That's a little crazy, but I'm not against raising taxes on top level earners.

I think you've found your state! You should relocate to Maryland. We need people to replace those who have left (assuming you are a net economic producer).

For highest penetration satisfaction, I'd suggest (in order) Montgomery County (if the state is California West, this particular county is the San Francisco of the state), city of Baltimore, or Anne Arundel County.

I can't say I'm totally against anything here at first glance.
He's your man then. Even Hillary is against prosecuting soldiers who were following orders years ago. Of course, 90% of Democrat politicians on the national stage are probably for all that stuff. So, if it's not O'Malley, you would be happy with most any of them.

We don't call him Owe'Malley for nothing. He raised taxes at every opportunity. Taxes, Tolls, and Fees on individuals. Taxes on families earning over $150k, millionaires tax. Corporate taxes on businesses. Companies that had successfully done business for years in Maryland made tracks out of the state as did individuals.

O'Malley was the best thing that ever happened to Virginia.

We have Republican governors here in GA that like to do that as well. They love to shift them around to try and hide what they do....or make it where they say they technically didn't raise taxes. Perdue even loved saying fees were not taxes. Even Grover Norquist and his anti-tax org backed off the attacks on that logic.

I can't say I'm totally for that either. There's a gray area.

Concerning the "Rain Tax,"---it only affects 10/24 Maryland jurisdictions and concerns the amount of stormwater runoffs which contribute to the pollution of Chesapeke Bay.

This was done in order to adhere to the federal Clean Water Act and the EPA.

The revenue is used to build drainage systems to ameliorate the pollution of the Chesapeke, and is charged according to the amount of water-impervious surface area.

It really is just a way to provide funding to ease the pollution caused by those properties from those properties, themselves.

I won't argue that. In fact, I agree with you. And in all likelihood, I'd oppose a lot of those tolls and fees.

In the case of O'Malley, though, he is a serial offender. So bad that Maryland sent him packing...that is saying something in a state whose politics is dictated by Montgomery County and Baltimore.

Thanks, JoeKyle. I had no idea. I feel a lot better about it now.

Yeah, a lot of my friends up there have said he's the best thing to happen to the Maryland GOP. Ehrlich seemed to tank the party and cement it being blue. O'Malley appears to have redeemed Ehrlich's reputation.

Maryland is pretty solid blue, and I wouldn't be surprised if Hogan is the last GOP governor we see in decades. He's a one termer. That's my prediction.

Montgomery County and Baltimore are two juggernauts that are royal blue, and they carry the state. O'Malley losing the seat should be a wake up call to the Dems.

Obviously, DCVol, I am not from Maryland, so I don't have firsthand knowledge of things in your state. I usually defer on such things.

But, I simply wanted to interject to our fellow readers, that the "Rain Tax," is not a tax on rain for the whole state, but meant to battle pollution of the Chesapeke caused by runoff in those areas which contribute to that pollution. I don't think you were being fair and even-handed in your portrayal of the issue.

I'm not trying to argue with you, just merely shed more light on the other side of the coin.

Tell me about Montgomery Co. I lived in Alexandria years back and will probably move back up to the DC area this year. I've heard a lot about the area but the more perspectives the better. Positives? Negatives? Income tax rates look to be the same in MD or VA.

I succinctly pointed out how it was assessed. I don't think it was fair that they chose to mandate the tax on only the 10 largest counties in the state.

And when has a tax not been sold with a noble mission statement? The real grind with most people in the 10 affected counties is that taxes have been consistently on the rise, and the state has not been good stewards of the dollars they have collected. O'Malley treats the citizens of Maryland like money trees.

The other side of the issue is that O'Malley needed to find more dollars, and he didn't have the desire or courage to reign in spending under his own administration. Why are Maryland's taxes so disproportionate to the rest of the region? They have the luxury of deriving tax dollars from Fed employment, which remains pretty steady even in the down times.

The state is in a fiscal mess. Maybe I'll return and attend one of the tree planing outreach programs that some of those rain tax dollars were used for. People grow tired of seeing their hard earned money go to waste on other people's political projects.

