'16 NC QB Austin Kendall (former UT commit)

It does have to do with winning. Winning starts with recruiting. Explain your rising.

Oh yeah, I definitely agree there is a correlation. Talent helps a ton with what happens on the field. That being said, I don't think we'll ever be a recruiting power. Our location, and where we're recruiting now, just don't help a ton. UT always recruited well, but you have one of the best staffs in the country, one of the best funded programs, the tradition, and now a lot of good in-state recruits. UK has none of that imo.

I don't see how you can argue we aren't rising. Stoops came in with one of the worst talent pools in the SEC. Won 2 games, which sucked, but still got a decent class. As mediocre our recruiting in the SEC, it's still the most talented classes we're getting. In 2014 most thought we'd win 4, 5 at the most. We won 5, and very competitive in two or three more. Played one of the best SEC teams well in Lexington. Our biggest issue were some flat road games, which should improve.

Ideally, you'll see UK win 6 or 7 next year. You'll see us get a top 30 class, and scare a few teams in the season. Our ceiling is probably 8-9 wins, close to what Brooks nearly did. Unless something drastic happens, we're not competeting in the East for the time being. But again, ideally we'll be a bit more of a factor and claw our way to the middle of the pack.

UK could "rise" over anybody in the east if they win games. Recruiting isnt always the biggest factor. See Mizzou.

UK could possibly beat any East team next year. Mizzou (new D coaches and lost players), USC (lack of talent and Oldie Locks is losing his touch) and UF (new coaches and lost great talent) could all fall this year. UGA might be a little bit easier as well (if coaches flop), but thats hard to determine.

Has his throwing motion been brought up yet?

Butch gonna have a hard time deciding on which QB he wants in this class.

Funny how we've flipped views. A while back I felt like he'd flip, even with the rumors I'm not confident. We'll see how it goes.

When Butch took Jones I said it could have AK looking around. The offer to Oden after AK committed IMO sealed it. Its just a matter of time now.

So you're saying now that, in Kendall's mind, Sheriron Jones is an insurmountable talent...good endorsement! And I wasn't convinced about Oden, but if Kendall is threatened at the prospect of competing with him? Gotta seal up talent that scares off other talent.

Kendall wants to be the only QB we take this cycle. With us still offering and him still looking Id say the writing is on the wall.

I think Jones, even though he won't be here in spring, will still be the backup to Dobbs this year. And in 2016, when Kendall comes in. So Kendall can redshirt and have two years of separation from Jones.

It's nothing personal against Kendall, but I'm not going to get hung up about losing anyone who doesn't want to come here because our depth chart doesn't look favorable enough for them, if that is the reason and he does flip. Just a general view of mine, because you have to beat out good players to start on a national championship team, and that's the goal.

We aren't just going to stop recruiting QBs a year from signing day. You have to establish and nurture relationships with kids in the event Kendall would decommit for ANY reason, so you're not left hung out to dry. It is very tough to hang on to kids who commit so early because most of them want to be wined and dined by others. The thrill of the pursuit is something they largely miss out on by committing early. If they put themselves back out there, they are at risk of losing their spot, and we are at risk of losing our player.

These "offers" we are throwing out, I would guess with near 100% certainty are contingent on something happening with AK, and are not committable otherwise whether the recipient knows it at the time or not. Oh sure, the coaches are probably selling them on the idea that it is, but if one called to make it official, I bet he'd be disappointed.

....or this could have been a lesson learned by Butch last year when he essentially put all his eggs in the Drew Richmond bucket and didn't recruit other OT heavily. I'm sure AK is his guy, but he's going to keep recruiting as to not have a class with zero QBs because he put all his eggs in the AK bucket this time around.

Or he has every intention of taking at least 2 and that just isn't what AK was told and committed to.

While he was locked up and bleeds orange, people forget about Jack Jones. Who is a darn good OT as well. if we had gotten Allen he would have been the 3rd best OT imo, and by most ranking services. so i don't think your example fits this time.

It remains to be seen whether Jones plays tackle. It's not a foregone conclusion.

Also Butch was extending OT offers and recruiting other tackles all along. He never just recruited Richmond. Not even close.
