'19 FL PG Tre Mann

We heard Burns continue to say he didn’t have a date in mind and he was still taking OV’s, in reality he was a Vol, some kids want to create at least a little bit of suspense/excitement for their announcement.

That was my initial take and opinion of the situation months ago, just a week or so ago I said that my opinion is that Mann is definitely this staffs focus now at PG.

A couple of months ago you had: Josiah James, Jalen Lecque, KyKy Tandy and Kira Lewis all in the picture, since then...Duke & Michigan State (his fathers alma mater” have offered and he appears headed to one of those, Jalen Lecque has expressed an interest in skipping college and going straight to the NBA, Kira Lewis is being pursued by UK and appears to be holding out for an offer from them, Tandy is a guy that is more in that 100 range as a prospect and not on the same level as the other guys. So that leaves you with Tre Mann, now if August or September rolls around and staff is getting vibes Mann is heading to KU then I’m guessing they’ll crank it up on Tandy, but right now as long as the vibes continue to be good between Mann & Tennessee my guess is they have no issue waiting.

The tricky part in that scenario is running the risk of being left at the altar again.

Very true, but the staff trusted where they were with Burns and it worked out ok...my guess is that Lanier and cousin Mike talk nearly every day, he isn’t going to BS Rob, if things start to trend a different direction then I would guess he’d be one of the first to know and staff would respond accordingly.

The staff didn’t have any other option but to wait it out with Burns.

We didn’t need a grad transfer big.

Come on man. Keep it real.

Really? There were quite a few people saying they would look into graduate transfer bigs if a good one became available.

You’re acting as if there weren’t other options, that was my point.

I just worry about the timing. If cousin Mike doesn't make Lanier aware until September-October, then I fear we may be left holding the bag. It worked out with Burns, but there are scores of other examples where it hasn't, and we end up settling for someone else. Sometimes that works out, sometimes it doesn't. Tennessee basketball is littered with examples of that very thing happening, both under Barnes and the coaches before him.

I just feel like our time to strike is now if we are to up our recruiting profile. I wouldn't be waiting on Mann exclusively if he plans to take things into the Fall. I'd be identifying, offering, and encouraging visits to my other top guys immediately. And maybe they are behind the scenes, though the public perception is that we have identified our guy and are dead-set on him, come help our high water.

I just don't want to waste this opportunity to make hay while the sun shines.

I usablly am in the move on camp after a month or so after the OV but in this case there is no shame in playing second fiddle to Kansas. If the staff believes he isn't a take au Kansas and won't be they have to wait this out imo .

Who is people? Burns was far and away the best option. Not to mention he was more likely than a grad transfer big.

Geez man.

It's extremely hard to comment on what the choices were regarding Burns. We don't even know when it was decided he was going to be an 18. To that matter we could have taken a grad big and then him for 19

Schwartz was in Colorado to watch both Lewis and James this past week, so they are still actively recruiting both, it just doesn’t sound as if either is all that close to doing something.

Yes there have been examples of missing, but not often are those examples from recruits who have a lifelong relationships and are family friends with the assistant head coach, so I’m not sure it’s fair to treat this the same as all misses.

As I said all along with Burns, staff communication with him allowed the staff to feel great even if he was OV’ing to SCAR, maybe that is the case with Mann as well? Or maybe he’s just trying to add a little drama with most people recently saying he was leaning to Tennessee?

Worst case scenario is they miss on Mann and don’t have a PG signed in the fall, they still only have 3 spots so all of a sudden Jitoboh, Gaines and one of these wings looks much more likely and you go into spring looking at PG’s. I don’t see that happening and would be surprised if Mann isn’t at Tennessee, but I’m just saying in your example that’s worst case imo.

Not surprising we’re a 2nd option to one of the Blue Bloods.

That scenario usually doesn’t pan out well for the good guys.

Multiple posters mentioned adding the big dude from South Dakota State(?) if he was to declare

Oh. Posters. Lol. Means zero.

We weren’t looking for grad transfer bigs and you know it. Hell we took a reclassified kid who’s likely gonna shirt.

Why can’t you just keep it real?
