'17' TN ATH Tee Higgins (Clemson commit)

Problems with the passing game:

-Playcalling is entirely too bland. DBs aren't surprised that it's a pass play when they are called. Most times it's only on obvious passing downs.

-Passing concepts are bland as well. We don't run enough real route combinations. Just basic isolation routes most of the time.

-Personnel usage is next up. Why are we not throwing certain routes to certain guys all the time? Jennings on the fade was one but we tried to go back shoulder to Josh Smith. He doesn't make those catches on the regular.

-Oline play is pedestrian in pass blocking. Our line doesn't take pride in protecting their QB. Ridiculous how they look lackadaisical in pass protection.

-Dobbs decision making is up next. His arm is fine especially now that he's added touch on the deep ball. The decisions with it aren't showing smart play at all. He should be much better now with the ball. He's throw two picks that should've never been thrown and had a few more that should've been picked. He's got to be better mentally.

OL is biggest issue. agree on playcalling. Routes don't fit the style of offense almost like Butch or Debord are confused at what they really want to be. Might as well be under center IMO. The most successful spreads seem to run quick hitting plays get the ball out of the hand but even our short passes are so slow to develop. I watched Houston last night and just wished we could do some of that offensively. I read somewhere that Jake wanted to be like Oregon offensively and create faster routes with open space but Butch wanted to be power football and let him walk

When he chose Clemson I couldn't blame him. We used Preston like they used Mike Williams but only for one quarter. Our passing offense quite frankly should flourish with our running game but coaches are hell bent on playing safe. Craziness. IMO

That's because DeBord and Butch coach scared. I hate to say it but they do. They are not aggressive. The only game I have ever seen Butch play aggresive was the 2013 Georgia game. I commended him for his play calling and decision making in that game. He coached with a pair.

Since that game, and especially since the start of last year, Butch sees all this talent that we have and he coaches to not lose the game. It's incredibly apparent. And any good coach knows how to take advantage of that. I thought he would fix that over the off-season after what it cost us last year, but through two games it is apparent to me that he still hasn't learned his lesson. If anything it has gotten worse. he starts the game playing scared. Our gameplan/play-calling at the start of the VT game was atrocious. It wasn't until we were down 14-0 that he began to open things up.

they play called very aggressively in the bowl game vs NW. They used formations and misdirection that got me excited for this year. So far that playbook has stayed on the shelf since.

Yep, makes 0 sense. All that we can hope for is they are pulling that playbook off the shelf starting next weekend.

Some coaches are just meant to be coordinators. I would be thrilled to have someone like Malzahn running the offense. He's a good coordinator, but he shouldn't be responsible for an entire team. In the same category as Kiffin.

Ha that might actually be good match

Never really thought about it but malzahn could win big with dobbs, kamara, hurd etc

Well....Tee isn't coming here but his excuse that we don't throw the ball well enough is now null and void. If we can do that to Florida's DB then I foresee some decent numbers over the next few weeks for our WR corp.

Louisville will beat them next week.

Louisville will have home field advantage. Clemson should have the better Defense and some video to study. It will be interesting if Clemson can slow them down so their Offense can stay ahead.

I think FSU got caught with their pants down. They did not expect Louisville to have that much fire power.

Poor coaching then

One game that we actually threw the ball and and did it well (in the second half) so I wouldn't get too far ahead of yourself. I need to see that same type of play calling and results over the next couple of weeks before I say we throw the ball well.

Like Lou Holtz said. .. You couldn't tackle Lamar Jackson in a phonebooth.
Clemson will have their hands full.

Game is at Clemson this year. It will be interesting to see if UL can play at the same level on the road against a top team.

If we can consistently do that the rest of the way then we can get his attention especially if Malone keeps it up as they are very similar style WRs. One game isn't going to change things when Clemson lets Mike Williams do his thing every game.
