No. I know many Democrats that are definitely not atheists. It was more directed at many of our resident liberals who have made it known that they are atheists and bash Christians. I could be mistaken but I thought Luther proclaimed that he is an atheist. If I'm wrong I apologize.I was actually more curious about your assertion that most democrats were atheist. We need to get through that gem first.
I see it as a mix of your 2. Mueller has something on someone fairly high up, but not high enough up, or directly connected to Trump (family) to really cause a stir at this point. Mueller has had some indictments on the low hanging fruit, including a decade+ old case and another where he wasn't ready to show up to court over. So yeah he has gotten some people but its hardly been the flawless victory parroted.I think that’s all well stated and rational.
I think I do understand the timing. There are two likely scenarios:
1. Mueller has nothing to report.
2. Mueller has something on Trump or someone close to him, but believes that republican legislators will protect Trump.
Given that there have already been a number of indictments and convictions and given how badly Trump obviously wants this investigation to be shut down, my money would be on #2.
In fact, I think it’s pretty obvious from Trump’s behavior that somebody he wants to protect was involved and he fears they have criminal liability. If we don’t see a report shortly after the new Congress is sworn in, I’ll start to agree that it seems unlikely that Mueller has anything.
Also, I think Democrats have only backed themselves into a corner with people who don’t look at Trump’s efforts to interfere as wrongdoing, or those who don’t already view his behavior as making him unfit to be president.
Frankly, I think there are a lot of us who do believe that, to some degree or another. The question will be whether the Democrats spend the next two years shrieking like banshees and roll out Elizabeth Warren as the “first Native American woman presidential candidate” and alienate centrists (like me) into voting for somebody else.
I think it’s pretty clear what my expectations are in that regard.
I suppose something crazy could happen, like what was the John McCain arm of the Republican Party splits off and occupies the middle, but I don’t think there are enough votes there to make that viable.
So I think I can guess. But a bigger question I have is why is this a federal matter? State elected official by state voters. Why would the feds even have jurisdiction before the state’s voting process and state constitution is tested first?Even better than that.... The lawsuit is filed in Federal court in the Middle District of Georgia.
Guess whose sister happens to be a federal judge on that circuit....
House Democrats steamrolled Republicans in an array of districts last week, from those drawn by independent commissions or courts, to seats crafted specifically by Republicans with the intention of keeping them in the GOP column.
The overriding factor: a Republican president who political mapmakers could not have foreseen at the beginning of the decade. Trump altered the two parties’ coalitions in ways that specifically undermined conventional wisdom about the House map, bringing more rural voters into the GOP tent while driving away college-educated voters.
Ah, that’s embarrassing.
