2019 MLB Draft Thread

Anyone else going or is this it? We will have 60 players on campus this fall if this is all that is leaving.

Anyone else going or is this it? We will have 60 players on campus this fall if this is all that is leaving.

And that’s why I can’t fully support this program anymore. While it may be the best way to win and likely the only way to win in Knoxville it’s just plain wrong

Added this to initial post. Will bold when sign.

It’s incredibly good. Might be one of the best in the country. Turino and Spence are expected to come in and start. Fastest way to rebuild a program is going this route. Think about where we would have been without Soularie and Martinez.
What about Ortega and the Catcher from GA? Do you see them stepping in? Really hoping we addressed the huge lack of hitting/power we had in our batting order last year. Amazing we made the regional finals with only 2 guys hitting barely over .300.

Curious to see if Ammons and Charleston get drafted late, if so they are gone no matter where they are picked IMO

He’s going to do it as long as he’s the coach. I’ve followed Arkansas recruiting for years and it’s the same there

I ask this out of complete ignorance as I'm not a huge follower of college baseball, but can you elaborate on this? I'm guessing it's some form of oversigning. Is that different than the way most SEC teams are doing it?

yes its oversigning. Most if not all top-level programs do it, some oversign more than others. As long as players know the ramifications I'm fine with it.

Oversigning is a must in college baseball. It’s a necessary evil mainly because of the draft. The issue is the degree in which a coach is willing to go over the 35 number. It’s been said here We are going to be close to 60 next fall. Imo that is way across the line of necessity and the reason why I am No longer a supporter of volunteer baseball.

I can tell you that a number of players that have fallen victim to this so far under TV don’t feel like he was upfront with them about the process they weren’t entering into. So tifwiw

Just curious, are you a supporter of any college baseball program since it appears everyone is doing it this way? I think that the NCAA has caused this type of problem as much as the draft. The piss poor number of schollys at public institutions is a farce! JHMO as always!

Yes my choices of programs to pull
For is dwindling. I am becoming a huge Duke fan right now because I know their school simply won’t admit that many baseball players to oversign in such ways. They do however have the same funny $ that Vandy has.

Just to be clear I understand having 37-40 guys on a fall roster. You have to do that because of the draft. But when the number 60 is thrown out there that’s way past the line. I mean does it really prove ones Eval skills if they can miss 50% of the time? Imo it’s easy to be a great recruiter that way

Duke has 15 2019 commits, Tennessee has 20, from Perfect Game. Big difference given this is Vitello's 2nd class that wasn't patchwork given being a new hire, while this is Pollard's 5th.

Pg doesn’t include jc commits does it?

Also I am willing to bet TV will continue to be waaaay over the number regardless how long he’s here. I mean he already had 17 guys in the 2020 class and 11 for 2021. It ain’t showing down

That perfect game list doesn’t include all the JUCOs. Duke won’t have any of those additions.

That's what happens when you're recruiting guys that can be drafted out of high school. LSU has 17 for 2019, Florida has 18.

As I’ve said. Oversigning is fine imo at a certain level but you’d have to agree that there are different levels of it. Tenn is signing more hs guys than those programs and way more Juco guys. Thus the degree of oversigning is over the norm

Those numbers are straight from Perfect Game, and not much different from Tennessee. So all 3 programs are recruiting about the same number of HS guys. Since it was brought up that PG doesn't account JC guys, that's irrelevant to the numbers I presented.

But we're back to LSU, Florida, and Duke having coaches with several full recruiting cycles, and full rosters of their players, where Vitello isn't there yet.
