2020 SEC QBs

He has two things to work on to make that leap.

1) Pocket presence. He often gets caught off guard by blind side blitzes.
2) Anticipating open receivers so that he can get the ball out quicker before defenders have time to make corrections and or go for the Int. Right now he waits until Receiver is open before throwing.
Note: this would also greatly reduce sacks, fumbles and injury potential.
Add passing accuracy and mobility/ability to make plays with his legs to get yardage, even first downs when necessary....he’s poor at both.

JG's problems are all mental.
Mental, emotional, and quite honestly, some physical. He’s got a strong, live arm, but he’s consistently inaccurate at every level throwing the ball. Throws the back shoulder fade pretty well but that’s about it. God bless him for getting through what he went through this year, although about all of it was of his own making. But we have to move on from him, he’s just not the top notch SEC QB we need. Don’t know if there’s one on the roster right now, but we know for sure that he, a 5th Yr senior, is not, so move on to the others to see what they can do.....and give em an honest shot at it, not what we saw last season.

Lol? That’s all you got 99? Come on man, this thread is so preposterous I felt beyond confident that you’d expend a considerable amount of energy refuting the ridiculous idea that
JG is anything more than the 12th or 13th best qb in the conference and nowhere near the stratosphere where the best QBs like Trask reside.

So mauer being a better scrambler makes him a better Qb?
He’s far better at everything than Guarantano, we saw it in the first half vs Georgia, his only real opportunity to show what he could do, even as a true freshman who’d been on campus all of 8 months. He has both a higher floor and far higher ceiling., but he’s gonna have to get serious and focused in the spring to thoroughly beat out JP’s pet project Guarantano....if someone doesn’t THOROUGHLY beat Guarantano and put him far in the rear view mirror, based on the incredibly long leash we saw Pruitt give him in 2019, we’ll, very regrettably, get Guarantano again in 2020.

It's a "re-set" year for SEC QB's. Had a good couple years w/ strong SEC QB's, new cream will rise, but as of now, no one's jumping off the page.
Correct. Unfortunately, we have JG, who sinks to the bottom.

Having a bad season (6 or 7 wins) with Bailey / Maurer getting majority of action is better than a bad season (6 or 7 wins) with JG getting majority of action and younger QB’s getting hardly any action.

Pruitt can absolutely not roll into 2021 with a raw starting QB

I didn’t want to get banned

in all honesty what have you seen from Maurer that leads you to believe we’ll be better with him next year over JG

Does "maybe Maurer or Hill will make a jump over the off-season" mean that I'm convinced he will? Hmm.

I am, however, soundly convinced that mediocrity and inconsistency is what the offense will be plagued with if JG is the starter all season.

Do we regret that JG saved our ass this year too? Makes no sense

Guys, let me just say that idk who our solution is at QB, but to say that JG has no talent is just plain wrong. He is raw, he has moments of great throws, he has moments of terrible throws, and he is inconsistent. You know why this is? It’s because he is killing himself in the game mentally. Every time he came in off the bench you all will have to agree that he played decent to pretty darn good. If he could have the same mentality when playing from the bench when he starts we would have a very good season next year. I had that same problem when I was a pitcher. I’d let the moment get to me in big games, and it would destroy me. Then I would go into a game feeling like I had nothing to lose, and I would do great. The key for him is to have confidence and to not let the moment get to him. He has a great arm, but he’s gotta learn how to use it in time. It’s either gonna be him or a true freshman, and he better be a very special player to start as a true freshman. If he’s not and Gaurantano can’t get it figured out then it’s going to be a struggle even with a great returning offensive line and defense.

Does any QB in the SEC scare you?
Yeah, any SEC quarterback currently wearing orange and white scares the HELL out of me anytime he does anything with the football other than hand it off!

And while I expect with the O-line the Vols will have next year, the QB will do a lot of handing off to Eric Gray, we're still going to have to throw the ball effectively to have any chance of beating OU, UF, Bama, or UGA. Quarterback play like we saw this season won't get the job done.

You can take the QB out of the mistakes but you can't take the mistakes out of the QB.

I fear for this offense if JG is still running it. He regresses every year. It's like he gets a case of amnesia after finals and has to learn everything all over again when the season starts.

Trask is overrated, Mond is definitely overrated, JG is inconsistent as hell, the best QB will probably be a new starter next year.

Let this sink in for a minute. The SEC in 2020 will be QB deprived. JG honestly will be considered top 2 in the league. Bo Nix is the only QB in the league in 2020 that might be ranked ahead of him. Tua and Fromm are off to the NFL.

This will be the 1st time in JG career to have the same OC for a 2nd year. Chaney did wonders for Crompton after he was left for dead. Just saying!

Thoughts VN?
I’m hearing Jamie Newman may be going to UGA. That would change things a bit.
