2025/26 Transfer Portal Thread

AP: “Another name I could see, Emmanuel Oyebadeja”

DT 6’7, 315. Jacksonville St

The 6-foot-7, 320-pounder totaled 41 tackles, 4.5 sacks and 2 FF in his first year of college football in 2025.

I’d say this is more of a depth piece, but I’d take the chance. He’s a large individual.IMG_3627.jpeg

Since I’m one of those who posted that, and you’re essentially calling me out, I’ll defend myself. How many already knew as soon as the season was over we’d see the “we’re going big in the portal” posters? It happens, as you said, just like clockwork. Bob is a trusted source more than others, so I’ll choose to believe him. BUT I’ve been scorned way more than I’ve been blessed when it comes to listening to said insiders regarding portal recruiting. So we shall see.

One of us will be wrong and my hope is it’s me, but history says otherwise.

There's also a huge difference this year..The roster goes to 105, the last few years we didn't have the availability. Even last year, we tried to go big at QB..Hoover,Becht and Altmyer.. Nobody was interested because of our WR( lack of productive players returning). I really don't recall many insider's the last few years saying we go big, the numbers were never there to do that. Also, if what BV said is true, Heupel is highly motivated this year. An ass beating from Vandy will do that and finishing the year 0-2. Not to mention we didn't beat 1 team with a winning record. Him firing Banks and bringing in Knowles tells me this off season will be different. And having 20 extra spots helps too.

I definitely believe there are signs and facts pointing towards a better offseason. I’ll just choose to believe it when I see it. I’m hoping there’s some behind the scenes booster pledging a crapload of money to go big.

Supposedly there is. Hopefully if the single booster offering to pay for an elite QB is true. I really think the money has been there, we just never had the room to add 10-12 like we do now. I could be wrong, but this one definitely feels different. If it doesn't happen this year, I don't think it ever will and I'll never believe again. 😬😬

After reading the Bob_Vols post how many already knew which posters were going to post “ I’ll believe it when I see it “? Just like clockwork the usuals show up to spin it negatively..
Well, we’ve been bitten in the ass before by comments like that getting our hopes up. Such as “insiders” saying our defense had the chance to be just as good as last year, us landing Maguia, Heupel being motivated this year, us landing a big name at qb (which joey ended up fine dont get me wrong, but everyone made it seem like we would snag a big time bug 12 qb)

I wonder if UT will shift apparent recruiting/portal philosophy at all?

It has appeared like UT is taking a full 22 (or more) in high school recruiting each year and then adding portal additions in positions of needed depth/impact.

Do you think UT will begin to take more or less out of one or the other?

Or, do they need to simply identify talent better/earlier and get their recruitment, NIL, or whatever across the finish line better?

I know it appears like coach Chop is likely gone and while his recruiting ability seemed good, did his on the field coaching prove not that good?

I think there are a lot of questions going into the off-season and next season. I hope Heupel can get them answered. I want him to succeed at the highest level here.

In Heupel's defense, he tried to get an elite QB in the spring. Hoover,Becht and Altmyer all said no. The WR room scared them off. I didn't blame them, we had 2 unprovens, Brazzell with an injury history and some freshman. Maybe if they had known back then how good the WR's would play, maybe that changes things. But, if I was a big time QB, I wouldn't have transferred either based off what was known about the WR's. Should be easier to entice one this year.
