2025/26 Transfer Portal Thread

Nothing sounds like that at all.
Looking at guys like Sorsby or Hoover is the complete opposite of that.

Will we end up with top level QB from the portal? Who knows ?
It was more of a prediction based on opinion on my part. We have people saying we are going to spend big on a QB from the portal. I'll believe it when I see it. So I am totally with your last statement. No one knows, but we can all put our predictions out there. I don't think we end up with one of the top notch guys.

On QBs
Sorsby is their top target as Patrick said. It’s believed he would prefer to land in Knoxville but Tech may outbid us. I don’t think we will go north of $4million and that may be pushing it. I’ve heard $3.5 as well. After Sorsby they may take someone of lesser value. They have gauged interest of all the top qbs to see if anything will materialize. A lot of moving parts. Nothing will become clear until the portal actually opens and they can have direct contact.
I get what you are saying. Heupel gets paid a lot of money to make these decisions. All options are on the table. I believe we get a one year rental, and GMac and Faizon will stick it out. They really like GMac but he’s way too thin to hold up for a season. My prediction is Sorsby goes to Tech, we get a one year guy at a cheaper price in the $1-$2 range, and it’s a 3 QB Battle. Lots of possibilities. Really won’t have a good feel of it until January 2nd gets here and there is direct contact.

I know you have already been debunked.

But I just saw where you tagged me!

The "underthrown" deep balls are on purpose to increase the likelihood of them being completed. He likes to put a lot of air under them. He many times effortlessly threw the ball 50 to 60 plus when he wanted to. He could probably throw it about 70. He maybe has a stronger arm than Hendon. Hendon was excellent at hitting them in stride on the deep ball, but he also overthrew his fair share. Joey was tops in the country in deep ball completion % the last few years.

Like against ETSU when he rolled out to his left, and launched one on the run about 60 yards down the field, right over a guy in his face to Mike Matthews.

Please explain how THAT is below average arm strength?? So like every QB in D1 can do that? Saying Joey is below average is like saying he has the weakest arm in the FBS. So every FBS QB can make that throw?

We also heard all offseason about the things this staff was adding to our scheme and we did. We didn't even run crossing routes before this season. We ran plays out of the pistol for the first time and threw the ball over the middle a ton whereas we hardly ever did in 21-22. We also went tempo way more in 21-22 because our offense was simpler. Heup took far less risks with Hendon than he did with Joey.

Hendon just never put the ball in harms way, which is a plus and was better running the ball. However, when things went awry, he wasn't very good at getting to a 3rd read and making plays with his arm. Hendon also had a better run game.

I hate to diminish Hendons stats here but... go back and watch, he had so many WR's WIDE open running by themselves where the DB just wasn't looking, Hyatt just ran past them or ya just throw it up to Cedric and he makes a play. Most of our passes were low risk deep balls, comebacks and bubble screens back then.

Teams started to figure it out so we have had to slow down and add more wrinkles to our system.

I don't know how Joey does in 2022, I don't know how Hendon does in 2025, but I'd guess similarly.

The only thing I would add to your analysis is the overall impact of timing, specifically in the sense of SEC opponents' familiarity with Josh's system. With the Hooker of 2022, Coach Heupel had a quarterback with whom he could fully maximize the potential of our offense. His ability then to scheme wide receivers open, often to opponents' profound embarrassment, was something that I had never seen in 55 previous years of watching the Big Orange. By contrast, at the end of last year, Josh made the determination that opposing defensive coordinators had sufficiently adjusted to our system that a significant retooling of the scheme was in order. And Joey had very little time to master that before taking the field for the first time. Having him back for another year would be profoundly advantageous, but timing, specifically of the lawsuit's resolution, probably will not permit that luxury.

Ross had 17 tackles and 1.5 sacks.

We needed more from a 6’6 250 lb 5 star in his 2nd year
He was behind figure early draft pick Josephs and 3rd year former top 50 player in Herring. And you know that. Did you bump your head?

Your words:
That's a lot of young athletes, but with the right environment and Ross and Herring being pass rush monsters we should improve tremendously in pass defense.

My thing is, you’ve made it work with Hooker, Milton, and Joey. None of them were highly regarded in the portal.

Continue doing that and just load up the defense for Knowles for his first season.

Do NOT waste the time on Sorsby like we wasted our time on Nico.
I agree and it seems CJH gets more out of QB's with chips on their shoulders then the highly regarded 5* ..

Idk who they will spend it on. I do believe they have a lot more dollars to spend than most fans realize.

Last yr everyone could see they werent even trying to fill all the open holes the roster had and this yr its completely diff

Really has to be or next yr would likely be a big disaster.
I am fairly certain we were limited by roster numbers. We were in the playoffs, so some guys didn't portal out until after, and we had a huge class of early-enrollees come in. They liked their incoming freshmen. This was discussed and not sure why people ignore it.

This year, the number is going to 105, and we have guys already saying they are entering the portal and not playing in the bowl.

Anybody have a clue what our portal budget REALLY IS? Speculation on position spending without that is a bit nuts.
Apparently we saved lats year, and have some this year. Was my take away from 50/50 pod.

That said, if we dont #close, then we wont be closing. And up schitt's creek.

Bob_ Vols may be wrong but all the other issues we need fixed on defense should be top priority.. you could pay $4 million for a top QB but if defensive issues aren't fixed then its for not.

Edit: btw, who the heck is Bob_Vol?

Poster on 247. No one bats 100% but he certainly has inside info.

He certainly can empathize with the former, since he went that route, first attending Weber State, before suffering an ACL tear and transferring to Snow College, a JUCO in Utah.
