2025 Transfer Portal

Coach Caldwell and recruiters Lazo/Tubner are going to focus on the area which CKC stated following the early HS signing period which is a few spots (2) left to fill in terms of defense, size, and rebounding.
That was before the recent dominance of the High School commits leading their schools to State Titles with a chance to compete for a National Title. It was also prior to the emergence of Kaniya Boyd who was outstanding in SEC play.
CKC isn’t wasting a scholarship on a shooting specialist if they lack versatility or ball dominant offensive players who bring no value on the defensive end.
Those players won’t be able to get on the court in positions where elite talent is coming in at this rate from the HS class.
Prawl and Civil as the roster projects with the returnees would be the Lady Vols 4th or 5th best defensive players along with Cooper, Latham, and Boyd. The Pauldo twins will also be in the mix as the LVs top defensive stoppers.
For as good as Kaiya Wynn looked as a junior defensively she wasn’t as highly skilled as Prawl and Civil out of HS on the defensive end. The quickness, intangibles, and length at 6’0 Civil and 6’2 Prawl that each player possesses will make the LVs a defensive nightmare on the perimeter.
I’ve seen a few players enter the portal that will likely have mutual interest in Tennessee. CKC will be very selective.
Civil is an energizer bunny. That player impresses me so much can't wait for her to get here. Her team got off to a slow start in that title game were down 24 to 9 after the first quarter ended up winning by 10. I really think she will make an immediate impact as a freshman.

Wynn was a highly considered recruit coming out of high school. She is an athletic driver who needed an outside shot. She was improving her outside game when she got hurt. I'm confident she will be able to return with the defensive tenacity showed in the past and with the time off, improved set and foul shooting.

Jaida Civil and Deniya Prawl are McDonald’s All-Americans.. that point I stated as far as giving Wynn credit for her defensive play as a junior on the collegiate level in the SEC, yet not having the combination of ability as Prawl or Civil coming out of HS stands. Civil and Prawl have the intangibles that Talaysia Cooper has showcased in year 1 at Tennessee to become elite defensive players.
Again, this isn’t a knock on Wynn.

This is true. The entire incoming freshmen class is good enough to contribute in a role next season. Atleast four of the LV commits are on the same level as any SEC freshman guard this season which includes McGill and Blakes.
I’m starting to think much of the LV fanbase doesn’t watch high school basketball/recruits. If they did on social media they wouldn’t be acting as if every player that enters the portal is a need for Coach Caldwell.
I think this is the only WBB fanbase that is suddenly vocal against playing freshman early and framing it as relying on too many freshmen in the current landscape of WBB. That is not only contradicting but has been used against Tennessee in the past in recruiting elite high school talent.
Tennessee likely signs two portal players to add depth in the post. I do think CKC and Coach Tubner who I believe coaches post players will target size, rebounding, and defense. The wildcard of the portal class might be an extra post player pushing the class to three. They are graduating Ayodele, Puckett, and Hollingshead.

No, but it seems a bit of a stretch at this point in time. Wynn is a proven commodity while neither Jaida or Deniya have played as a Lady Vol. Not a knock on them, and we all hope they develop into super-elite collegiate players, but it's a bit early to read the "bones" and make that comparison. Now, having said that.....you could be right. Who the heck knows? Everything is just wishing at this point and there is Nothing wrong with that.

But, with regards to the portal, everyone is right. Agility and size inside will be valued. Cardio requirements must be achievable. Kim can't go wrong unless she brings in someone who is bad for team chemistry. Size, ball handling, shooting and defensive ability

It’s case closed for me. As a fanbase, we just have to get on board with the game has evolved. CKC knows this as well as any coach in my opinion.
This is how college coaches have won recruiting battle after battle in the last 5-8 years prior to Coach Caldwell era at Tennessee in high school recruiting where she has landed a #1/#2 recruiting class.
This is not 2015 or even 2020. Every single incoming HS player that is put in the right situation is capable of playing as a freshman.
This is really the only fanbase I’ve seen that is suddenly hesitant or slightly against top prospects coming in as freshman and being given a clear path to playing early in their career. It’s such a coincidence that now with a highly ranked and decorated incoming freshmen class this is the narrative.
I don’t care if it’s a senior or freshman let the best players play night in and night out.

