#2 Knicks vs. #3 Pacers

Pacers went into New York and accomished their goal. The fourth quarter last night was simply that: the fourth quarter last night. No more, no less. The pacers did what they had to do. NY had to win that quarter and they did. No harm, no foul. I would be happy if I were a pacers fan. jmo

HUGE game tonight. The Pacers really need to rebound after their collapse in the 4th quarter earlier in the week. I'm hopeful, yet skeptical that they can. I think the Knicks win this one pretty handily. It's just tough to pick yourself up off the floor after a meltdown of those epic proportions. Hopefully the extra days of rest and home court can give Indy little boost.

I like the Pacers tonight. 95-87.

I'm just not very optimistic. I was soaring high after game one but I'm down on everything... not just sports lol.

We'll see. I know the Pacers could easily win both at home but game 2 was a wake up call. Knicks got open look after open look. Pacers were 10 feet away on a ton of shots. Can you fix that over night? The defense was lousy.

I wouldn't go that far. They're one of the youngest teams in the league, and if they can keep most of their pieces together should be one of the 3-4 best teams in the East for a few more years. That said, I don't think the Pacers win another game this season. You don't just shake off getting outscored 258-7 (or at least that's what it felt like) in the 4th quarter of a playoff game like its nothing. But, like huffhines said, the wildcard is always Smith and Melo's shooting, they always have the potential to shoot the Knicks right out of any game.

No, that Pacers don't suck.

Though they did in game 2.

Sometimes I get too into sports. My avatar was a Pacers logo well before the playoffs lol.

I love all my teams. It's easy to get overly-excited/pissed off.

Ugh. The Knicks couldn't have played a worse half of basketball, yet they only trail by 3. If either team can shoot a little better and put a run together, this one could get ugly.

When I posted that it was actually Hill that was on a missing spree. Since then Lance has gone to another level with bad 3's.

lol

I was only upset when he ran down court and pulled up for the jumper. I know he can hit it but we had been bricking regularly. It was time to slow it down and wait for our guys to have a chance to set up and rebound. Killing em on the boards and he chooses to toss up a shot with all Knicks under the basket.

I'm fine with Hill taking 3's cause he hits em at a pretty good rate. Stephenson has improved tons but I still hate when he takes 3's. I only like when he drives. His shot is disgustingly bad from 3 lol

How the hell do the Knicks get the points for that tip in? Smith's shot obviously hit the rim, but the just ignore the offensive goaltending on the put back.

Can the Pacers do it again in game 4?

Probably not.

Guess I better enjoy the win tonight lol

You two are the most self-deprecating fans I've ever seen. Indiana the better team. Wouldn't be surprised if the series only goes 5.

I'm not ready to say the Pacers are better.

I do on paper think the line up is better but I saw game 2 + it's NY/Melo. We'll see...

Congrats to the pacers!!

Thanks man!

Let's go Pacers vs. Grizzlies finals!

How bad would those ratings be? lol

The teams alone would be a turn off for a lot of fans but the style of play... Grizzlies were #1 in points allowed, Pacers #2. I'm not sure where the Grizzlies finished but the Pacers finished #1 in field goal percentage and three point percentage on defensively. They're also #1 in rebounding.

Grizz and Pacers might be so physical they'd be playing 4 on 4 with 16 players fouled out. The score would be like 60-58. lol

It all revolves around the defense/Melo's and JR Smith's shooting. The Pacers have serious offensive deficiencies, and on nights where the other team gets hot or the Pacers mail it in on D, it's almost impossible for them to win. Last night they barely broke 80, but still won by double figures. Now, onto Game 4. If Indy can hold serve again on Tuesday night, the series will be close to over. If they lose, we're right back at square one with the Knicks having home court again. I feel infinitely better about the Pacers chances to win this series than I did 12 hours ago though. I really thought the way Game 2 ended was going to be too devastating to recover from. Thankfully, I couldn't have been more wrong.

Thanks man!

If the Pacers can win this series, and the rest of the series play out like they have so far, the conference finals are already setting up to be the NBA's nightmare scenario. They'd have either the Spurs, a team that a lot of people checked out on years ago because they are perceived as boring, or the Warriors, a team that a lot of people on the East coast may have never seen this year. They'd also have Memphis and Indiana, two of the smallest markets in the league. At least they'd still have the Eastern Conference All-Stars to keep people watching.

Knicks appear to have no chance in this series. Melo and Smith are both in slumps, and the Knicks are getting dominated on the glass*. I don't understand playing Smith and Melo at the same time. You want Novak in with Melo...or Brewer, but his ship went sailing long ago.

*Knicks bigs = 59 minutes
Pacers bigs = 90 minutes

Smith had another bad night last night. If it weren't for the fact that he'd led up to last night with 3 or 4 horrible games, I'd have attributed his performance to being sick. For the Pacers sake hopefully this series will end before he breaks out of the slump.

The Pacers are probably the worst matchup possible for the Knicks. The Knicks can't handle their size, and the Knicks rely too much on perimeter scoring which matches up against the strength of the Pacers D. Between Melo and Smith they've had 5 games in this series where they shot less than 40%. They are averaging 37 FGA so you can see why the Knicks have looked so bad.

Yeah, really dont get the rotation right now......it, along with the poor shooting is killing us right now

I wish that could be attributed to the Pacers defense but I don't know. Knicks were shooting lousy coming into the series so that might have more to do with it than anything. Though, I'm sure the Pacers length doesn't help.

And we're back to square one. Well... back to square 2? Game 4 is the same as game 2. Go down 2-0 or 3-1 and the series looks bleak. Tie is up and it's anyone's game. This might actually be worse though because at least if you're down 2-0, you can drop another game. Down 3-1, there is no room for error and you have to win 3 in a row.

The series is all but over if the Pacers win. If the Knicks win... I'll be back in panic mode. Funny how that works. Big big game.

I guess I just have yet to develop a trust with this team. I watch the games and feel like they are a better team that the Knicks, or at least a horrible matchup for them, but I still can't make the leap and say for certain I think they're going to win the series. More than anything, the way the Pacers came down the home stretch may still have me spooked. They were right there battling the Knicks for second place in the East all year long, but over the final few weeks, lost their defensive identity and almost fell all the way behind Brooklyn.

For those that watch Miami and/or the Knicks more than I do, who do you feel presents the greater threat to the Heat in the ECF? I've sold myself all year that it's Indy, due to their size and rebounding, a category in which the Heat struggle, and a couple head to head wins. However, I haven't really watched the Heat play the Knicks this year.
