I see plenty of speed in his highlight film. I see a freight train going full speed and destroying whatever is in it's path.
Quickness, instincts, defeating blocks, nastiness, reading keys, and overall football IQ matter the most at the MLB position. IMO
haha - yep i believe the saying goes you can't teach height - i remember b/c my high school basketball coach would say it to me quite often
How fast do people think the MLB really has to be? Brandon Spikes(all everything at Florida in a 4-3) ran a 5.1 40. Think about that for a minute. Lol He made plays everywhere in the short zone. Quickness, instincts, defeating blocks, nastiness, reading keys, and overall football IQ matter the most at the MLB position. IMO
.
Strength and Conditioning coaches all across the country would disagree. People make a living teaching/coaching speed everyday.
I love all the old quotes. Two of my favorites:
"If you can't get a better player, get a player better." --Eddie Robinson
"If you can't be good, be big." --Willis White
Yeah you can work your butt off and get a little faster/quicker but some people are just born with speed while others aren't. Do you think someone with a 5.1 40 time like Spikes could be taught to run a 4.5?
No but a dedicated Spikes could probably hit the 4.7-4.8 range huge difference in times. There aren't a lot of 4.5 LBs who are better than Spikes. He's a beast of player.
Guys, I never said he was slow. Poster asked if he would get his 5th star. I just said in order to get his 5th star he would have to work on his speed and coverage skills. I said that because I faintly remember one of the VQ or 247 guys saying that
Of course he is. He played for Florida. Your high regards to Florida past and current players is legendary. Let us both hope that soon you will start talking about Vols this way.
