'19 FL QB Brian Maurer Commits to UT

Great pick up for our Vols but I don't think he's a day one starter. His junior stats are pedestrian. 57% completion percentage. Meh. Now i heard from others he plays on a bad team so that could explain some of it.

He performed well at the camps so that's a plus. However, bullets weren't flying. I think he'll be a project. I hope the staff still goes hard after Harrison Bailey for the 2020 class. Time will tell. Welcome to the Hill Brian!

He really had some huge numbers in high school last season to be rated a three star. I would really like to know why 2800 yards and 22 touchdowns is three star performance plus 400 yards rushing. Evidently he has some weaknesses that the ratings people saw to put him where he is rated.

Mullen’s strength as a coach is developing QBs, and this kid from his backyard in Ocala doesn’t impress him enough to offer? Huge red flag, no offers from Miami and FSU either.

I hate saying this.
But, really want to see us getting back to bringing in guys who are 4 and 5 Star consensus guys when they commit

....not just 3 stars that we are hoping they get bumped up...Rivals lists him as the 66th best player in Florida
2019 Rivals.com Florida Top 100

That is just me....and if it makes me a Debbie downer, so be it...
With all that is in my orange filled veins, I want this guy to be the next Peyton.
I want the 3 Star stuff not to matter...
I want a Top Ten class not to matter....
But, until then, I will just try to think good thoughts that this is our QB Of the future and he will rock the football world.

All that being said....Welcome, Brian.....don’t pay any attention to this old worry wart Vol fan who suffers from big orange derangement syndrome. Lol...
You obviously don’t realize that he exploded at elite 11 from an unknown and was subsequently offered by Ohio State and Texas A&M.
Wait??

For all the 3* critics, this is Florida, and not every QB can be a 4 and 5*, not sure you understand how that gets computed. It takes a lot of time, money and traveling to get your stars, and he was an elite 11 finalist, runs a 4.5 can make all the throws..........., I think Helton has seen enough QBs to know who has "it"...........so, can anyone name the last 5* QB that has gone on to the NFL and lived up to all the hype.........without looking it up? fyi Tim Tebow was a 5* and we know how that turned out. here is a list:

2002 – Vince Young (Texas), Trent Edwards (Stanford), Ben Olson (BYU).

2003 – Kyle Wright (Miami).

2004 – Rhett Bomar (Oklahoma), Xavier Lee (Florida State), Anthony Morelli (Penn State), Chad Henne (Michigan).

2005 – Mark Sanchez (USC), Ryan Perrilloux (LSU).

2006 – Mitch Mustain (Arkansas), Matthew Stafford (Georgia), Tim Tebow (Florida).

2007 – Jimmy Clausen (Notre Dame), Ryan Mallett (Michigan), Tyrod Taylor (Virginia Tech).

2008 – Terrelle Pryor (Ohio State), Dayne Crist (Notre Dame).

2009 - Matt Barkley (USC), Russell Shepard (LSU), Garrett Gilbert (Texas).

2010 – After evaluation, Rivals failed to find a five star quarterback.

A lot of these guys won big games in college. That’s all I care about. I’d kill for a Tebow at UT right now.

Wait??

OSU and TAMU boards are saying not commitable offers.
But, I hope you are correct and they are not.
Taking a QB that those two schools really wanted would be big.

Typical post after reeling in an underwhelming recruit.

#Tennessee looks like they got a good one this morning with the commitment of Brian Maurer, a QB from FLA. He was one of the more impressive kids at the @Elite11 a few weeks back.

You'll note that he said "more impressive" and not "most impressive". It's a sign!

And if the poor kid gets on campus and blows out a knee, who's gonna take care of him?

I jest, I jest. I trust the coaches to know what to know what they are doing. I just hope the commitment stays firm.

Are we playing in the NFL, or college? A lot of the guys you listed were ballers in college. I'd take Tim Tebow, Vince Young, Terrelle Pryor, Matt Barkley, Mitch and Stafford all day