Maybe you look at other people's labor as something to be used for the collective good. I see my labor as part of my life...I'm no anarchist by any stretch, but when it comes to confiscating some of my labor, I think the reason needs to be sound and the use of that money needs to be conservative.

I suppose it depends on what you are looking for. Where will you be working? Aside from my own governance issues, Maryland is a great state. Virginia has tons to offer, too. Do you want good night life? Do you have a family to raise (Montgomery County, MD schools are top notch)? Do you want a short commute?

Company based on Capitol Hill so the commute will be Metro if I am not working from home. I have a handful of kids so schools will be the main thing. If I am in the country my life revolves around my kids so school and extracurricular activities/sports will be my main thing.

Wait a second...

Are you planning a coup here too? Your work is taking you to Capital Hill?

Sound the alarm!

In seriousness, I hear the area around Andrews AFB is supposed to be nice.

I can neither confirm nor deny anything you just said. Just getting closer to the HQ. I spend too much time in a plane as it is. Flying from GA to DC can be eliminated. More time freed up to plot and scheme.

I guess a forged birth certificate proves he was born in Hawaii.
Ironic that Loretta Fuddy died in a plane crash after this BC was officially released, huh?

“It was Barack Obama who said for 16 years, along with his publisher that he was ‘Kenyan born,’” said Mr. Gallups, referring to the promotional materials for Mr. Obama’s book by his literary agency Dystel & Goderich prior to his presidential election that referred to him as having been “born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia.” Mr. Obama’s bio was changed on the agency’s website in April, 2007, stating he was born in Hawaii. When Breitbart News broke this story, Miriam Goderich issued a press release stating that “a fact-checking error” occurred while she worked as an agency assistant. In other words, for sixteen years, the “error” had gone undetected.

You must know Ted Cruz a lot better than his old law professor Alan Dershowitz does. He apparently doesn't agree that Cruz is not "reasonable, sane, or intellectual." The following are direct quotes from Cruz's former law professor Alan Dershowitz....look them up.

Cruz was "an outstanding student in my class. Without a doubt, he is one of the smartest students I've ever had. I've had great students , but he has to be at the top of anyone's short list, in terms of raw brain power." Speaking of Cruz and Elizabeth Warren ( Dem Senator Mass.) Dershowitz adds ...."Their election raised the IQ of the Senate. The 2 of them have to be among the smartest Senators now."

Dershowitz goes on to say that Cruz "was a terrific student, always very active in class, presenting a libertarian point of view. He doesn't strike me as a social conservative, more of a libertarian." He goes on to say that being a social conservative at Harvard was looked down on and that Cruz may have kept it quiet if he was a social conservative.

More quotes from Dershowitz.....Cruz "had brilliant insights, and he was clearly among the top students, as revealed by his class responses. Cruz's views were always thoughtful, and his responses were interesting. I obviously disagreed with him, and we had good arguments in class. I would challenge him and he would always come up with good responses. His career has not surprised me . I thought he would go on to accomplish important things."

So, there is a point of view from someone who knows him, although he disagrees with Cruz's views. I stated earlier in this thread that I thought that Cruz was extremely intelligent. I watched 2 of his Texas Senate debates on CSpan, and came away impressed. He is more "reasonable, sane, and intellectual" than most any politician out there. You are welcome to disagree with his stand on various issues, but inferring that every other candidate will look "reasonable, sane, and intellectual" compared to Cruz shows your lack of objectivity. Either that, or you are unreasonable, insane, and stupid.

I'll see your law professor opinion and two Texas Cspan diatribes and raise you one Green Eggs and Ham recital from the congressional floor.

Like I said, any gop candidate standing next to him will look moderate, sane and intellectual by comparison.

I'd bet Cruz would publicize his college transcripts before Obama would.....oh sh!t, wait.

He did? I haven't seen them! Oh sh!t, wait, who cares?

You won't find rational people whining about Cruz's college transcripts. He graduated from law school, passed the bar. Yay. All I really need to know about that.

Obama graduated from law school, passed the bar. Yay. All you need to know about that.

All the rest is red meat for the simpletons to chew on.
