'17 MS RB Cam Akers (FSU commit 12/27)

Eh I dont know about that. They retool on defense almost like Bama does.

Well with experience anyway. It'll be hard to replace all those guys with little drop off short term. I'm glad we get them early again next year, it may benefit us. Then again, we are replacing a lot too

As for the Alabama visit weekend I originally thought they could get close to double digit official visitors for the weekend but now a number of guys are making that weekend an unofficial visit weekend. We've noted Trey Smith, but now Cam Akers is making that an unofficial visit and will do an official down the road from what I understand. That's a nice development.

And don't forget this development happened after Akers was in attendance for the Vols win in Athens. I think he liked what he saw. Get him, Butch!

He fast! This kid reminds me of that Bryce Brown kid we landed a few years back. Hopefully his family is not as psycho though.

I know he visited UGA but I don't believe UGA is even in play for him. It's mostly between FSU, Bama, LSU, Ohio State & UT. I believe in that order too.

With the LSU thinking now in play I now have it FSU, UT, Ohio State, Bama, & Ole Miss in that order.

these posts are 3 hours apart...

Bryce was almost as psycho as his family was. Another example of the character of players Kiffin wanted to litter our program with. I am so thankful that the POS is gone!

New article up on 24/7 about Akers...anyone except Tony wanna paraphrase?

General UT comments:
The five-star senior running back from Clinton (Miss.) High School said he’s scheduled to return to Tennessee on Oct. 15 for the first time in nearly four months to attend the Vols’ game against top-ranked Alabama, and the Vols are “definitely still heavily in the mix” entering the final months of his recruitment.

“(I want to) just see what it’s like, see what I’ve already seen, I guess — just get another feel for it and just get back around the people there and get back on campus, I guess,” said Akers[.] “They’re definitely still greatly in the mix. Coach G (running backs coach Robert Gillespie), (head) coach (Butch) Jones, the whole coaching staff, they support me all the way from Tennessee. They support me on my season and everything like that, so they’re definitely still heavily in the mix. I’m just going to see how it goes.”

“I’m looking at all the teams that are recruiting me,” Akers said. “Whoever’s recruiting me still, that’s who I’m looking at. I’m not going to shut anybody out because there’s a lot of good situations, so I’m looking at anybody recruiting me.”

On the UGA game:
“Just the running schemes that they do and how effectively they use their running backs, I definitely paid attention to that a lot,” he said. “It showed Saturday at the game. I paid attention to how they use Jalen Hurd and how they use Alvin Kamara — even throwing the ball to him and stuff like that, trying to open it up — so I paid attention to all of that kind of stuff.”

On UT being 5-0:
“I mean, it makes a difference — wins and losses — but it’s not that big of a deal,” he said. “It’s something you pay attention to. You don’t want to go to a team that loses all the time, so it’s something you just pay attention to. I definitely think it’s real good for the players and the coaches. I know it’s definitely a boost of confidence for the players. I just want to see where it goes from here and see how they finish the season, really.”

On UT already having Ty Chandler on board:
“It doesn’t change the way I look at their situation at all, because I know what I can do regardless of who’s there,” Akers said, referring to Chandler. “I know you’ve got to work regardless of where you go, so that doesn’t play a factor. They just told me, really, that they still want me, stressed how much they still want me. … (Gillespie) doesn't really tell me the plan for each one of us if I was to go there, I guess. But he tells me he would use both of us.”
