'17' TN ATH Tee Higgins (Clemson commit)

I would say Antonio is perhaps the best WR but definitely not the "quickest". Tayvon Austin has insane quickness, more so than Brown IMO.

Nah I watched Antonio consistently beat Chris Harris with very nasty quickness. Austin is quicker with the ball but throughout their routes I think Brown is the quickest WR in the league. Best WR IMO is Julio Jones though.

This dude is an absolute baller but i'm beginning to wonder why we're still recruiting these tall deep threat type receivers instead of the lightning quick shorter ones. The receiver who has had the most success in this offense thus far has been pig howard because he dominated in the short passing game. Maybe it'll change (hopefully) once we get a different QB in here who's a bit more accurate on the deep routes but for now I want more elite slot guys (like Mecole Hardman who we unfortunately missed out on). Is there a shorter guy like that that we're in on who's a big time prospect?

Is the CP you guys are referring to Cordarrelle Patterson--the guy who was not very good as a receiver at UT and has been a TOTAL BUST as a receiver in the NFL? He's a kick returner--period. Fantastic athlete, great runner in the open field--but not a wide receiver. I just checked his Viking stats for this year--2 catches! They will not keep him much longer.

CP wasn't a bad WR at Tennessee. Pro career is another thing but to arrive in the late Summer and do what he did was remarkable.

Why does someone always have to do this? I'm sure you left one of these in the Kongbo thread too. It wasn't cute then either. Higgins will be a Vol when it matters - a year from now.

Because it's a long running joke. Even from catbone...it's a joke. Anyone who has been a regular in the RF knows it's a joke. That's why you see it repeated so many times. Because it's a joke.

You don't like the joke. So what. :hi:

You need these tall guys outside. We just need to learn how to use them better.

Of course, I understand it's a joke... but just like the Rod Wilks/Paul Bain gags, it's been beaten to death and is not funny.

Imo it doesnt matter height.

It is can they get open, make a catch when it's thrown to them and got speed to get yac.

Dobbs isnt accurate either

The middle of the field was open alot last season and we didnt throw it there enough.

Too many east and west passes

That was my point i'm trying to make. If they're gonna insist on the East and West passes why not get receivers who are YAC guys like pig howard or even Kamara when he runs the slot. I want a vertical passing game more than anyone but heck gotta recruit guys who work best with what we do. I'd rather have a Percy Harvin for our offense rather than a Julio Jones type.

Highly rated instate kids have always been a pain in the butt. I don't get it. I understand some kids are just wired to want to get out in the world, but it seems like pulling teeth to get most of them to stay home and run through the T. This is depressing.

I'm with you, Hurd and TK were rarified air for us. Just have to start putting guys in the NFL and they'll come.

They will be a playoff team again... There's a lot of pressure on us to prove we are really back

Na, got to play at FSU this year. They need the shady ACC refs to bail them out of their championship game against North Carolina a week after a South Carolina team that lost to the Citadel took them to the wire. They had a good season don't get me wrong, but they were far from an unbeatable juggernaut everyone is making them out to be going into next season. I could see finishing with a very similar record to Clemson. They have the new toy syndrome with these local kids who wasn't even looking their way until Little Johnson and his dad Smaller Johnson jumped ship and went to Clemson. We already have a better QB in cue with Lawerence kid in the 2018 class.

BB, you mention CP was the best WR we've signed in the past decade, side step his route running ability, and only mention his reverses/sweeps as highlights so far. As far as him being better in a Cutcliffe system, I don't see it. We passed for more yards in 2012 than we ever did under Coach Cut, with Peyton's senior season being the lone exception. To say he was the most athletic WR, now we're talking. A true freak of nature.

I like your DB evaluations, but I'm having doubts about your WR evaluations.

As long as the in game coaching doesn't lose us the big games

Coaches have alot to prove on Saturdays this fall

Well the defense gave up late leads. We have added more depth, our younger kids are a year older, and we brought in a legit D-Coordinator. Butch showed he is willing to shake things up and do what he has to do to get it done. I'm calling 10-2 and a trip to the Championship game right now.

He could do whatever he wanted. Kelley Wahington was like that in year 1. Carlos Rogers at Michigan State was nasty too.

The offense let off the pedal and many 3 and outs late in those games

And defense gave up plays

There should be an interview out in the next couple of days. Hopefully he says he does not want to take visits while committed, and still has high interest in TN

Haha if I had used blue font it would've been better, but I don't like using it :eek:lol: but yeah there's a LONG way to go here, this is just starting

Neither were close to CP as an athlete. Now I'm not a fan of Chaney as an OC. Cutcliffe is on a completely different level. IMO

Kelley Washington was every bit the athlete CP was. He also played under Randy Sanders, not David Cutcliffe.

CP had at least played football in JUCO and HS immediately before playing at UT. Washington came off the streets after four years of playing baseball and dominated at WR in the SEC. He just wasn't utilized as a runner like CP, though he was certainly capable.
