Well then, I might be playing the weekend with only 2 golfers. Hoge has been fairly dependable all season and forgot to show up in NC with his clubs. And Hovland is sucking pickled eggs. But my -7 on round 1 might be decent. It's a brutal course.

Currently the cut us at +3. I need Glover to pick up a stroke to make that score and be my3rd player. Cam Davis has little chance of being my 4th for the weekend.

I got Hovland and Hogue at +7 and +6 with 8 holes left on the round. Neither is showing they will pull off staying in. With this course, anyone keeping all 4 for the weekend is living quite right. I obviously didn't see Hovland choking so bad in a major. I didn't think he'd pull off a win, but I figured he was more than safe to de in top 15 and donate some good birdies. He only has 5 in 28 holes verse 9 single and double bogies. Hoge has only 2 birdies in 28 and 7 bogies and doubles.

There are 58 at +2 or better and 21 at +3. Scottie is one of the 21 at plus 3 and is in danger of missing the cut.

I also don't see any one golfer dominating this field this weekend. I foresee the leader board changing quite a bit day to day. Tiger held on at +4 yesterday. For nostalgia sake, hope he has a good day and stays in. He looked his better physically getting around yesterday than he has in a while. His short game and putting has suffered from his lack of regular tourney play. If his old self could have half way been present on the greens thursday, he'd have been in the red.

Yeah. He was seriously out of kilter yesterday. Missed a lot of fairways off the tee.

-3 was a great day yesterday. The 3 leaders at -4 and -5 were epic rounds. I have watched US Opens in the past years ago that the courses were set up so tough, -1 would take the day and the weekend winner was still in single digits. USGA likes it that way.

Scheffler finished at +5 and he’s going to miss the cut. Tied for 87th place.
Not so fast my friend. Projected cut moved to +5. Right now he's in. And the afternoon scoring is gonna be tougher. If anything by days end, cut line would go to +6, and I'd be back in with 3 golfers. But my other 2 are just now starting so a really bad day and I could be overcooked squash. If Sheff don't get his coodies worked out the gift won't do him any favors.

Oddly, Hovland gave me 6 of my 7 birdies on the day so far before possibly bowing out. Already equaled yesterdays total with 35 holes to improve.

Also 5 amateurs probably making the cut, and some big names bowing out.

Unless they’ve changed the criteria from top 60 plus ties, the cut line is currently +4. But with a lot of golf to be played.

There are 78 at +4 or better. 17 at +5. 17 at +6. Perhaps the projected cut at +5 means sayonara to those at +6 and the group at +4 and +5 are still in the mix. I can’t see 95 players making the cut if it’s top 60 plus ties.

PINEHURST, N.C. — A challenging course could mean a full weekend at Pinehurst No. 2 for the U.S. Open. The USGA’s cut line at the U.S. Open is top 60 players and ties through the first 36 holes. Through one round, 64 of the 156-player field would have made the cut.

But that number could inch even higher given tougher conditions Friday that should keep the field bunched. At the time of publication, the cutline would include 79 players.

I'm just going off the PGA site leaderboard. They always drop in a projected cut line based on where the current scoring is lining up. But it's not final.

On the live broadcast it is showing +4 though.

Hovland has the chipping game of a 12 handicapper. Picking him was not wise for this course. Reality though is that all us open picks are a dartboard selection for best results

Need 3 at +4 to lose a stroke (or 2 strokes for the +3s) to put another 20 players above the cut line at +5. Right now 62 are +4 and better. 8 at +4 are still on the course.
