'19 FL PG Tre Mann

Ziti, maybe go back and start from the beginning, maybe then you will understand.

I never claimed Mann wasn’t one of our top priorities on the board, I never claimed he wasn’t a take, and I never claimed he didn’t have a commitable offer. The only thing I disputed was the statement that he was #1 on our PG board, and my stance on that has never changed, including today. In my opinion there were multiple guys (Josiah James, Kira Lewis and Jalen Lecque) along with Tre Mann that all would probably be ranked 1A, 1B, 1C etc. by this staff.

My stance today isn’t any different on this topic than it was months ago, whether we land him or not doesn’t change that. In my opinion Mann was one of the top guys on our board, but he also wasn’t the only guy, as evidenced by the names listed above. Our disagreement centered around your insinuation (“there is no tie”) that Mann was clearly the #1 guy on our board and everyone else would essentially be a plan B, you have since backed off that claim and said maybe other guys were takes too, but that is what I was saying all along. Again, my disagreement wasn’t that Mann was a priority, clearly he is/was, by disagreement was that he was the top overall guy on the board and anyone after him was a fallback option.

Here's what you're missing. Mann is the #1 target (IMO) because he was the best of the most realistic options. On top of that there was a tie-in with the staff and he was also speeding his recruitment up which means he has trimmed his list letting us know we are really in it. He has been the priority for months now IN MY OPINION.

Listing guys like Lecque and James with him is a waste of time. Mann had shown a genuine interest. Those guys had not and the chances of us landing either of those guys is/was close to zero. Even going back a month ago Lewis was seen as a guy who was gonna wait it out to see what happens. So if I'm Tennessee then I have a board of point guards but I'm circling Tre Mann because he's the best realistic option.

Still, whether or not he is THE top guy is an opinion. Now, I know how recruiting works and so do you. And we both realize that. Does the staff like Josiah and Lecque better? Probably. But the San Jose State coach probably like Lebron James better than some other forwards 15 years ago too.

Mann has been the priority for this staff at guard. Best of the most realistic options and his timeline suits us better too because we need a guard in this class and don't need to go into spring without one.

The staff felt “in it” enough with the other PG’s to dedicate an assistant solely to Josiah James and pull Barnes from EYBL for a day to watch him as well. The staff also was in attendance for just as many games of Lecque’s and Lewis’ as that of Mann, so the staff didn’t seemingly didn’t prioritize one much more than another. If Mann had said he was gonna hold out for a bit and Lewis had been ready to visit the staff would’ve moved forward and brought Lewis in, to me that is evidence that you had multiple guys at the top. As I said months ago the fact Mann was ready to visit and do something you do it, but just like I said at the time that doesn’t mean he was solely atop the list imo. Kira Lewis and Jalen Lecque have both unofficially visited multiple times, so I don’t think comparing their recruitments to that of San Jose State and Lebron is exactly the same, but jmo.

Yeah that was an exaggeration used to make a point.

Mann was still best of the realistic options. Top of the board IMO. The staff watching other guys is part of the job. Something they need to be doing.

You've already said he's the top guy. Not sure why you keep trying to circle back around to act as though he's not.

At this point today I do think he is, that doesn’t mean it was the case when the previous conversation took place, time can change things in recruiting as you know. At that time Kira Lewis interviewed and said he was likely to OV to Tennessee, Lecque was making Tennessee among his top 4-5, and Josiah James continued to name Tennessee among his favorites. Since then UK & KU have offered Lewis and he has seemingly moved towards the bigger stage, Lecque is looking to go Anfernee Simons route and never play college ball, Duke offered Josiah James which is thought to be a game changer as did Michigan State which is where his dad played.

So yes as of today I think Mann is at the top of the list, but that doesn’t mean he was when the conversation took place and I even bumped quotes showing your agreement with this. When you are saying other guys are takes as well that is evidence multiple guys are viewed on the same level, example being we wouldn’t take a guy like say Drew Pember for 2019 without getting a lot of other answers first. Why? Because Pember is down the list.

Easy way to tell....are pages full of worthless Ziti posts? If yes, ignore those posts.

When BTO and Ziti argue no one wins, in fact every single one of us takes an L for having to read 10+ pages of it.

I agree it does detract from real info and insights but I can understand to a degree BTO tweaking Ziti given his stance on Barnes' recruiting and, in Mann's case, his rush to judgment.

You'll get used to it.
Just rooooll with the flow.

No timetable on this but since Tre Mann has been a healthy topic of discussion among some of you lately, wanted to pass along.

Talking to several people this afternoon about Tennessee recruiting in general after Pember's commitment and hearing very strongly from some generally reliable quarters that Tennessee is putting themselves in really strong position for Mann. Had mentioned in the War Room that it felt to me like Tennessee had some momentum, but after a couple of conversations today feel like they have even more momentum than I originally thought.

Again, no timetable on a decision but sounding increasingly like the Vols are in a very good spot here based on what I'm hearing.

“Just told me that he is definitely not making a decision until after he visits Kansas. If that is indeed the case all the rumors about him doing something soon just went out the window.

Tennessee still in very good shape there, I would guess they lead though he didn’t flatly state that, but sounds like the finish line isn’t as close as myself and others have been thinking.”

I say let the kid have his moment to be wooed by a blue blood program (Kansas). It will boost his star rating and add a little spice to his announcement. He is having an incredible summer in the AAU circuit. Hoping he will make it to Virginia for the Boo Williams classic so I can see him in person.

The problem with that is that it's my guess Kansas is going to slow play that visit and it might never even happen. Tricky line to toe here

If August hits and he’s still waiting around on Kansas then I’m done waiting if I’m Tennessee
You've been saying that UT is recruiting several PG's and that Mann isn't necessarily at the top of their list, only that he's the one on their list who appeared to be choosing earliest. They continued to actively recruit them all and would take whoever committed first. If this is true, then what changes if Mann waits to decide? Would appear UT is waiting on them all?

That was my initial take and opinion of the situation months ago, just a week or so ago I said that my opinion is that Mann is definitely this staffs focus now at PG.

A couple of months ago you had: Josiah James, Jalen Lecque, KyKy Tandy and Kira Lewis all in the picture, since then...Duke & Michigan State (his fathers alma mater” have offered and he appears headed to one of those, Jalen Lecque has expressed an interest in skipping college and going straight to the NBA, Kira Lewis is being pursued by UK and appears to be holding out for an offer from them, Tandy is a guy that is more in that 100 range as a prospect and not on the same level as the other guys. So that leaves you with Tre Mann, now if August or September rolls around and staff is getting vibes Mann is heading to KU then I’m guessing they’ll crank it up on Tandy, but right now as long as the vibes continue to be good between Mann & Tennessee my guess is they have no issue waiting.
