'16 GA ATH Kyle Davis

Main reason I think we get him is: who really wants to go to College where they grew up, unless you grew up in Knoxville ;)

Per Rob Lewis

"The trip was really good. It was great to really get to hang out with the coaches and spend time with them instead of having a lot of other people here. I really liked the one-on-one time with the coaches. It's a lot better than when everybody is here for a visit. Any school that I might go to I really want to get to know the coaches better so that was good," Davis said of what really stood out on his time in Knoxville.

"I got to spend time with coach Jones, coach Azzani, coach Thig, really everybody. The staff here really stands out. Everyone is really energetic and I like that, it fits my personality."

"Tennessee helped themselves today. It was great. It blew me away today,"

"We probably talked more about music and just how were doing than we did football," Davis said of getting to know the Vols' future quarterback.

"I definitely look at that, it's very important. I'm just looking for stability at quarterback, that's very important. It's also important that you like that person,"

I think that there is something that has gone unmentioned as we examine Butch's recruiting classes that he's had time to put together at UT, (not counting the class he assembled immediately after being hired).

In each class, he appears to have gotten a big-time commitment from a leader, alpha-dog type player who in turn serves as a major recruiter for the rest of the class.

Class of 2014- Jalen Hurd, March 2013 commitment.
Class of 2015- Khalil MacKenzie, July 2014 commitment.
Class of 2016- Jarrett Guarantano, April 2015 commitment.

These guys have, and currently serve as big-time recruiters at popular camps and events.

Does anyone besides me believe this is part of Butch's overall recruiting strategy?

If so, that's some smooth stratgery!

Absolutely and getting a QB is great. He can help recruit pieces to fit around him, especially if he's a great player and person like JG. Hopefully Hunter Johnson will start it early for our 2017 class.

Its an essential part to running any successful organization, peer buy-in, and you need that alpha to help sell it. Yet another thing Dooley never got.

He is what he is, and has once again headed for greener pastures (in his mind), but Vic Wharton played a big part in that '14 class.

Yes, you guys are right about Wharton being seemingly a more involved recruiter than Hurd was. I wonder if he wishes he'd stuck through the Spring now before transferring out?

Back on topic, I'd love to see the Guarantano to Davis touchdown connection for about 15 touchdowns in 2018-19

I will say that Vic Wharton was the main recruiter for the 14 class.

That's the biggest myth in volnation. Vic had a very minimal impact on the 2014 class.

You think? He was everywhere.

I personally think we should build him a statue after our back-to-back 2016 and 2017 championship runs. Hell, build everyone a statue.

Recruits aren't going to gravitate to a 3 star athlete. If any players got recruits, it was Hurd, Mckenzie, and those top 100 players. The best want to play with the best. Buck Fitzgerald has stated multiple times that Vic had nothing to do with the class of 2014. You all are aren't giving the coaches enough credit, they worked their butts off. I'm sure de1conley would agree on here.

And wasn't it Kelly that made multiple visits to Knoxville to help recruit? But youre right credit the coaches.

The coaches just got a top 100 tackle from Baton Rouge to say UT is on top in Adrian Ealy. They don't need any help at all, especially in the midstate. Their recruiting is incredible. The top players just validated them as turning it around and showing that something special is happening at UT. The whole Orange Carpet event has been a bigger success than anyone could have imagined.

Watching the 2014 class being built was fun. After they locked Hurd up early, I knew Butch was a different animal.
