'16 NC QB Austin Kendall (former UT commit)

Man I love the shady recruiting tactics we've got going on. I hope we taking to the next level in '16 and beyond...still not quite shady enough IMO.

Like the Ferguson quotes that he felt the coaches were not honest with him?

Seriously LebanonVol. Get over Riley. If you have a problem with the Dormady/JJ/Jones situation fine, but it's completely different from Ferguson/Dobbs.

Fergy was a Dooley commitment, not a Jones commitment.

A player who is unhappy transfers to a school that will take them, they don't tank their grades to the point Riley did where no one wants them. That shows a serious lack of maturity.

I try not to knock Riley as a person but talk to locals in the NC area not related to Fergy and you'll find the kid had a reputation.

If I remember correctly any assurance was given Butch's first weeks on the job in December. This is speculation and maybe he shouldn't have done it, however the more he looked at the situation he would've undoubtedly learned that Ferguson was going to have a lot of growing up to do, and he had a questionable reputation as a team guy, fair or not (which is fact, not speculation). Butch is smart enough to know that you don't build your team around a kid like that (as Dooley learned the hard way with the more talented Bray).

With Bray gone, you had Worley, Peterman, and Riley. Jones may have felt that after evaluating the kid for a while, he was not the type of kid he felt comfortable putting all his hope in, so he went out and signed Dobbs, a kid he knew he had the leadership skills on and off the field. Dobbs is the kid you want to have as the face of your program. He's the type of kid players rally around and gravitate towards.

Had Riley kept his head down and worked, he could have transferred out to another FBS program. Instead, he sabotaged his chances by acting like an immature, coddled, prima donna. Now he learns management skills at Bojangles instead of a D1 program.

No. That was nothing more than a sophisticated web of lies, orchestrated by Butch, to trick JJ into signing.

Then once JJ & QD were shackled on campus, it was always Butch's plan to sneak in a third quarterback, without their consent

I tend to never trust posters who call coaches liars without data to backup the claim. One tends to make claims based upon what they may have done in the same situation. With what CBJ has accomplished so far, I trust him the continue to build our football program to the point where we are competing for championships. If Jennings practices better than the other QBs, he will get the opportunity to play the QB position. If he doesn't practice better than the the other two freshmen, he may be tried at other positions.

As it turned out, Riley was afraid of competition and did not want to put in the work to win the starting position. We are better off without him and he is still seeking a place to play football at a high level.

You know it smokey! Recruiting ethics?!? We don't need no stinkin' ethics!!

Politicians have no ethics and they're all shady so why should our recruiters have any?
Losers that have a board with 20 names on it and sticks with those names will end up with a bottom 20 class. Of course they'll have room to sign 12-15 walk-ons every year to get their 85 total number.
Go Vols!

Jones was always #1 QB on the big board. What if we would have locked him up a week earlier and told Dormady to look around.

You guys would be crying that we lied to him about scholarship. No matter what Butch does someone will ***** and whine about it.

I think he's doing a damn fine job.

There's a difference in lying to and misleading recruits and continuing to recruit. Don't tell a guy he is the only one or one of two and then sign two more after it's too late for the first two guys to go to plan "B".

If you had the choice to sign with two teams and all things being equal except on misled or lied to you and the other didn't, which would you chose?

That goes both ways and unfortunately it's what Coach's have to do now. Kids have burned Coach's for yrs with last second swaps to a different school then instead of having time to go to plan B it's too late. No it's not fair on either side but with salaries the way they are it's a win now mentality or you get replaced by someone who can. And Coach's have a wife and kids to support and your job is in the hands of teenagers that change their minds every 5 mins. It's unfortunate it's gotten to this point but blame is equal on both sides.

Don't think he was the #1 QB on the board but based on reports from Hubbs back in the summer he was top 3-5 on the board. Dormady was never going to be asked to look around. At one time obviously Jones was ahead of Dormady on the big board as QD popped up later after Gentry and Jones were already committed. But as several guys that evaluate players said If Dormady doesn't get hurt and miss his JR yr he would have been even higher rated than he was and easily a Top 100 player. Do agree there is a huge hypocrisy by fans when it comes to this subject. Kids have screwed over Coach's and vice versa. That's why I like the idea of an early signing period. Think it will help cut down on Coach's upgrading on guys late in the process. Think it may limit offering scholly's to guys that you aren't 100% sure about but do it anyway and if they committ you can always fade them out later if higher rated guys committ. But still have an out clause if the HC or their position Coach leaves. The only part that would bother me is knowing a position coach was going to leave weeks in advance but don't announce it till after signing day. It's going to lead to kids waiting to sign and not signing as we saw this yr. Then that creates a whole different set of problems.

This is the reality, not the ideal, but the reality. Seems like I remember Simms's late switch being pretty tough to rebound from. Also feel like by not recruiting this way, it resulted in us being perennially thin at certain positions over the last decade or so.

Like the Ferguson quotes that he felt the coaches were not honest with him?

Not much the 2EEs could do about it anyway this year. They were locked in when Jones "all a sudden" wanted to be a Vol. Both WERE quoted during the process saying Butch told them he was only taking THEM at QB in 2015. Those quotes were posted many times in numerous threads.

Kendall says he was told he is "UTs guy in 2016" and that they are only taking 1 in 2016. Fort is then quoted as saying Austin is "looking around" and cites UTs recent QB recruiting as a reason why.

If you keep giving people a reason to question what you say, things will catch up to you. Obviously the other recent QB offers don't help here. Jmo

RF was just making excuses to make himself look better for friends and family. I'm pretty sure the coaches told him that he had to go to class and make above a D average. Likely that they also told him some film study was required which apparently he liked to avoid.

For the past two seasons we have started 3 different QBs. We were extremely close in '13 to lining up Pig in the wildcat because there were no options with Dobbs struggling to grip the ball due to injury. That would have technically been QB4.

Jones named us his leader several times before he committed and also mentioned UT was recruiting him the hardest. If QD or JJ didn't like that they should have explored their options before January.

I'm not comfortable with Jennings playing QB this year. Peterman was never going to play here again unless there were no other options. I would absolutely have brought in all 3 guys and I say that knowing all 3 will not finish their eligibility here playing the positions they are currently.

Kendall impresses me, i like his style of play. A passer that can run, not a runner who can pass. Fits us very well. He is a guy with his eyes down field with a little bit of elusiveness.

I know its hindsight now but we got lucky Ferguson left. I recall Ainge saying Ferguson had no clue how to read a blitz and call protections. He mentioned it's why they blitzed him in Spring game to teach a lesson to study more. He would have gotten destroyed back there while Dobbs really changed the entire projection of the offense and was able to mask defenciences of OL.
