That was my initial take and opinion of the situation months ago, just a week or so ago I said that my opinion is that Mann is definitely this staffs focus now at PG.
A couple of months ago you had: Josiah James, Jalen Lecque, KyKy Tandy and Kira Lewis all in the picture, since then...Duke & Michigan State (his fathers alma mater have offered and he appears headed to one of those, Jalen Lecque has expressed an interest in skipping college and going straight to the NBA, Kira Lewis is being pursued by UK and appears to be holding out for an offer from them, Tandy is a guy that is more in that 100 range as a prospect and not on the same level as the other guys. So that leaves you with Tre Mann, now if August or September rolls around and staff is getting vibes Mann is heading to KU then Im guessing theyll crank it up on Tandy, but right now as long as the vibes continue to be good between Mann & Tennessee my guess is they have no issue waiting.

The tricky part in that scenario is running the risk of being left at the altar again.
Very true, but the staff trusted where they were with Burns and it worked out ok...my guess is that Lanier and cousin Mike talk nearly every day, he isnt going to BS Rob, if things start to trend a different direction then I would guess hed be one of the first to know and staff would respond accordingly.

Really? There were quite a few people saying they would look into graduate transfer bigs if a good one became available.
Youre acting as if there werent other options, that was my point.
I just worry about the timing. If cousin Mike doesn't make Lanier aware until September-October, then I fear we may be left holding the bag. It worked out with Burns, but there are scores of other examples where it hasn't, and we end up settling for someone else. Sometimes that works out, sometimes it doesn't. Tennessee basketball is littered with examples of that very thing happening, both under Barnes and the coaches before him.
I just feel like our time to strike is now if we are to up our recruiting profile. I wouldn't be waiting on Mann exclusively if he plans to take things into the Fall. I'd be identifying, offering, and encouraging visits to my other top guys immediately. And maybe they are behind the scenes, though the public perception is that we have identified our guy and are dead-set on him, come help our high water.
I just don't want to waste this opportunity to make hay while the sun shines.
