'17 NC OL TJ Moore (former USCe commit)

We have so many lower level recruits, and OL is a position of need, I think I'd find room for him. Unless the coaches know something we don't, I would let a low 3* go and take Moore. There are a lot of players we have committed that make me shake my head, and if it's between them and higher caliber players then so be it. With that being said, I understand the concept of loyalty.

Only item Butch needs to be loyal to is winning here, and to do that he needs to recruit as many big, nasty OL as he can. Passing on a kid like this is a mistake. We need 4-5 OL recruits for the next few years, and then we need a real OL coach to actually coach them. That's reality, and I'm not sure Butch fully understands this concept. He seams content with putting Tatum, who's all of 270 at the most, at OT in year 4 due to injuries. That's why you recruit guys like this who can easily play at 315-320, and who don't need to add 60 pounds to get to that weight.

RC said 35 minutes ago in the trending article that open spots may be an issue

Why would open spots be an issue? I just bet CBJ has something up his sleeve for getting another/different player over Moore. Spots should not be an issue here with Moore when you only have 25 total commits thus far.

So confusing. Are we good with just Locklear, Smith and calbert?

Those 3 should be good to go Catbone unless there ends up being an academic issue with any of them.

Loyalty is certainly true but we've already broken the loyalty chamber by allowing commits go & getting others to commit. I don't know our limit of signing players from the 2017 class but it's my understanding we could take on up to 29 recruits.

At one time people where talking about CBJ letting 10+ committed recruits go elsewhere to get where we want in the signing class rankings. I never thought we'd have to allow that many to go. I had always guessed 4-6 but no more than 7-8.

We'd need to know the recruit limit for 2017 before we really can figure out what the heck is going on if we can't take on Moore.

He would only be our 4th OL taken on scholarship. We have 1 that's a walk-on(Nick White). We really could use 2 more scholarships on OL to be honest but if it's only going to be 4 spots total left then let's use the other spots for DL & LB & possibly DB as well. Maybe split it 2,1,1(DL,LB,DB) or 1,2,1(DL,LB,DB).

Just doesn't seem right to me with what's going on. My guess we're going to have at least a couple more recruits de-commit anyhow but then where does that place us? This has gotten me more confused than ever over recruiting with my own Vols.

I can't believe after all this fight we had about Moore back when he committed to USCe & now we have our chance to get him & they're saying no room for him when we still have spots left for the 2017 roster. Something doesn't sound right to me here.

Based on prior commitment and story now it seems to me that the staff is not nearly as high on Moore as many of your are. Forget the stars. Why do you want him? A respected poster in past said he was overrated and lacked physicality at point of attack. Same poster said he was dominated against good camp competition.

His offer list is also suspect if ours isn't committable.

I don't think OL is as big as need as some are saying. Looks like we're taking 3 and losing 2 and that keeps overall scholarship numbers in a good place. The early issues we had on OL this year were based more on the early injuries that prevented us from getting any sort of continuity in Fall camp, not overall talent level

This is a good point. We do not know as much as the coaches when it comes to recruiting.

It's a stretch to say that he seems content to play guys like Tatum. They wanted to redshirt Tatum until they lost two tackles, and I can't recall if Thomas was hurt then too. We are also talking about two different positions on the line. You usually don't have to add much weight to guards.

there seems to be no rhyme or reason to our recruiting. this guy is a take all day. make room.

why take a 3 star qb away from Memphis. this isnt Cincy Butch.

QB is a fluid situation...we may end up with two transfers. Need a QB in every class. NEED a QB in THIS class.

How in the world do you go into a season, year 4, and have two/three OT that can play? That's the issue. The other issue is, I would have put Austin Sanders out there before I put a freshman OT that outweighed Alabama's LBs by 15 pounds. That's just piss poor management by Butch and his staff. Tatum doesn't need to see the field for a minimum of two years. I wouldn't have burned that kids redshirt. He looks like a TE right now, not a SEC OT.

CB and DL are a huge priority, esp DT. Glad to see this. We need 2 more DTs this cycle.

Just so you don't think that I think Butch is awesome, I squarely blame him for the Hurd situation getting out of control, the lethargic play vs Appy St, Ohio, SC and Vandy, and all the turnovers just to name a few areas he failed at this year.

But your argument isn't one that I can get behind.

He has had to play almost all OL and DL without redshirting them out of necessity. I'm sure he would have loved to put Austin Sanders out there. I doubt he had the foot speed to get into position and so he had to put someone out there that could - regardless of size. It is not like CBJ didn't like Austin, he let him run through the T as a junior. He flat out couldn't get it done.

This is the biggest predicament Butch has been in as he cannot fully develop his linemen. He needs them too soon. It's a positive that Drew, Ryan Johnson and a few others have gotten to RS in the last 2 years. But he's just playing the hard he was dealt.

If we added Butler and Sterling both, I would be all for that. We desperately need guys that project to help inside.

Just doing the math on the OL, TN lost Weisman, Sanders, and Mosley may have moved to DL for good just due to numbers (not a bad idea if not on the OL two deep). we have three committed, AND they have moved Brooks to OT - so I guess they are looking at numbers/needs.

What would truly suck is you whiff on DL altogether, and in the meantime Moore signs with someone else. But that is part of it.

With the OL getting depth, could we see Jashon move back to DT?
