Socials issues are dead issues in 2016.. It's all about jobs and defeating terroris, but the Dems will bring up abortation and gay rights as a trap

No. Cruz has a huge ego. This is all about him. This gets him more camera time and perhaps a few book deals down the road. He may have an OK showing in IA but going to the religious right, he will drop in NH. Cruz will probably aim for March 1 when TX has its primary. This should feed the ego for a run in another cycle. Anyone hanging on by a string at that point will be aiming for a cabinet position and/or a book deal...or a FNC show.

You seem to know much about the man. His intentions for voting, his motivation for running, the fact his church is the most conservative.

Nothing that anyone else bothering to research the guy could not come up with on their own. The info's there. The only thing outside what is commonly known is that his filibuster act was not entirely based on principles. He had a PR firm doing focus group polling for him on different audiences around the country. He actually said he would not do it. He changed his mind when he saw polling showed most average people cared less but his base seemed to be for it. Once he saw the negatives were not that high he decided to change and go for the filibuster.

Precisely what every politician does.

Your research showed this is all about his ego? Really? Was that an admission in his diary?

The most conservative church is dubious too. That is a relative judgment based on subjective criteria.

Then don't comment. I made an observation based on what is out there. As far as what every politician does, I never said it wasn't. For the guy pretending to be the 'anti-politician' it puts a damper in his whole argument. Listen to the guy talk. Read his speeches. See his body of work. Determine whatever you want.

As far as his church, be subjective all you want. Go and sit in for a few sermons. Meet the pastor. Tell me what you think. Debate me if you think differently. SBC churches, especially the larger ones in major cities, are pretty conservative - primarily on the social issue line.

What are your thoughts on this quote?

That’s what evolution is all about…if man is the highest thing, then man gets to decide whatever he wants to do and then there is no longer anything called ‘sin’. There is not anything wrong, there is not anything right…here’s what happens: if you believe in evolution, you must also believe that Auschwitz and Hitler’s Germany is equal to mad cow’s disease. Because there’s no difference in cattle and a person besides opposable thumbs and reason. They’re all living creatures, so the slaughtering of cattle and the slaughtering of Jewish folks in Auschwitz must be declared equal.

Debate me if you think differently.

Not my cup of tea. You bring nothing unique to the table. I don't care enough to be engaged.

You strike me as informed, intelligent, and generally good natured. I suspect Cruz will hang himself as primaries proceed.

GGGGGGGRAMPS up in this hizzy! Welcome back old timer.

I think that it's a brilliant move to insert Cruz into the race - think about it, any GOP candidate at this point will seem sane, reasonable and intellectual by direct comparison.
You must know Ted Cruz a lot better than his old law professor Alan Dershowitz does. He apparently doesn't agree that Cruz is not "reasonable, sane, or intellectual." The following are direct quotes from Cruz's former law professor Alan Dershowitz....look them up.

Cruz was "an outstanding student in my class. Without a doubt, he is one of the smartest students I've ever had. I've had great students , but he has to be at the top of anyone's short list, in terms of raw brain power." Speaking of Cruz and Elizabeth Warren ( Dem Senator Mass.) Dershowitz adds ...."Their election raised the IQ of the Senate. The 2 of them have to be among the smartest Senators now."

Dershowitz goes on to say that Cruz "was a terrific student, always very active in class, presenting a libertarian point of view. He doesn't strike me as a social conservative, more of a libertarian." He goes on to say that being a social conservative at Harvard was looked down on and that Cruz may have kept it quiet if he was a social conservative.

More quotes from Dershowitz.....Cruz "had brilliant insights, and he was clearly among the top students, as revealed by his class responses. Cruz's views were always thoughtful, and his responses were interesting. I obviously disagreed with him, and we had good arguments in class. I would challenge him and he would always come up with good responses. His career has not surprised me . I thought he would go on to accomplish important things."

So, there is a point of view from someone who knows him, although he disagrees with Cruz's views. I stated earlier in this thread that I thought that Cruz was extremely intelligent. I watched 2 of his Texas Senate debates on CSpan, and came away impressed. He is more "reasonable, sane, and intellectual" than most any politician out there. You are welcome to disagree with his stand on various issues, but inferring that every other candidate will look "reasonable, sane, and intellectual" compared to Cruz shows your lack of objectivity. Either that, or you are unreasonable, insane, and stupid.

So...Martin O'Malley 2016!

Am I the only person on here that hopes this guy is the Dem nominee? There really is no other appealing candidate on the Democratic side who doesn't have loads of baggage or blatant flaws.

O'Malley isn't flashy, but he takes a workman-like approach to his job and seems to actually care about the people. He has executive experience as Governor of Maryland and Mayor of Baltimore.

I'm certainly not saying the man is perfect, but he's far more qualified than Hillary.

I don't see any currently-discussed Republican as electable outside of Bush or Walker. But, I think a potential Dark Horse for the GOP is John Kasich, who I could tolerate far better than the other candidates.

O'Malley is my favorite, but it'll take Hillary pulling out of the election for him to even think about the nomination.

You mean the economy a democrat saved after a republican ruined it? You might not want 2016 to be economy dependant.

LOL...O'Malley emptied part of the state. Yours truly included. One of the worst things...granted, in a long line of bad things, that happened to Annapolis.

O'Malley very well could be VP nominee. He is probably the stability HRC needs to the ticket. Just depends if he wants to get the dirt associated with Clinton on him. He doesn't rock the boat and does not try to set off the Clintons like Obama did in '08.

Explain, please. :hi:

We don't call him Owe'Malley for nothing. He raised taxes at every opportunity. Taxes, Tolls, and Fees on individuals. Taxes on families earning over $150k, millionaires tax. Corporate taxes on businesses. Companies that had successfully done business for years in Maryland made tracks out of the state as did individuals.

O'Malley was the best thing that ever happened to Virginia.

What has O'Malley done in the real world? Do we really need another career politician with a law degree?

I'm not sure that's a safe assumption with O'Malley. MD is now the California West.

I didn't mention previously that Owe'Malley actually implemented a Rain Tax in Maryland. That's correct....you are taxed based on the amount of impervious surface you have on your property. They estimate this using satellite imagery.

O'Malley is a typical left wing Democrat from one of the most liberal states. If you want more of the last 6 years, go for it.

O'Malley signed the gay marriage bill into law, favors taxpayer funded abortions, favors taxpayer education funding for certain children of illegal immigrants , abolished the death penalty law for all future offenders in Maryland, commuted the death sentences of the remaining 4 people on death row in Maryland on his last day in office, however he came out favoring prosecution of any U.S. soldier who was accused of torture at Gitmo or Abu Graib after the fact,(whether or not they were following orders) raised taxes 14% in Maryland, signed SB 281 Gun Bill which requires the following: ban on so called "assault weapons," ban on magazines holding more than 10 rounds, requires fingerprinting for gun buyers, requires 16 hours of training for new gun purchasers, 8 hours of training for gun license renewals, requires license to be renewed every 10 years, requires an I.D. to own a gun (but not to vote I'm sure), requires a $50 fee to own a gun.

He wants to take away 2nd amendment rights by making people pay and jump through hoops. Vote for another liberal and let's finish this country off.

I was wondering which Governor was going to out-tard the other. Cuomo or O'Malley.

That's a little crazy, but I'm not against raising taxes on top level earners.

I can't say I'm totally against anything here at first glance.
