'19 CA QB JT Daniels (Georgia commit)

It really all comes down if Pruitt really wants him or somehow he still trusts JG as our QB.

And that’s with the iffy at times defensive line play. I expect having edge rush help like Joseph and a sophomore Henry T to really help us hit that upper tier.

I don't think DL play is iffy. Once we gained our footing last year a lot of that talent and experience began to show up. They now have a lot of confidence after seeing considerable development. We are deeper at the position this year but identifying a pass rusher will be key.

DL is a strength...prolly our biggest.

Sure and smart, talented QBs migrate to existing, strongly talented WRs more often than having to turn silk purses from sow's ears.

Naturally that is the case but I don't think our roster has a bunch of dog food either. Combine that with possibly 5 NFL players on the OL, and maybe some relationship with Tee Martin then I could see him here.

Now do we need to try to bring him here? That is a different debate. I don't have a lot of trust in Gurantano but we have a packed QB room with a lot of potential. I do want our offense to start the season fast because OU is Game 2 I believe. Not having a spring practice hurts every QB, so for this reason I see Gurantano starting early unfortunately. I do think the staff will determine in Game 1 if he can cut it and not go into Game 2 scared. They won't take that risk if he looks shaky.

JG is our guy. 5th year senior. Too much valuable game experience, including getting benched.

Who are the current players that are going to leave the team? If I'm not mistaken we're already above the 85 scholarship limit.

Spring practice has always culled the herd.

We always say, "the numbers will work themselves out", but not sure how that will work this time. We are in uncharted territory.

Pruitt is going to have to make some tough decisions with far less info than he would prefer.

True. I just don't believe JP can go to a player and tell him to leave. The negative press would be alot to hold off. Although I'm sure it happens.

He can't, but that is what post-season/camp "sitdowns" are for. He will still have to have something similar to them...politely suggest a change may be best for the player. Mix this with "medical scholarships" and the numbers work out.

We had/have some pretty good wrs. And JG is still bad.

They weren’t that good Ron. I liked MQ and JJ but they were middle of the road SEC WRs. Also where is the proof that JT is better than any QB we have now? I think most are assuming because of what he was ranked coming out of HS that he would come here and be an instant upgrade. Maybe he would be but I haven’t seen any data that reiterated that.

Adding JTD would be absolutely massive for the Vols. Anyone thinking otherwise isn’t paying attention.

When we have won games, it normally came from position players stepping up and not from QB play. Auburn in '18 was our WR winning so many jump balls. USCjr last year was special team (Callaway punt return). Our WR have helped our QB play and I can't think of many times that they hurt our QBs off the top of my head.

Waffle House parking lot invite to the next chucklehead that claims Jennings was a middle of the road receiver.
Pretty sure JJ would take matters into his own hands. I’d dare someone to say that directly to his face, especially post Athens Miracle. Or the game he had against South Carolina this year. Or THAT game against Florida. But he’s just a middle of the road receiver 🙄 cmon, just because he’s not one of those “all world” video game create a player WRs like the ones Bama pays for every year does not mean his middle of the road.

I understand Daniels was very highly rated before playing college ball. Did he end up being that impressive at USC?

His stats were pretty pedestrian. 15 TDs and 11 INTs. This fan base would get riled up pretty quickly if we had someone take care of the ball so poorly.

I guess I'm mainly just seeing everyone accept that he'd be an upgrade, but no testimony as to why we can be so sure.
