2025 Transfer Portal Thread

What’s the story with Abram at Georgia Tech? Was he injured or just couldn’t crack the regular rotation on a pisspoor squad?
One story is that he only played 10 min per game there, didn’t see the floor a ton, so of course his numbers dipped. At Ole Miss and La Tech, he was an impressive stat line.

All that plus being the best screener. Solid defender. The scout on him was threat from deep, which opened up offense when we set him up high. Etc..

The Igor hate is silly. But some people always need someone to blame.
Keyboard coaches tend to do that

Hope you’re enjoying Amaree Abram day. The staff is excited to add Abram as he is a seasoned veteran who has 3 previous stops. Abram entered the portal after Kermit Davis left Ole Miss. At GT, there were some coaching issues that caused a lot of dysfunction between staff and players, and it hurt the stock of Abram along with battling injury. This past season, Abram played well at LaTech, and the staff plans to have Abram play solid minutes at the 2 and shift to the 1 when Gillespie needs a breather. Abram is a tough defender who should provide the Vols with a little less of Mashack and a lot more offensive value.

Remember…the staff aren’t expecting Abram to be their Chaz replacement. Ament and Gillespie will be the scorers, so Abram just needs to provide 25 or so minutes with solid defense and hit some shots when given a gift of spacing from Ament and JG.

As far as Massamba, expect news within the week. International details are being hammered out, but this one is essentially done. Massamba is poised to receive a rating once he commits to Vols. While some watch his highlights and instantly see 5 star status, this will not be the case. Some experts see CM to be a high 3 star with a low 4 star possibility. The staff is in love with the upside. It’s been mentioned that he can come in and instantly give you a Cam Carr like role as a high flying athletic freak with maybe 10 minutes off the bench with the definite possibility for more depending on how he looks.

Lol at high 3 star to low 4 star… It takes about 2 minutes of watching this guys film to see he’s a better prospect than that.

You never know with transfers from what I have seen since NIL started. They are either hits or bust. We have been very lucky with most our transfers as hits except a couple without mentioning names.

Florida hit it big-time with their transfers but maybe it's just me but I think Alijah Martin was the biggest hit Florida had. I was more impressed with him then even Walter Clayton Jr. Every game I saw Florida play, it was Alijah Martin defense and toughness that pulled Florida away in most games. I'm no NBA scout by any means, but to me Alijah Martin has first round talent and is a dog!

That's high praise, but Clayton is the straw that stirred that drink, imo. I liked Abeerdean, too.

You been able to get anything on the “last spot”?

Seems like they’ll keep it open for now, but that could change daily based on someone wanting to hop in, deciding to give Okpara that spot, etc.
Okpara will get a spot, I just presume it won’t happen until the roster limit is stretched to 15…would really like to see them add one more scorer/shooter, but I know that’s not super likely.

I think Abram will help relieve pressure for the French Mamba & Evans. Ament is getting paid big so he’s gonna be expected to be one of our main offensive weapons.

Would be nice to land another shooter like bTo mentioned, but if we end up getting Gainey that would fix that need.
