2025 Transfer Portal Thread

Without any more additions, and obviously it's too easy of a comparison to make, but I see parallels between us and FL last year:

1-3 spot: Gillespie Abram Ament Massamba Boswell/Evans
4/5 are bucket getters just like Clayton / Richard / Martin / Aberdeen, with Boswell/Evans and Klavzar kind of a wash. Moreover, you have two actually elite players in Gillespie and Ament who can take over games.

4-5 spot: Carey Phillips Estrella Okpara
All forces with enough of a game / enough expected development to get post buckets and stretch the floor a bit (outside of Okpara I suppose). Just like Condon / Haugh / Handlogten / Chinyelu.

Team is deep, honestly I wouldn't even want to add another body just to upset the dynamic unless it was a project. Really high on Vols next year!
The team is always deep in the offseason to message board fans. By January we have an injury or two, maybe a defection, and we find out a couple if guys just aren't good enough. Then Barnes is trying to get to eight and struggling to get there. Happens every year. If you have a chance for another good player you add him.

I didn't realize Abram is listed as a PG in the portal until listening to the 247 pod about him. He gives us the backup PG we need as well
On3 lists him as a combo guard, which is probably what he’ll play at Tennessee. I envision him being a similar player to Gainey, who can take over PG duties in a pinch, but will mostly play the 2. Someone can correct me, if I’m wrong.

Looking at his stats (albeit without watching film) it looks like listing him as a PG or even CG must mean he can handle the ball well enough to initiate the offense. His stats do not tell the story of someone that can be a creator/facilitator. Court vision/passing/ability to get into the paint off the bounce must not be his strongest assets.

Funny enough, according to KenPom, Abram played primarily at the 3 for Tech this season and even occasionally as a very undersized 4 because their roster was just really small overall. They routinely went 6-1, 6-3, 6-4 (Abram), 6-5, and 6-11 as their five.

He’s played pretty much every position in his college career, each stop has required him to contribute in different ways, he’s a versatile piece. He’s best suited to be an off ball scorer, but again can provide other things if needed, a nice Swiss Army knife to have on your roster.
Maybe a JJJ type guy which would be nice and was lacking this past year.

They have ament as a pf as well but he's a sf. Those recruiting sites get it wrong all of the time. Our backup point guard minutes are covered easily by other players this guy Amaree will primarily be a shooting guard for us at 6'4" w good size and improved defense over the years. A glue guy I'm thinking sorta like a 5th year vescovi role from 2 years ago

I hope not, cause that guy was nearly unplayable

5th year Santi had a higher OBPM and DBPM (by far in the second case) than Abram has had in any season in his career. Abram has not yet managed a positive OBPM in his career
An interesting component of BPM is that it helps to play on a good team with good players fwiw

Is that true? Then disregard what I said, my understanding was the strength of your team is accounted for. Too many advanced statistics to keep track of
BPM is box plus minus, so if your team sucks that’s going to reflect a bit in that stat…with that said he ranked 5th on LT in BPM, so wouldn’t suggest off that he’s their best player by any means, but then again Felix was worst BPM on our team so who knows how much it means. I think being a 4th or 5th option here will benefit him tremendously from an efficiency standpoint, that would be the hope at least.

Looking at stats, his turnover rate is a little high but then part of that is he played backup PG at OM as a freshman. You’d like to have seen that drop as he went down a level and it didn’t necessarily do that.

His 2-point percentage is terrible. That’s the big red flag.

The two green flags are his steal rate and his 3-point shot, which is 37%…not all sec or anything but fine for what we need.