We may just have two scholarships open unless someone leaves. Seems to be an NCAA new rule that says Edie would have to be given a scholarship to remain at Tennessee. We'll have to see what develops with that situation. We would be at 13 if that happened. You can only have 15 total players in 2025.

We can’t waste a scholarship on Edie I’m sorry, nice girl but she’s not a Power 5 player

Thats cool. Not saying you can't believe what you want. Just offering another take.

I’m not against your take, it’s something I’m aware of and may or may not occur in this case.
If I’m CKC though it’ll be due to the players showing me they aren’t quite there yet and not because of putting a cap on them. Teams like Michigan, Louisville, Texas, South Carolina, USC, etc. recruit players and play them early in their career.
Coach Caldwell isn’t bringing in players to just sit them for a year or two if they show the ability to play right away.
She has said this in her interviews.

Who said that????? That would be a remark made by someone who didn't see them play this season. Everyone plays if all goes well. Who starts can vary but the top 10 players will have game time 3 minutes into the contest. Kim has a system that showcases talent.

I agree but I am not coaching the team. We have to see how it develops. We’re going in at 13 right now so just two players at the moment is all we can get. We'll need someone to transfer out to have more.
12 and 1 walk on.

5-freshman
1-sophomore Boyd
2-jrs Latham, Coop
Zee,Ruby,Wynn, Avery

Walk on which doesn’t count against scholarship is Edie.

The problem over the last 5-8 years is the lack of freshmen deserving playing time. It’s been a minute since we had a Boyd show up and demand that time through her game. 😉

There is a lawsuit that might close to being settled soon.
Possibly of 15 players per team .
No exceptions for walk-ons 15 max.
And also after the final settlement/ ruling.
Teams university might have 20 million dollars to pay their athletes whichever sport they want to spend it on.
Could be last transfer portal where college can't spend their own money on recruiting.
So next year's transfer portal and after next season high school recruiting class .
They Will be money and competition for player's with more university's have money to spend on players.
There a Google search on paying players pick your choice of articles

We've had mostly freshmen that needed time to adjust. This new class just don't seem to need a lot of adjustment. If I were just guessing there are 200 minutes available and I would say this freshman class would get 80 and up to 100 of those minutes.

Right and two things can be true. I watched Kaniya Boyd film when she committed and said there’s no way she should’ve dropped from #25 to the 30s. Also, the fact is there haven’t been any freshmen on the LV roster to even consider outside of Boyd due to HS recruiting.
This offseason and the freshmen class development will be instrumental in laying a foundation for the next 4 years.

According to the new rule Edie would have to count next season if she is still here. 15 is all you can have. Everyone counts starting in 2025.
I know that but just because she’s on the team now doesn’t mean the staff is going to give her a scholarship. She will not be on the team if that rule takes place next year, you can’t give a scholarship to a non P5 player. That’s why are rosters haven’t been competitive in the past bc Kellie gave players who aren’t Power5 players a scholarship.

I think you may be right, but I don't know that right now. I expect they will ask her to transfer may ask another player or two. We'll know after the portal cause if we sign more than two we have to make room for them so someone would be leaving. If we sign only two were fine for next season.

We have 14 rostered scholarships now, 13 players available due to Wynn’s injury. Kellie generally had a roster of 13 or 14. Using that 15th slot for Edie won’t hairlip the Pope.

You lost a little traction within the forum here lately having had your latest attempt to stir 💩 thread deleted. How about offering opinions as opposed to drawing lines in the sand. Although it may not always seem like it, we really try to get along around here. 🤙🏼

You must be watching a different player than me. The Wynn that I have seen struggles to even hit the rim on her jump shot (and on multiple occasions has missed the entire backboard when shooting). I like her and she seems to have a great attitude, but I do not want her playing in KCK system where everyone is encouraged to shoot 3s. Keep in mind, CKC talked about wanting Cooper to shoot MORE 3s in a couple of her press conferences this year which is quite literally the most terrifying thought in existence.
