2025/26 Transfer Portal Thread

After reading the Bob_Vols post how many already knew which posters were going to post “ I’ll believe it when I see it “? Just like clockwork the usuals show up to spin it negatively..
The opposite is also true. I knew who would blindly believe, despite the many broken promises over the years. It's like I said the other day, it's not all doom and gloom, but it's also not all sunshine and rainbows. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

Do you see Josh Schell on the roster next season?

Schell I understand. Questionable portal pickup to begin with. What's the deal with House and Loftin? Just not good? Not happy with changes? I think both were 4*s, which doesn't mean much, I guess. I just don't recall hearing anything about them being unhappy or getting into trouble.

Looking at the roster, I think we've made some horrible player evals, but I also think there's a degree of coaching malpractice where certain position coaches are not developing their units the way they should. Of course, when you're best buds with the HC, just how accountable are you being held?

I wonder if UT will shift apparent recruiting/portal philosophy at all?

It has appeared like UT is taking a full 22 (or more) in high school recruiting each year and then adding portal additions in positions of needed depth/impact.

Do you think UT will begin to take more or less out of one or the other?

Or, do they need to simply identify talent better/earlier and get their recruitment, NIL, or whatever across the finish line better?

I know it appears like coach Chop is likely gone and while his recruiting ability seemed good, did his on the field coaching prove not that good?

I think there are a lot of questions going into the off-season and next season. I hope Heupel can get them answered. I want him to succeed at the highest level here.
I honestly think there are two types of recruits we should go after in HS:

1. Guys who can make an instant impact the second they step on campus.

2. Developmental guys who don't have a ton of interest from good teams in the P4, who are brought in explicitly to fill out the roster.

Anyone in between feels just like a waste of money and effort. Example that comes to mind atm is Deuce Knight at Auburn. Yes you've got the coaching change but what a waste of money.

On our end, Faizon or George won't be here this time next year... Depending on the transfer situation George may not make it that long. Waste of money.

Just can't afford to keep pouring development effort and NIL into kids that never contribute IMO.

This is assuming they don't do anything to fix the sport. As a fan, I'm not in love with the idea of just trotting out a full team of one year rentals every year as I'm sure no one is. I just think it makes the most competitive and financial sense at the moment.

I've mentioned the QB thing several times. Nico, GMac, and now Brandon. If you're going to pay these guys millions to come here, they need to be ready in Year 2 to play and lead this team. You can't pay that much and then be okay hoping he finally is ready in Year 3. Heupel is supposed to be a QB guru, yet I don't feel like we're seeing that on the field.
