2016 Election Thread Part Deux

I guess we see the results of the big pow wow to stop Trump. The establishment on both sides are pulling no punches sending these thugs to a rallies. Can you imagine if Trump sent thugs to break up a Clinton rally? The press is no longer doing investigative reporting. Trump is doing his part to help them with his rhetoric as well. Looks like we may need a real revolution.

"Authorities in North Carolina are considering whether to press charges against GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump after a protester was assaulted during one of his rallies in Fayetteville, according to WRAL.com.

The Cumberland County sheriff’s office, while conducting an investigation into the sucker-punch and alleged threats against the protester, went over the speech that Trump gave during the rally “with a fine-tooth comb,” WRAL reporter Gilbert Baez told MSNBC News.

“During their analysis of that speech, there were several instances where Trump made comments that incited the folks to continue the violent acts during that rally,” Baez said."

It's not Trump so much as the people at his rallies... He won't stop them
Because he knows he'll lose votes if he defends Muslims/protestors/whatever

Like Trump or not... His rallies are scary.

Scary how? Scary like having a militant youth reciting nazi-esque poems in his honor??

It's pretty telling that when someone criticizes Trump, people on here always pivot back to Obama or Clinton for some reason.

Yes, you're exactly right: I don't like Trump because I'm a PC bro. Just like I was a "liberal" before.

I'll make a deal with you: you prove to me why I shouldn't take seriously Trump's suggestions that he wants to restructure how the press functions and how violence should be used to shut down those that disagree with him, and I'll promise not to be such an unfair PC bro from now on.

A question on shutting down those who disagree. How do you balance free speech, and how do you balance someone's right to speak vs the "right" of someone to stop him from speaking? If you physically remove protesters whose purpose is to prevent free speech - particularly at a venue for which the rights have been purchased, is that violence or is it simply law enforcement? As far as I know the Constitution never specifically said that you could "peacefully" assemble anywhere or speak your mind anywhere; in fact, I'd bet most scholars would really admit both had more to do with government access and dissent toward policy. Why should a political candidate not be allowed the same right as a "performer" or a minister. But then the left in particular has made a mockery of "free speech" - question policy and they get all wrapped up in the flag, but they have no problem dragging it or burning it when they feel like a temper tantrum. So without assigning political bent to anyone; we should all have the right to criticize where political correctness has taken us - particularly when it is generally a one sided proposition used by the enlightened to force their opinion and prevent a dissenting view.

Prof gave a good answer on foreign policy - though I'm no fan of Kasich's either. On the other hand, Trump and Cruz sometimes say absolutely ridiculous things that seriously make me question their sanity with regards to foreign policy. I've come to the conclusion that there's nobody in the field that combines great ideas (in my opinion, of course) with good temperament.

I think Kasich has good economic ideas and valuable experience dealing with the budget and as an executive. He's probably the most moderate on social issues out of any of the GOP candidates other than Trump, who couldn't care less. Some people see him as a compromiser, but behind the scenes he apparently can be a bit of a stubborn mule and even a maverick at times - a mix like that is fine with me. Better than an uncompromising ideologue like Obama or Cruz. Most importantly, he seems sane.

So basically he wins by default, by being the least worst option. I don't think Rubio is ready and he just doesn't have a record of major success as a legislator. It doesn't really help that he backed away from the signature legislation that would have helped give him that sort of credibility. The immigration issue is tearing apart the party.

Really is refreshing to see a GOP candidate without the standard suit of archaic social armor.

His answer on gay marriage in the first debate was the thing that caught my attention. Pretty stark difference from one of the 2012 primary debates where a gay soldier was straight up booed by a few people in the audience and most of the candidates were still flopping around trying to justify their positions. The times are changing.

Based on his actions in Ohio (defunding PP and shifting the funding to other organizations), though, I can see Clinton or Sanders or whoever painting him as waging the "war on women".

Clinton knows she has it made - she knows she can say anything she wants without fear of interruption - when Bernie's not around. She happens to be on the side of thugs who prevent free speech by using the right of "free speech" to prevent those with whom they disagree from speaking freely.

You think they need a valid reason to throw that term around?

Of course they don't. But the deluge will come regardless.

Although I guess most of the people who would have that as their primary issue aren't voting Republican anyway.

Best bets for tomorrow? Honestly Rubio and Kasich have no path to the nomination and need to drop out. Can Bernie steal another state and make Hillary cough up a lung?

Filing charges would not go over well for that DA.
