'15 TN DE Kyle Phillips (UT commit 1/3/15)

Kyle Phillips, DE, 6-3/259, Nashville, Tenn.

Like Richmond, Phillips has been a major priority for Jones and company and they have gotten him to Knoxville a bunch. In the last year, the Hillsboro High School standout has been to Tennessee at least 6 times including twice in June.

Phillips admits he's comfortable in Knoxville and with the Vols having stayed overnight and spent a lot of time with the current players. He's also comfortable at Ole Miss having been to Oxford 4 or 5 times.

With seven or so signees from the Nashville area a year ago, many who Phillips has worked out with over the past few summers, there's an obvious comfort level with the Vols. However, Tennessee has a dog fight on their hands for Phillips' services. Look for Phillips to be back on Rocky Top for another visit in mid-July.

I like our chances with Phillips more than Richmond. Really hope we land both though, and thin we can with a good season

Here is the link for a nice article on Phillips which was published in the Tennessean today: Hillsboro's Kyle Phillips keeps mailman busy. Notable excerpts include the following: "Phillips is known for his quickness. He's been clocked at 4.62 seconds--good for a big man. 'He just has unbelievable speed for his size,' Hillsboro coach Craig Clayton said. 'Really, he's just raw right now. Right now, he's probably a better offensive lineman, but in college he's going to be a good defensive lineman.'

. . . 'I think he's a really talented pass rusher, just naturally, athletically,' said Barton Simmons, director of scouting for 247 Sports. . . 'I think because he missed a significant portion of his junior season [due to a shoulder dislocation] and he's played both sides of the football and hasn't specialized at defensive end there's a lot of room for growth and development as a defender.'

[On the collegiate level, Phillips] could be a rush end, bulk up and be a defensive end in a 3-4 scheme, be a situational defensive tackle or play outside linebacker."

The Big Orange Train is filling up. Better get on board quick. Butch has plenty ready jump on board.

With Phillips, Clemmons, and Olenga all visiting for the 2nd Orange Carpet Day, I think some dominoes are about to start falling at DE.

I'm glad Volquest charges for this riveting information. Learned so much.

Have you ever been a member of VQ? The guys on that board are nuts. They demand info 24/7. I'm sure this wasn't meant to be breaking news.

I used to think Hubbs and crew had a great job but I realized trying to keep about 7k emotional, unrealistic, whiny Vol fanatics up to speed on the current thought process of a bunch of 17 year olds is not something I'd love. The GQ forum is a different breed.
