2015 NBA Finals Thread

You mean this as an insult, but I can own it.

The reason I use stats as a crutch is I am aware of recent revelations about how the human mind works. There are people winning nobel prizes right now saying your eyes lie to you.

You can say your expertise is above what science is finding out about our brains, but saying it doesn't make it so.

Al Gore won a Nobel Prize for a slideshow on global warming.

The peace prize is often a joke. It's often political. One bad peace prize winner does nothing to de-legitimize the most prestigious economics award in the world.

The peace prize is the one Nobel awarded by a panel of Norwegians. Economics (and I think all others) is handled by Sweden. It's not even comparable.

So you are saying you eyes are lying to you about Kyrie and Delly. Glad that's out of the way.

No. I am saying our eyes lie to us about everything, but that doesn't make me or you wrong in this case. I might be right. You might be right. But using what we see and remember as the only evidence to support our cases is faulty.

F. Lee Bailey was famously on the Johnny Carson show to prove how badly our eyes lie to us. He hired an actor to randomly run on stage and pretend to shoot Carson and run away. After the incident, he asked witnesses to describe what happened, and then they played back the video. It was absurd how much of their testimony was wrong, and how much they entirely missed. Like the assailant was only wearing one shoe and it was a high heel, and IIRC, not one of the witnesses mentioned that.

You may think you see everything and remember everything (seems absurd) and you are probably better at it than most people...but even if you are, you still miss a lot. It's just science.

We've established before that I'm always right.

This may not work because you know the nature of the test, but people fail en masse when they don't know what is being tested.
