2020 Primaries

I'd bet you money that kids that attend trade schools and learn how to be electricians, plumbers and HVAC techs are going to make more money than the average college graduate does.

That's fine, do it like TN does. Let's fund both.

If you are more suited towards that kind of job, good for you. If you prefer a liberal arts degree, good for you too. We need both in society.

So all of you universally blame the cost of college on the government?

So why should students now be punished for that?

And if the government is paying for tuition, they aren't going to allow ridiculous increases.

Private loans are highway robbery in terms of their borrowing rates.

So that clearly isn't the solution.

If the .gov was not in the student loan business and your only alternative was private lenders we wouldn't see people racking up $100k plus in debt on social worker degrees. No bank would lend that money.

One of the biggest reasons tuition has skyrocketed is because the schools know they will get their money. Plus with the number of kids going to college now every university you see is in a building boom, updating facilities, expanding curriculum and services trying to attract students.

Same here. Both of my kids wanted to go out of state and all I told them was they had to make up the difference. They stayed in state.
Unless kids are looking for the full "college university experience" I'd recommend going the community college route...UT took all of my credits except American History which I was fine with because I love history and got an A in Western Civ....It helped me because I got more face time with the profs and our chem lab was as good or better than alot of 4 year schools

My oldest started college the year the lottery scholarship began. Want to guess how much tuition, fees and dorm went up from the year before the lottery? the exact amount of the lottery scholarship.

I don't know if you saw my earlier post, but I asked zaggy if he had any idea why college tuition has gone up over twice as fast as medical expenses, and 4 times the consumer price index in 40 years. He didn't respond. I think you have the answer.

My hope is that the vote from people who vote almost exclusively on what is best for their pocketbook splits about 50 - 50.
Let the people with a deeper view make the decision.

We home school so I don't really pay attention...do HS's not offer welding, auto body,. health occupations, and other hands on skills now?
I have no children or grandchildren, so I have no idea what they offer. From what the plumber and electrician charged on our new house build, they aren't starving.

It's starting to come back but for the last 15-20 years for the most part no.

Back in my hometown the county built a state of the art "industrial arts" facility at our HS in 84 or so. It had commercial grade wood working, welding and automotive facilities. They also offered cosmetology which lead to being licensed at graduation. When they built the new HS about 10 years ago they demolished the industrial arts facility and stopped offering any of those courses.

You honestly think pocketbook voters are going to split 50/50 for a socialist revolution in America ?

If you had a moderate D candidate that may happen since Trump is so disliked.

But Bernie? That's going way beyond "what's best for the pockebook."

There is a center left candidate. A damn good one too..
Bernie will lose in a landslide if he is the nominee.

50-50....that’s about the figure of who actually pays taxes versus those that don’t.
