'19 FL QB Brian Maurer Commits to UT

When the power programs in your own state don’t offer, you’re not that good.

Besides, if he’s so awesome then why do schools like Appy St feel like they have a shot at him?

And go ahead and give me the Baker Mayfield example since I know it’s coming anyway.

Thanks,

Signed Randall Cobb and Patrick Willis

For all the 3* critics, this is Florida, and not every QB can be a 4 and 5*, not sure you understand how that gets computed. It takes a lot of time, money and traveling to get your stars, and he was an elite 11 finalist, runs a 4.5 can make all the throws..........., I think Helton has seen enough QBs to know who has "it"...........so, can anyone name the last 5* QB that has gone on to the NFL and lived up to all the hype.........without looking it up? fyi Tim Tebow was a 5* and we know how that turned out. here is a list:

2002 – Vince Young (Texas), Trent Edwards (Stanford), Ben Olson (BYU).

2003 – Kyle Wright (Miami).

2004 – Rhett Bomar (Oklahoma), Xavier Lee (Florida State), Anthony Morelli (Penn State), Chad Henne (Michigan).

2005 – Mark Sanchez (USC), Ryan Perrilloux (LSU).

2006 – Mitch Mustain (Arkansas), Matthew Stafford (Georgia), Tim Tebow (Florida).

2007 – Jimmy Clausen (Notre Dame), Ryan Mallett (Michigan), Tyrod Taylor (Virginia Tech).

2008 – Terrelle Pryor (Ohio State), Dayne Crist (Notre Dame).

2009 - Matt Barkley (USC), Russell Shepard (LSU), Garrett Gilbert (Texas).

2010 – After evaluation, Rivals failed to find a five star quarterback.

I don't really care what they did in the NFL. Most of these guys were outstanding in college. That's what matters to me.

I hate saying this.
But, really want to see us getting back to bringing in guys who are 4 and 5 Star consensus guys when they commit

....not just 3 stars that we are hoping they get bumped up...Rivals lists him as the 66th best player in Florida
2019 Rivals.com Florida Top 100

That is just me....and if it makes me a Debbie downer, so be it...
With all that is in my orange filled veins, I want this guy to be the next Peyton.
I want the 3 Star stuff not to matter...
I want a Top Ten class not to matter....
But, until then, I will just try to think good thoughts that this is our QB Of the future and he will rock the football world.

All that being said....Welcome, Brian.....don’t pay any attention to this old worry wart Vol fan who suffers from big orange derangement syndrome. Lol...

sounds like my thinking

So you are saying you would prefer we recruit some of these players instead of the ones the Pruitt thinks will fit into his system?

Lets go get us a Ryan Perrilloux, or Ben Olson, or James Banks, or Mitch Mustain, or Kyle Wright, or a Bryce Brown to carry the ball?

The first round of the 2018 NFL draft saw only seven 5 star players drafted. 1 of those was a QB when recruited out of high school. 2 first round picks were not even rated coming out of high school.

The first round of the 2017 NFL draft saw ten 5 stars drafted, 2 drafts picks were not rated and a top 5 pick that was a 2 star out of high school.

the 2016 draft saw five 5 star players drafted and 5 players who were unrated drafted in the first round.

the first round of the 2015 NFL draft saw eight 5 stars picked, 16 three stars, and a 2 star picked.

What I am saying is these players who got drafted were put into the correct situations to perform and their talent was developed. Recruiting all 5 stars players starts causing playing time problems and transfers which I would presume you would then complain about.

Having the best player does not always equal a championship......just ask Lebron.

Watching the earlier vid that was the thing that sort of stood out to me about the young man was how quick he ball got out of his hands.

This is a very valid point that people should consider. I watched his junior highlights a while back and didn’t see SEC Championship talent. I could care less about Elite 11 camps. They’re a contrived 7 on 7 money maker for sponsors and coaches. Talent is evaluated in live game action. I’ll obviously defer to our coaches, but hope we eventually strike Gold at QB in this class.

I hate to say this.
But the fact you mentioned star rating in your QB evaluation says you don't know what to look for anyway.

Helton has coached some very good QBs. And he wanted this guy...

He was in the Elite 11 Finals.
Guess what? No all the 4 stars made it that far...

I would take Urban, Fisher, Kiffin and Our staffs opinion over Mullen and Taggart ANY DAY!

Georgia didn't offer Dobb's, so does that mean he wasn't very good?

What about when all major state schools offer a kid and he's a bust? Does it still make him good because he was offered by all the state schools??

Fisher just got fired at FSU............

Urban’s offer wasn’t commitable. The kid tried to commit, but they turned him down.

Mullen is one of the best evaluators and teachers of QBs in the NCAA. His resumé includes a Heisman Trophy winner and sending QBs to the NFL. If you know anything about SEC QB coaches, you should know that.

Okay? And Tyson Helton just had one of his QBs go Pro who wasn't even on anyone's radar.... So what's your point.

If you knew anything about football you would know Jimbo didn't get fired at FSU, he resigned. Urban offered him, like I previously said. Lane Kiffin offered him, like I previously said. Mullen Wasn't why Tebow went to Florida and it didn't take much to evaluate a 5* QB in Tebow.

No matter what any of us think about stars or offer lists, the staff had several qb's come in and throw for them. This guy and Taulia are the 2 they recruited/recruiting hardest.

Yes, they recruited him more than some with a higher star ranking. Is that good or bad in the long run?, no idea.
But if you rely solely on rankings to follow recruiting, you may want to take a break. For better or worse, this staff is picking who they want and don't seem to care about others opinions.

NM, someone already addressed it.

Regardless of 3,4, or 5 stars I'm curious to how all the commits perform their senior season this fall. Perhaps it will enlighten all of our negavols and sunshine pumpers equally.

Also Urban,Jimbo,Kiffin and Helton have had and coached Heisman trophy winners, contender's and NFL QB's.
