'17' TN ATH Tee Higgins (Clemson commit)

Per Hubbs

What's going to be very interesting to watch in this class is not just Tennessee is making the Volunteer State a priority. Clemson, Florida State, Auburn, Georgia, Ohio State are all hoping to land several prospects from inside the state this year and the Vols are going to have to fight off a number of schools from getting the top prospects this upcoming cycle.

The decommitment of Tee Higgins was certainly disappointing news on Thursday night for the Tennessee coaches. The Vols have been battling there as more and more teams came after the talented athlete.

But, what must be taken into account is the legitimate fact that Higgins has the ability to play both football and basketball at the next level and he's taking that more serious than ever. In talking to several close to the situation tonight, Higgins wants to explore his opportunities on that front.

Tennessee will continue to be an option as Rick Barnes has serious interest in Higgins as a player.

BB, you mention CP was the best WR we've signed in the past decade, side step his route running ability, and only mention his reverses/sweeps as highlights so far. As far as him being better in a Cutcliffe system, I don't see it. We passed for more yards in 2012 than we ever did under Coach Cut, with Peyton's senior season being the lone exception. To say he was the most athletic WR, now we're talking. A true freak of nature.

I like your DB evaluations, but I'm having doubts about your WR evaluations.

I didn't like the 2012 offensive style. The way Cut used Meachem would be crazy for CP production wise. I like CP and I evaluate WRs based on my likes and potential. Thus me saying again this is my opinion. 😁😁😁😁😁

Kelley Washington was every bit the athlete CP was. He also played under Randy Sanders, not David Cutcliffe.

CP had at least played football in JUCO and HS immediately before playing at UT. Washington came off the streets after four years of playing baseball and dominated at WR in the SEC. He just wasn't utilized as a runner like CP, though he was certainly capable.

Kelly Washington couldn't cut like CP. There hasn't been a WR in Orange like him after the catch.

CP was not the best pure WR. He was very electric with the ball in his hands but as a pure WR, Hunter was much better.

As for Higgins, this is just spectacular.

Higgins isn't looking at Clemson for basketball. He is looking at Clemson because they are putting people in the NFL and WR at that.

Win next year and win big and this will fix itself.

BTW Clemson aint won crap but second place... And you know what Ricky Bobby thinks of that.

That does it. I have lost all interest in recruiting until next Feb. BYE

At least we cannot lose anymore 2017 recruits. 0-1 0r 2 0r3 still equals 0 :loco:

I will say that once he got the ball in his hands with a crease to hit, there weren't many like CP. However, his receiver skills weren't great. If he got open and caught it , though.....look out.

I think most saw this coming. Clemson is the popular pick now, couple good seasons coach with a dynamic personality, etc.... Don't think this a totally lost cause yet. Have a great year, throw the ball more and we might still be in the hunt.

I'm sorry but I personally would take CP over the others. My style of WR. I like the exciting athletes. Would love to get him in a college system for 3 years and see what he could do.

Stallworth is my other favorite as a Vol.

Then Pickens is my third.

Stalls and Pick were two great WR. Did great in the NFL because they were great athletes and WR.

CP with the ball was silly. Hunter could run and jump like crazy. CP could stop on a dime, play with power, and out run your entire defense. Remember the reverses versus Miss State and Georgia(who had NFL talent all over the field). You've never seen a WR in the SEC make those type of plays.

Running reverses are not the first thing listed about great receivers. CP listed as most athletic and fun UT player to watch with the ball in his hands? Yes! Best wideout? No

If I was the Vikings, I'd use him out of the backfield like a running back. Dude is too special with the ball, even in the pro ranks.

Not a big deal either way, we are pretty stacked at WR and in my mind its the easiest position to recruit. Sure we continue to recruit him but if Tee goes to Clemson or somewhere else we just go into FL or GA and get his replacement. Next.

Better a day after NSD than a day before (2017) NSD

"Tennessee is not out of the conclusion and I consider them a priority."

Long way to go

Nothing to freak out about yet.

That said, the rallying cry this past cycle was a loaded '17 class. Need to keep instate, instate.

Watching Robert Meachem murder Cal in Neyland is my 2nd favorite stadium moment as a student. #1 of course goes to Wilhoit kicking a 50+ yard fg to beat Florida.

For that reason, I'll always consider Meachem the best Tennessee WR I've seen.

No one pays better than Clemson.

Other than Auburn and Ole Miss. I understand AU being in the conversation with a traditionally winning program but OM, an SEC arm pit since the beginning of time, suddenly becoming a powerhouse in 2-4 yrs. They are a dirty, nasty cheating program. If Vandy were in their shoes I would say the same thing. Something is rotten in Oxford. Let's not forget CHF was a package deal with Oher and he left when the heat got hot and returned when it died down. Now 5 star Shea Patterson's brother lands a job and Shea commits shortly thereafter. You're nuts if you don't believe Shea will get part of his brothers coaching salary to play there...aka indirect payment.
