'15 TN DE Kyle Phillips (UT commit 1/3/15)

Phillips was interviewed on the Animal tonight. Didn't catch it all but said Barnett is really working on him to play opposite him. Said he text him all the time. Seemed like a very well spoken intellegent young man. I was impressed with the way he presented himself on the radio.

That's racist! :)

It's Butch's way. He seems to find good kids who als happen to be good players. Henderson, not withstanding, (allegedly), but for the most part these post game interviews are actually easy to understand. And speaking english, or the lack of speaking english is not racist, it's a reflection of the person and the team.

It's not just what he said or even how he said it. It was more of how he carried himself on the radio. I know I wouldn't have been able to be as composed as this kid was. Very comfortable, didn't seem nervous. It was like he was just sitting around with some buds chewing the fat.

Lol I understand your friend covering his own face. But how am I supposed to know this is Phillips?

For a website that used to have a thread specifically for tracking an airplane, I'm kinda saddened by the lack of ingenuity. You could probably match up clothing to images taken of the player, if you need to know. Must I spoon feed all of you?!

“I got to go with my brother. That was his first time going down there and everything, so he liked it a lot, and we had a pretty good time,” said Phillips[.] (I enjoyed) really just getting down there and just getting to build a better relationship with the coaches and things like that.”

“Their defense is pretty good,” he said. “Offense is coming along. They’re still a young team, so I’m looking forward to what they’re going to do later in the season and things like that."

Phillips said he still hears plenty from Tennessee’s coaches, including head coach Butch Jones, who talks with him “probably every week.” But Phillips also is being recruited by Vols freshman defensive end Derek Barnett, a former Nashville-area standout.

“He’s saying the potential — how good our D-line can be for the next couple years and things like that,” Phillips said. “But he wants me to go to the best place for me.”

Perry also is trying to convince Phillips to join him at Tennessee.

“He wants me to go wherever I want to go, but he wouldn’t mind playing with me for four years,” Phillips said. “He’s going to recruit me. But at the end, he still wants me to go wherever I want to go. We’re really interested (in playing together), but I wouldn’t say it’s a priority.”

Article also noted that Phillips is undecided at the moment on whether he wants to be an EE (similar reasons noted as TKjr. last year).

Fortenberry hinted that it was a big deal that his brother made the trip with him.

It's very difficult to get a read on Phillips, but it's still early. The 247 article noted that his mom and sister went to Ole Miss with him (for the game against Bama). But, I'll trust PFort for now.

From Rivals:

Ole Miss will entertain two official visitors this weekend, both from the state of Tennessee.

Nashville defensive end Kyle Phillips, a Rivals250 standout from Hillsboro High School, is set to visit officially this weekend. Phillips was in Oxford two weeks ago when Ole Miss beat Alabama. He spent last weekend in Knoxville checking out the Volunteers.

As for the weekend in Oxford, Phillips said, "It was crazy. It was wild. People were going nuts and its as a really good experience," Phillips said. "I love the atmosphere. The coaching staff is one of the best ones, personality-wise. I have a good relationship with coach (Maurice) Harris and coach (Chris) Kiffin. I just like it a lot."

Phillips has gotten to know the Rebels' staff more over the last few months and likes that he would have the possibility to help early in his career.

"I just feel good about them. They're just telling me I'm their main guy and things like that," Phillips said. "I like that I have the chance to play there early, also. I could go down there midyear and could play early. They have a good thing going at Ole Miss right now."

Phillips said his time in Knoxville was "nice. My brother got to go with me and it was his first time going so that was good for him to see. He saw the facilities and he talked to the coaches and things like that. He had a good time. And then, just getting around the coaching staff more and getting more comfortable with them and getting around the players and I know a lot of them now."

Phillips has the opportunity to be an early enrollee but is "still deciding" what he plans to do, per an interview with Volquest.com. "I'm not 100 percent sure what I'm going to do because I'm going to set up to where if I do enroll early I can but if I don't I can change my mind and I can finish out the rest of the year in high school."

Phillips maintains a top five of Tennessee, Ole Miss, Alabama, LSU and Ohio State, in no order.

Another Nashville product, Rivals250 cornerback Ugo Amadi, committed to Ole Miss earlier this year. He'll be making his official visit to campus this weekend. Penn State is making a strong push for Amadi, but all signs point toward his holding firm with the Rebels.

Appears to be more excited about the Rebs than us. Maybe we can change that this weekend.:loco:

Wasn't Chris Kiffin arrested for breaking into vehicles a few years ago while under the influence of drugs and alcohol?
