Yes it does.
Here is the deal on Memphis-Tennessee series. It hurts Memphis Nationally absolutely to not play Tennessee. It does not hurt Tennessee nationally not to play Memphis. I reiterate again that Memphis outside of Memphis is just not known that much nationally. Sure they're ranked and so is Marquette. Vanderbilt is more known nationally than Memphis. Alot of that is the SEC. The SEC is a powerful conference in Basketball like it or not Memphis. Not playing Tennessee in basketball is a big mistake by the backwards ass Ath. Dept in Memphis. Sure they'll keep playing basketball and do okay but nationally they will stay along the lines of Providence. Hell San Diego St. and Gonzaga are more known nationally than Memphis in basketball. I suppose the Grizzlies help a little. That is just the way it is.
Thanks for explaining yourself. Based on Memphis' ability the last 5-10 years to pull nationally top ranked recruits from outside Memphis, I'd have to disagree.

Yeah and in the last 5-10 years you have been playing Nationally Televised prominent matchups every year against Powerful Tennessee including in 2008 when it was #1 vs. #2. And you sit there and say losing a game like that doesn't matter!! Look you aren't Indiana or Kentucky. Those 2 schools can cancel a series and it hurts neither one bit. Memphis cancelling Tennessee is a cop out and a major mistake by your AD from a National standpoint. It doesn't hurt Tennessee it hurts Memphis. I could make an argument that Memphis is on a par with Southern Miss if I wanted to. So absolutely cancelling Tennessee (if you want to be known nationally) is a horrible mistake.
You have complete lost it!!!!
Memphis in NO WAY is hurt by not playing utenn. Memphis is a top 25 basketball program and plays a national schedule, recruits nationally, and has consistantly pulled in top 10 recruiting classes and been preseason ranked in the top 25 more the greater part of this decade.
Please tell me exactly what Memphis gains by playing utenn instead of say like Xavier, Arizona, or Texas?

I think you are arguing football prominence instead of basketball prominence. There's no argument to be made that Memphis is a prominent football program.
You have a first time coach at Memphis pulling in top national talent. How would these players even know about the program if it wasn't relevant nationally?
BTO talking to recruits? Anyone else not feel great about that?
BTO you bring in good info, but please do not go down the road as Sab.
Seriously just looking out for your best interests.
Memphis has been to the FF 3 times...that last thing we are worried about is playing utenn. It hurts Memphis ZERO....we will just schedule another BCS team. THAT IS ALL utenn IS...A BCS TEAM. nothing more, nothing less.
uhmmmmmmmm
No you haven't.
Yes we have and the whole country knows Memphis as a FF program. We just are lucky enough to have a cool * beside our 1985 and 2008 final four trips that you should remember watching Memphis compete in.
PS: recruits know Memphis is a FF program...you will come along eventually!
