As for the Alabama visit weekend I originally thought they could get close to double digit official visitors for the weekend but now a number of guys are making that weekend an unofficial visit weekend. We've noted Trey Smith, but now Cam Akers is making that an unofficial visit and will do an official down the road from what I understand. That's a nice development.
New article up on 24/7 about Akers...anyone except Tony wanna paraphrase?
The five-star senior running back from Clinton (Miss.) High School said hes scheduled to return to Tennessee on Oct. 15 for the first time in nearly four months to attend the Vols game against top-ranked Alabama, and the Vols are definitely still heavily in the mix entering the final months of his recruitment.
(I want to) just see what its like, see what Ive already seen, I guess just get another feel for it and just get back around the people there and get back on campus, I guess, said Akers[.] Theyre definitely still greatly in the mix. Coach G (running backs coach Robert Gillespie), (head) coach (Butch) Jones, the whole coaching staff, they support me all the way from Tennessee. They support me on my season and everything like that, so theyre definitely still heavily in the mix. Im just going to see how it goes.
Im looking at all the teams that are recruiting me, Akers said. Whoevers recruiting me still, thats who Im looking at. Im not going to shut anybody out because theres a lot of good situations, so Im looking at anybody recruiting me.
Just the running schemes that they do and how effectively they use their running backs, I definitely paid attention to that a lot, he said. It showed Saturday at the game. I paid attention to how they use Jalen Hurd and how they use Alvin Kamara even throwing the ball to him and stuff like that, trying to open it up so I paid attention to all of that kind of stuff.
I mean, it makes a difference wins and losses but its not that big of a deal, he said. Its something you pay attention to. You dont want to go to a team that loses all the time, so its something you just pay attention to. I definitely think its real good for the players and the coaches. I know its definitely a boost of confidence for the players. I just want to see where it goes from here and see how they finish the season, really.
It doesnt change the way I look at their situation at all, because I know what I can do regardless of whos there, Akers said, referring to Chandler. I know youve got to work regardless of where you go, so that doesnt play a factor. They just told me, really, that they still want me, stressed how much they still want me. (Gillespie) doesn't really tell me the plan for each one of us if I was to go there, I guess. But he tells me he would use both of us.
