These kids will start hitting their shots when they get under a coach who understands that the only bad shot is a "BAD SHOT!...otherwise it is just a miss or hit.

They have to have permission to fail,
to succeed

Truer words never spoken.

Looking at our returning roster, it's even more obvious why we need Darby. Only Davis shoots 3s and greater than 25%. I hope Horston can shoot.

It's even worse when you look at the conference only stats. They shot under 30% as a team. Davis was tops at 33%, Zaay at 23%, Rae at 10%, and no other returning player even hit one. Teams are going to be packing it in against Tennessee big-time this year as they have no one (on paper) on the roster who can shoot from the perimeter...

I have tried ignore, but you still see the person's name as a poster and what I see I can't truly ignore. Especially if I know that that person is spewing negativity at every post....No, someone like that I see as a foe, not a friend and when someone is a butthole just to be a butthole, they need to be wiped

It's always amusing how the people who have me "on ignore" are always the ones who respond to me the most. Thanks for being loyal followers. #livingrentfree

I don't have you on ignore pal....But I know every one of your posts will be something negative about either a player, a coach, or the LV program....It's just your nature.

You're like the slave that use to stand in the Roman chariot, behind the Roman conquering hero, as they returned to Rome, whispering in their ear, "all glory is fleeting."

Harper and staff’s task is to study film to determine why those %ages are that low. Were their attempts ill-advised? desperation? poor mechanics? Or were they attempted within the concept and structure of the offense? Probably not the latter based on the poor spacing, non-productive screening action, and disorganization that I saw so prevalent under the former coach.

Judging Harper on how she incorporated the 3-pt shot at Missouri St. is comparatively unsound. The personnel on her team resembled what she prepared to face game in and game out in her conference. Playing in the SEC and playing a national OOC schedule demands the implementation of all dimensions on offense. Perhaps the addition of Darby fills a need that Harper has identified (and most of us on here think is a glaring need). And, theoretically, if she is an effective 3-pt specialist, conceivably she should be even more effective from the short corner and the elbow and the FT line and etc. We need a (some?) weapon(s) from distance to start keeping defenses honest and create some space for our inside players and for more purposeful penetration.

Not necessarily. South Carolina has been at or near the top of the SEC for years even winning a National Championship and I wouldn't consider them a great perimeter shooting team. Baylor won the title last year and the three-pointer was almost an afterthought in their offense, hitting maybe two or three a game...

And those two teams have had excess in other areas—namely depth, size, and athleticism—that allowed them to compensate and overcome (if not overwhelm) their opponents.

Exactly. More than one way to skin a cat and I'm not sure any of us really know what Kellie's offensive identity will be here. But I'm not reading too much into the fact that her first official recruit happens to be a three point shooter...

Really good article posted by River67 above (link in orange font embedded at end of the quoted post).

Sure sounds as though Tess, Mom, and Dad are wholly realistic about the hard work ahead and the need to maximize strengths and improve weaknesses. Their attitudes about teams needing players filling various roles who will embrace those roles are savvy and down to earth.

Didn't know that Tess was a top 70 recruit in sophomore year before missing summer ball and subsequently falling off raters' radar.

Love this gal already!

I was going to say the same thing! People were wondering why we didn’t recruit a top 100 kid while she may not be ranked that high she was and then suffered an injury and couldn’t play summer ball and we all know how that affects your rankings (ask Vic Schafer who got great kids but they may not have played summer ball or on good teams)

How DARE you and River67 spoil the perverse enjoyment of those who are bashing Coach Harper for signing an "unranked" recruit. Unabashed "bashing joy" requires that we completely ignore mitigating factors like injuries at a crucial time when national rankings are formed or Darby's great work ethic and attitude or the insane idea that an astute coach may recognize attributes and potential in an athlete that are not reflected in national rankings? I mean who wants a coach that actually scouts and assesses players and thinks about team chemistry, complementary skills, and other factors that go into building a championship team?

Have you never eaten at Krispy Kreme Holes (what a rip off, I paid for a hole in the middle of this strupid glazed circle thing! ) or drunk from the always half empty cup?; next you will probably tell, us that you did not always receive lumps of coal for Christmas presents?

Well she is no longer unranked number 144 overall and a four star that is quite a jump from not even having your name on the list at all.

We (including me ) put toooo much importance on these recruiting services !
Three years ago I started following HH girls basketball. Jaz, Balogun , Treasure, and Kamilla Treasure has been listed pretty much all the time when Kamilla was not listed until late last year and now a top 5 player.... Treasure reciently has been listed #10, #12, #28, and now #36 ! How can a recruit (Kamilla) go from non existent to a top five recruit? Piath Gabriel was not listed by Hoopgurlz and #88 by Prospect Nation. But since UConn offered she has moved up to #44 ! Amazing 😉
Norte Dame got a verbal from Alasia Hayes , who is not listed by Prospect Nation but Hoopgurlz has her at #44. I don’t think Muffin cares about her rankings ! JMO
Tess was at #70 and usually the rankings will go up as the players mature and their stats improve. But we now know how her injuries affected her numbers ! Let’s see if she moves any after her senior year and let’s see if she can play in the SEC.? Time will tell 🤔

You just proved his point.

Actually I’m not. His point has been to expressly denigrate the hiring of Harper and her recruiting efforts. I fully support the recruitment of Darby whether she is used as a 3-pt specialist or as an integral piece of the offense.

PRG _ We (including me ) put toooo much importance on these recruiting services !

obviously, it is as important to make the better AAU teams in the Summer if a player is too be ranked, by comparison to other ranked players, plus the helpful AAU coaches. Not a perfect science . I remember reading an article of a HS girl from Texas who stayed home to work on her skills during the summer and it was newsworthy because it was not the right way.

Similarly, we have boarders who have concluded our recruit 16-17 will be a three point specialist when she graduates from UT (five years from now). PRG we put too much importance of knowing (as one who has appreciated your passion for many years)

Thanks .... I guess ?
I enjoy the recruiting process and watching the recruits as they develop. I’ll give you another head scratcher.... Rhyne Howard #38 ranked out of high school. She was just voted first team all SEC (as a Sophomore) .

Watching her in the Tennessee High School tournament. She was more interested in getting her teammates involved than getting more points for herself ! I guarantee you Mitchell will drive that right out of her and make her be more selfish. Which will make her a stronger and/or better player ! JMO

Even more of a head scratcher she was the national freshman of the year not just in the conference but the country! Shows that you don’t have to be a top 10 kid in a recruiting service to do damage!
