'15 TN DE Kyle Phillips (UT commit 1/3/15)

Good for Kyle and Barnett. Get healthy for Fall. That's when we need you.

Going from high school to the SEC and being injured during the season sucks. Get healthy and ball out!!!

Glad I was wrong about getting him. Maybe I should forecast more locks about players not coming in the future...lol

Don't worry about Barnett. Wasn't a midterm kid last year, came in later into the summer and still whipped it!

Watching the War Room feed, looks like Kyle Phillips is in an arm sling. Did I miss something?

Edit: never mind. Just read about the shoulder.

Was listening to his mom this morning on the radio, and found it interesting that she said Ugo and her son were never a package deal. She said Kyle actually called her to calm her down when she heard about it, and said it was just Ugo having fun.

Per Hubbs

Elsewhere, Kyle Phillips hasn't had the outright fanfare of either McKenzie or Shy Tuttle this week, but Phillips already has turned in his Derek Barnett-type camp moment.

Earlier this week, on a go-route pass to Alton 'Pig' Howard that Howard gathered in, Phillips was on the backside of the play. Howard is streaking into the clear and out of nowhere, Phillips chases into the frame. Phillips didn't make the tackle the way that Barnett disrupted Devrin Young a year ago, but it was an entirely different play. Young had taken a swing pass and Barnett peeled back to catch him downfield. Howard had gathered a downfield pass and thought he was into the clear until Phillips came nipping at his heels. It left multiple coaches on both sides of the ball gushing about the play --- both from the skill and the effort. And one in the program plainly stated this week, Phillips is a freak.

For you younger guys, enjoy this. The potential of a DL of Barnett, McKenzie, Tuttle, and Phillips is special. Like, maybe once in 20 years type special.

I grew up introduced to Tennessee football in the mid-late 80s, and over the following 20 years, it felt like it almost became my birthright to see us win 10 games or more. It got to a point where 10-2 was disappointing. I took for granted some truly special football and football players because of those expectations, so the last 10 years have been especially difficult in comparison. However, those rough times provided some perspective that wouldn't have been revealed otherwise.

This stuff is fun again, and that is completely on the shoulders of Butch Jones and this staff. The excitement resonating from this program is at levels experienced in my youth, and I won't be taking it for granted again. Lesson learned. No program is invincible.

Enjoy this DL, this team, and Go Vols!

Couldn't agree more. I took too much of this for granted last time around. Can't wait for a return to it now.

We've got so much talent I wish we could run that Dooley defense. You know, the one with 13 players on the field at one time.

Yes, yes, yes! I did the same thing! I never thought we would fall to the depths that we did...NEVER!! Our rise back to the top is going to be very sweet, and I will not take any of it for granted. We, as Vol fans, should hold each other accountable, so that when we have a down year here and there (8-4 type season) and everyone starts complaining, simply post late Fulmer/Kiffin/Dooley years. Enough said. That should bring us all back to reality of how far we have come.
