'17' TN ATH Tee Higgins (Clemson commit)

The working theory on their board appears to be that the CU coaching staff told Tee to say that we were number one so he wouldn't get pressured back home. It's possible that the "Palmer" guy who posts here, is the only one of their fans who isn't a flat out tard.

He's subtle about it.

I played with Shawn. Well, I had a jersey and rode on the bus. There was a lot of talent on those Oak Ridge teams; Jerry Colquitt, Shawn, Mike Caldwell, a guy named Curtis Booker was as gifted an athlete as any of them.
But man, Shawn was special. He could break a defender's ankles while he was still five yards away.
He and Todd Helton at Central graduated the same year and played against each other in some of the best games seen in East Tennessee.

More than one person told me when OR played Central in the playoffs that was the best high school game they ever witnessed. I think Central won.

Clemson program not in same class w UT.
Historically.
Championships.
Competition.
Facilities.
Greenville?

Rodgers and Richardson are there for now cos Butch passed.

Tee clowning Dabo from the start.

Kids don't care about a hundred years ago and their last 10 years is way over ours. They have better WRs in the league than we do. Greeneville is awesome. They wear orange and have a stadium by the water. Atmosphere and stadium are right on par imo

Greenville is awesome? You need to get out more. I mean, it's ok or even pretty good but awesome?

I have to agree.

I went to Clemson's homecoming in 2014 and while the tailgating was top notch, the game atmosphere itself was absolutely boring. I don't think a single person around me was even watching the game.

To make matters worse, their famous "Esso bar" closed at midnight because it is a dry county on Sundays...the game ended at about 11:00.

The highlight of the night was when this random Gator fan/girl that was dead behind the eyes and covered in band-aids fell face first down the stairs in front of everyone...I wish I was kidding when I said that was the first time in a quarter anyone in that section stood up.

This is something I don't like. On the same team as Amari and Hunter Johnson at the Opening.

Has Butch or Barnes or any staff from UT expressed their concerns about Tee wanting to play both sports too?

Seems to me like he's dead bent on playing college basketball too. He most certainly has the basketball talent too if he wanted to play here at UT or any other school. He might be 5 star recruit in football but isn't he a 4 star in basketball?

I think he can play both & play them both greatly. Is his career in professional sports better for football or basketball? That's a hard question to answer for a lot of reasons. If it wasn't for concussion/injury concerns in football then I think no doubt it's football.

However, he's a great basketball player too & has a less chance at concussions in basketball. I would love for him to come to Knoxville & play both sports though but if it came down to one sport it would have to be football. That's where he's probably going to be a superstar.
Don't get me wrong but east Tn basketball is absolutely awful. You have two top teams year in and year out( Bearden, Fulton) that's it. In my honest opinion he is a d-1 basketball player. Not a high profile school guy like Duke, Kansas, KY, NC, ect... But he can play at every other school in the SEC. I have watched him play both an in my opinion he has a higher ceiling and chance to be a pro in football. Now before you say what are you some sort of scout... I played college basketball at the lower level, could have played higher but didn't have the grades( as you can tell by my grammer and spelling) and played against some good players some made it to the NBA ( Shannon Brown, Curry) so I do have a little knowledge on the game.

Not going to make a difference

I don't feel as confident as some. When you have Amari (who he is great friends with) and a great QB like Johnson combined with the recent success, then there is no telling what can happen. I understand we are the hometown school but will that be enough. We shall see, I guess.

Great QB?

I also played college basketball at a lower level(NAIA). Wasn't because of grades for me. Was because I wanted to stay close to home & I am a shorty at 5'9". That has been over 25 years ago. Man, time does fly.

You're right. East Tennessee basketball is pretty weak. Fulton is usually the top of the cupboard every year & they are not great. The girls team is usually even better than the boys team. They make the state title game almost every single year. The Elizabethton girls at AAA are also a really good girls high school basketball program.

I played against the likes of Darrin Hancock(ended up playing basketball at Kansas) & Terry Kirby(played football at Virginia). These were in seasonal tournament games though & not regular conference games. Hancock actually jumped completely over me in one game & dunked it.

I had his you know what right in my face as he went over me. Never will forget that. He played for Griffin, Ga High School & Kirby played for Tabb High School in Virginia.

I say let him take the basketball scholly.. we get a stud and it frees up another spot for another stud.. win win..

Doesn't work that way. If he plays FB and any other sports, by rule it counts against football. It's commonly referred to as the "Bear Bryant" rule .

If he plays fb he has to be on a FB scholarship. That is called the Bear Bryant rule because he would put Football players on basketball scholarships for him to get more players.

Oh I see. Makes sense. I'm all for him playing both sports. If he comes here and lives up to the hype volnaton has cast upon him on the football field, the fan base will fall in love with the kid and TBA will pack out if he can even become a contributing part of the ball team.. your only young once so let the kid enjoy his competitive nature as long as he can keep his academics on par.

Whether we like it or not Hunter Johnson is a great QB. He might not have fit our system or whatever other thing we want to say but he will be a great player for Clemson (or wherever he goes).

He would have fit our system just fine, or perhaps more accurately, our system would have been tweaked to fit him. He was a big loss. The only thing that makes me feel a little better about him flipping is Guarantano and how good I think he'll be here.

For me it was the Knoxville Dobyns-Bennett vs Jackson Central-Merry game in the '73 state championship game. Both teams undefeated. KD-B won 50-48 in triple OT after the game was tied 28-28 at the end of regulation.
