Neither of these compare to CBM. Don’t remember either of those guys being ejected for cheap shots, going for the back of players heads, etc. Come on now. You don’t wanna go this route. CBM is horrible.Go to other boards a couple of years ago. This is what they said about Uros constantly re being a dirty player (and he was, he was just our dirty player). Then there was the Grant Williams years where he was accused of being a dirty flopper by rivals. Nature of the beast.
I like this team, but I think the Vols need at least another shooter. But hot damn, I will be ecstatic if Rod Clark locks down Adams. Personally, I want Adams more than any portal player, balla.Coming from those who see the glass half empty. Everyone doing SEC videos see the Vols as easily a top 6 sec team & top 20 overall team in the country right now.
These are from people who don't even root for the Vols, unbiased takes. They Love our Frontcourt as well! But galf the board here from Vol fans seems to think our frontcourt is less than impressive right now.
Half this board doesn't seem to see any value in these 4 guys either - Boswell, Troy, Amari & DeWayne. A lot of people on here just sad & miserable talking about the guys our coaches wanted as Vols.
Nothing is good enough for you.
Those same people who see us as SEC contenders & a top 20 team right now also believe that once we land a shooting guard & maybe another bench piece that could put us in national championship contender talks, not just SEC contenders.
The biggest enemy of Vols Athletics is not the media or other SEC fanbases - it's The Vol Fanbase.
Right now we are in a fight for Darius Adams that Coach Rod Clark confirmed with me. Let's hope we can get his commitment over MSU. But I'm sure if we get another McDonald's all American half of the board would say he's not experienced, he's skinny, he won't be able to handle the SEC, we need to do better, we need this or that (not what we got) lol it's childish. This story is called:
"The Cup Is NOT Half Empty"
Amen-t
but you were someone who watched Kentucky high school basketball. this kid can score to it just depends does he have that want to work ethic of a Lofton.I actually did expect a lot from Lofton. I lived in Kentucky then and saw him play a lot. I obviously had no idea he would do what he did here, but I expected him to be a solid player for us in time.
Barnes: "We will be very selective. It will be a cultural fit as well as what we look for. ... We look at the needs that we need, but it has to be right or we won’t move.”

Darius Adams, Tennessee basketball to meet as Vols recruit five-star guard | Source
Darius Adams is a five-star guard in the 2025 class. The Tennessee basketball target recently decommitted from UConn.www.oakridger.com
I'm going to agree with most all of what you said. I've said much of the same myself. If you saw him play in high school, you know he can play. I've watched him. And you're right, what was asked of him this year did him no favors. You look at him and you don't see an ounce of athleticism at first glance, but then you ask him to play and guard the most athletic position on the floor for most teams.Travis Perry is an excellent player and is an ELITE shooter. He was not put in a good situation this year at Kentucky. First, the jump from HS ball to College is difficult for a non-athlete. You have to adjust your game rather than rely on innate athleticism. So I knew the learning curve would be high for Perry. Second, he had to play out of position as a PG due to injuries on UK's roster. We literally were down our top 4 PG options at one point in the season. Perry is not a PG. What he is good at is shooting. We do know that from HS, from AAU, and from practice. He is an ELITE shooter. But that's on spot-up 3 pointers. Think catch and shoot.
Third, his defense is not good right now as he had to guard the other team's quickest player usually, but it didn't help being on a Kentucky team that was not very athletic themselves other than Oweh. When you have athletic teammates, who are good on defense, and have rim protection, getting beat off the dribble suddenly doesn't look so bad on you. Your flaws get "covered up" by your teammates. Kentucky did not have a good defensive scheme until late in the year, weren't very athletic, and didn't have a lot of rim protection. Therefore, each time someone (like Perry) got beat off the dribble, his man had a lay-up or dunk, making it very clearer to the observer that you aren't very good on defense. Finally, Perry's role and minutes were inconsistent. As a shooter, you need to play to get into a routine and rhythm. Injuries may force him to play 20 MPG at the point one game, and then come off the bench as a SG the next 3 games but only play 3 MPG. It's hard to come in cold and knock down shots.
In summary, Perry is a very good player. He needs to continue to work on strength and quickness but will get there. He is an elite catch and shoot guy, plays hard, is a great teammate, and extremely professional. He needs to be paired with a shot creating PG (driver) and a shot creator wing. This will suck the defense in and allow him to knock down 3s. It would also help if they have an athletic rim protector to cover up any flaws on the defensive side. He isn't a perfect player but, put in the right situation, could be in the top 5-10% percentile for catch and shoot 3s, which isn't anything to snub your nose at.
Ole Miss is getting on Perry early and scheduling a visit/zoom. They wanted him out of HS too. I think he would do very well playing for Chris Beard.
Look no further than the two teams that played in the final. You don’t want three decent shooters on the ROSTER; you want 4 decent shooters on the FLOOR at ALL times.
In the NBA it’s 5 nowadays—you just don’t play a player that can’t shoot. Like at all.
In college you can get away with 4 still. If you only have 3 (ON THE FLOOR, not the bench) you are going to get slogged down into mud ball.
Now, if you want to be an OK top 25 team that doesn’t contend, then 2-3 shooters/scorers plus a great defense will be fine. But if you want to contend for a FF, you are going to want 4 shooters on the floor most of the time.
Gillespie and Ament can shoot. Okpara cannot.
We are basically assuming RB can find a way to get some shooting or post scoring out of the PF position. That’s 3 shooters on the floor.
To contend we need the last starter to be a shooting/scoring threat.
Doesn’t mean Lanier’s level or Knecht’s or Lofton’s. Gainey’s level or zz’s would also be fine, as long as it’s a threat to shoot or score.
We should have edge over Tide for Davis. He would have a better shot for major minutes. Alabama is likely getting Coward a big transfer at same position. No way they get both with the NIL we and others have. I can’t see CBM going to Alabama either. Auburn would likely let him out easier for here than there. Davis, CBM, and Gainey with 5th year and we are top 5 good.
