'15 LB FL Cecil Cherry (former Vol commit)

He's a 3 down LB imo. Kid is great at reading plays and shedding blockers. He doesnt just makes tackles... he attacks. Its bs that sites have him outside top 100 bc of height ..esp rivals bc theyve rated similar guys Mike Taylor and Denzel Perryman in top 100. jmo

It's his height and that he ran a 5 second 40 at a camp awhile back. Lame.

5? That's pretty slow.

C2 is a true LB no some 190pound lb that will play SS in college so a 4.8-5 40s heading into SR yr isnt a bad time. Like RS said its about shuttle time with front 7 guys. Kid does work in backfield and sideline 2 sideline. Gators will take him if you think he's too slow. :salute:

Never said he was too slow. Simply saying his 40 is a little sluggish. I played Lb in high school, so I understand it is more about reacting with a proper first step and taking good angles with lateral quickness. So, I'm all in on keeping him.

Mr Cherry,if you read this, please note that I never, ever, had this opinion...
I value my spleen too much...and a functioning brain...

The stopwatch didn't want to show his time. It was trying to tell the world Cherry is a 5 star.

Y'all check out the tweet thread. Cecil grew a little white boy on his shoulder!

My guy down in Florida said as far as LBs in the state of Florida, Holland is 1a and Cherry is 1b.

He said some kid named Kilby-Lane was going to be a baller too. He said Cherry reminds him of Ernie Sims coming out of HS.

How many times does a MLB run 40 yards in one play anyway? Usually it's 15-20 yards. A shuttle time is a better indicator for a LB than a 40 time.

Could it be possible that a LBer may be able to run a decent 40 time and save a touchdown on a busted play? I think there are plenty examples of why 40 times are very important and are graded regardless of position. NFL team front offices and GMs agree.

It's a little more important in the NFL though because the slow NFL players are often as fast as the fast players for any given NCAA team (especially when it comes to skill players).

A college LB can run a slow 40 time and still be an All American if other facets of his game make up for speed.

I've never seen Cecil run a 40 yard dash, but I have seen his offensive and defensive game film. I believe he's probably one of those kids who a speed coach could come in and shave .2 seconds off his 40 time just by teaching him how to run it.

He has great tape, now he needs to camp and update the other numbers. If that happens like I would expect, he will continue to move up cause his film is GREAT.

My guess is questions from the services if he can be a 3 down linebacker and if they are unsure and view him as a possible 2 down player that has to effect his ranking.

Again, I think he will be fine, but that could explain where he is at.
