2018 Midterm Election Thread

I think it will be a mix of both. As bad as I hate to agree with ole Looth. He's correct in some respects when he says both parties are moving left. I think the Dems will pick up a few more Bernies this go around.

I think the overall question would be if the DNC wants to play that numbers game of how many seats they have regardless of how the person votes? You take a Senator like Joe Manchin or Heidi Heitkamp who votes down the center on a lot of the issues. Sure, they have a few liberal policies they hold onto, but one can't count them into a voting block based on the letter behind their name. They vote what their constituents want (read that as "voting to keep myself in a job") rather than down strict party lines.

No, I don't think the GOP is "moving to the left" in a lot of senses. Take the GLBT issues for example. Most conservatives just frankly don't care overall. I don't take that as a "slide to the left" but rather an oversimplified method of "not important" regardless of how the DNC likes to blow them up. Yes, there are a few outstanding vocal opponents to the matter, but I'd dare say the majority of conservatives just flatly regard it as an issue not even worth talking about and could care less if two dudes get married. They do care about the government getting involved in business decisions and forcing the private sector to do something they may morally object to. Which in turn is categorized and reported as "hates the GLBT crowd!" Not even realizing it wasn't an issue until after the government got involved.

luther will of course object and troll about the above point, but I guess I'll miss that. Others will chime in with Democrat talking points and scream about it. But that's to be expected since they can't think for themselves. Anyway...

My overall point is whether the national level DNC and their own sprint to socialism is prepared to endorse candidates that just might not end up voting along the party lines. And furthermore, whether they will push such candidates in the general election knowing they can't be counted on to vote "in the Party's interests."

Seems like a slam dunk in this case however. Failed drug test to be announced soon, yet he and family members presciently dump all their stock prior to the results of the test being announced? Yeah, he dindunuffinwrong. He won't go to federal #meintheass prison though, so he has that going for him.

Enter Chelsea Clinton running for the soon-to-be vacant seat.
Sounds awfully similar to stuff they tried to nail Steve Cohen on, and the best they could do was a civil penalty against his firm. Nothing on him personally. I bet folks around him go down but not himself.

So, which segment of the DNC wins this Noember? The "hyper speed move to the left" portion that loves the darlings like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez that's a mouthbreathing idiot and deserves to be in Congress as much as my dog does?

Or the moderate side which promotes candidates like MJ Hegar that don't have a lot of solid stances on the issues, but have a compelling backstory that motivates across the aisle?

One ends up with a Bernie Sanders level of socialistic entitlement that's failed so many times in history. The other possibly ends up with a voting record like Joe Manchin, but has that (D) behind their name?

Which one wins the soul of the Democratic party?
Trick question. They have no soul.

Your dog. Is he 25 in dog years yet?

Just Keep Telling Yourself Vote Fraud Does Not Exist: The OH-12 Edition

Back in June, the US Supreme Court upheld a ballot integrity law passed by the state of Ohio. The law simply allowed voting officials to purge the voting rolls of people who had moved or couldn’t be proven to exist. The “vote fraud doesn’t exist” crowd was in an uproar. As it turns out, Ohio had a damned good reason for doing this.

Yesterday, I posted on the still-tentative win by Republican Troy Balderson in the special election in OH-12. Balderson squeaked out a 0.9 percentage point win. The non-profit watchdog group Government Accountability Institute did a review of Ohio’s voter lists before the election. OH-12 has 170 voters who are older than 116. Of that 170, 124 were born in 1800. Seventy-two of the 170 showed up to vote in 2016.

Yep, they do those purges here in TN too.. Miss a midterm and they boot ya, which I think is lame, but whatever. As long as they provide a provisional ballot, they can scrutinize it all they want, afterwards.

To turn away anyone eligible is an assault on democracy, IMO. My county doesn't even have the decency to send the purge notice via certified mail.

Voter fraud is all around us. I’m reminded of thsure 2004 Gubernatorial election for Washington.

Anyway, this is good to see.

Just require voter ID. Registered Voters. Done.

Sure require/provide an I.D. and keep the provisional option. System errors are no excuse to not be able to vote.

Former DEMOCRAT congressional candidate charged with Murder of campaign staffer she lived with, SC cops say

A former Georgia congressional candidate has been charged with murder in the shooting death of her former campaign treasurer, according to local officials.

Kellie Lynn Collins, 30, was arrested on Wednesday by the McDuffie County Sheriff's Office in the death of 41-year-old Curt Jason Cain in Aiken.

Collins had dropped out of the 2018 Democratic race for the 10th Congressional district seat for personal reasons.

lol, this would instantly be epic. Love him or hate him, Ben Shapiro is a sharp cookie.

Ben Shapiro offers Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez $10,000 to debate her democratic socialist beliefs

Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro challenged democratic socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to a debate, and is willing to donate $10,000 to her campaign if she accepts.

Shapiro tweeted a video on Wednesday in which he mocked Democratic National Committee chairperson Tom Perez for calling Ocasio-Cortez, a New York congressional candidate, the “future of the Democratic Party,” before issuing his challenge.

“Miss Ocasio-Cortez, I’m really excited that you’ve been elevated to that position and I would love to have a real conversation with you about the issues. You’ve noted that you think Republicans are afraid to debate you or talk to you or discuss the issues with you,” Shapiro said.

“Not only am I eager to discuss the issues with you, I’m willing to offer $10,000 to your campaign, today, for you to come on our Sunday special,” he continued. “We can have an hour long conversation about all the topics under the sun, really probe your belief system.”

Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign spokesperson did not immediately respond when asked if Shapiro’s challenge would be accepted.

James Woods is right, she has to be a Republican Trojan horse, no other plausible explanation. No one individual can be this stupid.....“Medicare-for-all is cheaper than the current system” because we aren’t incorporating the costs of all the funeral expenses of those who die because they can’t afford access to health care. That is part of the cost of our system.”
