2025 Transfer Portal

I'm guessing one of the most stressful parts of portal recruiting for coaching staffs is deciding when to pull the trigger on offers. It's safe to say every staff would love to have the luxury of waiting until every single one of the transferring players are announced at once and then there's no need to wait and see who else might come along.

But the nature of this portal beast means that players are entering the portal at different times, so decisions about who and when to offer come with the pressure of knowing that waiting even one day could result in some other staff swooping in and scarfing up a terrific player. And the players themselves may be anxious to sign with someone else quickly out of fear that if they wait too long to choose (if they have multiple suitors) they could end up not having a spot anywhere if staffs fill empty roster spots quickly.

I'm 100% glad I'm not a coach these days. The recruiting/portal/NIL stuff would drive me much nuttier than I already am even without any of that to worry about.
I agree, the stress has got to be tremendous.

Both Weimar and Williams have good/excellent records and would seem to be a help to just about any program, but would bringing on two post players, albeit good ones, with only one year to play be in the best interest of the program? I realize that the new era of portal recruiting has dramatically changed the landscape, but bringing in two seniors would leave the Lay Vols with only one post player, Latham, and put the staff in the same position they are in right now of having to depend on one, or more, post players who would fit the system entering the portal at the end of next season. This, perhaps forced, reliance on the portal was, if I recall correctly, a major complaint from the majority of the participants on this board about Coach Harper's recruiting.

Given the almost universal belief that it takes post players longer to develop, it would seem to me that Coach Caldwell and her staff would be better served by bringing in one of the two mentioned above (if possible) and looking for a suitable prospect with 2-3 years of eligibility, if one is available. Of course, this is just my opinion and, since neither Coach Caldwell or any member of her staff asks for my opinion, I'll just have to wait and see what their next recruiting move is.

Your right just need to bring on one senior cause we already have one on roster. Latham has two season we need to find someone to pair with her for two seasons. Then hope 2026 and 2026 portal offers some additional post players.

Hey, I have been wildly impressed by the way our staff has recruited so far. We all have. But even so I have to shake my head every time I read posts here that say "we should get them," as if it's practically a done deal just because we need them. There are probably 50 programs going after each player, folks!

What was the overall 3 pt percentage made for the team this year? Need a big that can run the floor and a next level 3 pt shooter.
Three of the freshmen shot over 40 percent for their high school careers. Another was at our average 32 percent and the other pushing 30 percent so we have three freshmen coming in that can shoot it. We also have three going out. We could use one for sure don't know exactly what were going to do with the scholarships we have left. Really need to clear up a couple based on the new rules.

I’ll take the one that averaged 19/10 in the B10 over the BU player, that’s just me.
As basketball players go, Caitlin Weimar is smooth, smart, and agile - all good qualities, especially for painters. And yet, there are as many questions as answers.

Williams is tough and proven; and, as you pointed out, from a League most approximating the SEC.

There's also the injury/recovery element with Weimar. I would gladly take either player, with the rugged, Big 10 veteran nod going to Williams. For now.
But, if verifiably, fully recuperated, I'd be pleased to get Weimar; with Wes Moore being a primary intangible. He signed her; he knows what he's doing. Which inevitably begs the question - why is she leaving State? And so it goes.

It's easy for me to say, but, patience is, indeed, a virtue. Put out feelers, of course, while eying the emerging Portal. And, especially, the outgoing lane. The market breaks open, in all shapes and sizes after next weekend.

Cheers.
