2019 NFL Offseason Thread

HAHAHAHA (still great money but didn't work out like he thought I'm sure)

The final offer from the Steelers was 5 years at $70 million for an average of $14 million a year. Not only did he lose a year of pay, he signed a shorter contract for less money per season.

He got more guaranteed money on a shorter contract. I would say it worked out pretty well.
and in the process lost 14M last year. Don't hate the guy as anything thats a negative for the steelers is ok with me, but he cut off his nose to spite his face IMO.

There is no way he was seeing all that money. He took a year off, which is good for longevity, and he'll likely get paid for at least 3 of these 4 years (maybe all 4), then get 1 more (more modest) contract at age 30 or 31.

The thing that worked in Bell's favor is running backs don't have years, they have damage. He can miss a year and it's not like he missed a year of earnings, he just pushed his earnings back a year.

I dont see it that way, but thats just my opinion. You are going off the assumption that he would suffer a major injury this past season and that he would have missed out on this contract. I dont make that assumption

I'm not assuming that he would get hurt but I am factoring the risk. You are assuming he would have got this same contract if he played in 2018. I don't make that assumption. He might've been injured, he might've underperformed, teams would have been wary of the extra mileage, etc.

Why would he not of gotten the same contract? What makes you say the Jets would have offered him less years and less money had he played under the franchise tag last year.............which was higher than any single year earnings for any RB in the league. If he was skipping out on something like a tag of 8M or whatever the first one was, then I would agree it was a smart move, but 14.5M is not in his pocket because he sat.

Thanks for whatever response you make, but this will be my final post on the subject lol. I have learned a long time ago that you will argue anything for a week and I aint got the time nor energy to go back and forth with you :)

I just gave you three reasons why. No need to go back and forth for a week, just read my response and you'll likely get it the first time.

There is way too much risk to assume he would get this same contract. The Steelers were likely to ride him to death on a one year contract, among other risks.

Apparently Bell also has incentives that would allow him to max the contract out at $61m. So say he sees half those incentives and 3 years of the contract, he's probably getting about $47m or so? Is it frontloaded or backloaded?
