2020 SEC QBs

Better is better. Doesn’t have to be night and day difference. But JG at the moment is better and that’s the Qb who should be playing. I just really don’t think anybody can sit here and say what they saw from Maurer was better than him

I don't think anyone can sit here say that a QB who's career averages (Less than 200 passing yards per game / Less than 2 TD's per game all with mostly the same receivers and tight end groups) is a QB who should get a 4th straight year of starting. All while holding a 9-16 record as starter and having led offenses that have scored more than 24 points vs P5 schools just 4 times as a starter......

If mauer showed more I’d agree. If they played tomorrow though JG gives us the best chance to win. Bottom line

I’m not bashing him at all. Not shocked. But I’m just saying your praising him for 1 out of 3 throws good. Like JG doesn’t do that also

Which is fine. But at that point of the game, JG got benched to see if Maurer could do something. He did. We had 6 points before he came in and then had 9 points after his drive. The following two drives JG sacked himself on 3rd down and threw a one yard checkdown on 3rd and 9....... There was literally zero reason to bring Maurer off the field after his first drive led to points. Sure those throws weren't great, but at the end of the day, we still got points.

Let this sink in for a minute. The SEC in 2020 will be QB deprived. JG honestly will be considered top 2 in the league. Bo Nix is the only QB in the league in 2020 that might be ranked ahead of him. Tua and Fromm are off to the NFL.

This will be the 1st time in JG career to have the same OC for a 2nd year. Chaney did wonders for Crompton after he was left for dead. Just saying!

Thoughts VN?
No honestly he won’t

No one but JG ever got a chance to settle down and get in a rhythm for us at QB.
So it’s hard to compare what they done.
We had 1 we no is not that good but had all the experience, the other 2 ??

So mauer being a better scrambler makes him a better Qb?

Some quick thoughts:

1) JG will not use his legs to escape pressure.
2) JJ and Marquez bailed JG out on some questionable throws.
3) JG has not mastered the art of using touch on his throws, especially on the flats/screens - everything is a Nuke Laloosh fast ball...
4) JG will likely start on 9/5 against Charlotte with BM seeing action.
5) 9/5 QB Performance will determine 9/12's QB starter at Owen.
6) OC JC had best find a way to utilize the TE and passes to the RB more often as we have a young/inexperienced group of WR's.
7) Predicting a 7 Win Reg Season (Charlotte/Furman/Troy/Vandy/Mizzou/@Arky as Likely W's, Fla./Bama/@Okla/@UGa as Likely L's with UK & @ USCe as tossups.
8) QB play will be the key determinant of the W-L record.
9) JG did win some games for us.
10) Orange & White Game might provide clues to the staff's thinking...

Sat. 3:30pm Appt...down periscope...

I figure there will be several newbies at QB in the SEC next year that will be rated above JG.

IN MY OPINION.....

if JG is starter all year, UT is 8-4

if JG is first off the bench, UT is 10-2

JG is not the guy...….I don't see where ever actually won the job but was appointed.......Vols have improved but they still they need some players
clearly QB is the weakest position on team...……….

I think rather than appointed, he was used by default. No other QB was ready. So I think the thought process was - he is the lesser of evils, - as to say "doing nothing is better than making a big mistake. BUT as it turned out.........

JG is exactly what we need next year ....... coming off the bench. Lots of experience, plays well when less pressure is put on him, and willing to be conservative. If neither BM, JS, HB, or the grad transfer starts next year, we have a problem.

JG is a 7/8 win QB at best until proven otherwise. That’s my thought.

We are no better than 8-4 with JG as starting QB. If he and HB are equal, play HB. BM or Shrout hit the portal imo.

I will say this. Had JG came out threw for 300+ yards and a few TD's and we beat Indiana in a blowout, I could see no issue with Pruitt saying he is the starter going into the offseason and next season.

However with the current result, I don't see how Pruitt goes into the offseason with anyone as the favorite.

This is his 3rd year coming up. We finished 8-5 in year 2 when it should have been 10-3 most likely. Year 3 has to be 8-4 at minimum. Not sure how he plays a graduating player who has always been lackluster in his career and not give the younger guys who have 2-3 years of playing left.

Worst thing for Pruitt's job is to go 7-5/6-6 with JG and we roll into 2021 with Bailey or even Maurer not having significant playing time in 2020......

Pruitt is smart enough to realize this too
