'15 LB FL Cecil Cherry (former Vol commit)

Holy Crap.
He makes people look like the dudes on Mike Tyson Punch out getting knocked out.
The way he stands them up from a down hill run is like a video game.
His footwork is good on D, but let's his body get ahead of him on the run plays as FB.

I bet he could block a hole for Hurd to Power the rest of the way through though.
I could see him in wild cat running a sweep, and tossing to Hurd and road blocking a DE.
Jeez he could make a SDE think twice about stepping in the back field.
The way he tackles, he leads with his whole forearm into the shoulder or upper chest.
Talk about setting the end, he would set the end on the sideline for the next few plays.
No way he plays FB for UT, but dang. Its nice to have versatility.
Any chance he plays DE though?

Yeah I heard the coaches are moving AJ to DE then he'll stay on as a GA to teach Cherry how to play a position you're completely unsuited for.

Half of VN will cream their jeans when they see AJ line up at DE this spring.

The other half will groan when his backup MLB gets pancaked by a guard and springs a RB on a 50 yard run. But trust me AJ is really a DE and that's where ANY smart coach would play him. I mean after all, he's 6'2" 240 lbs: that's prototype SEC size for a DE.

Oh trust you? Ok  He struggles to shed blocks of a FB and you want him going against an OT?? He doesn't have the lateral quickness to get around them nor the strength to bull rush. He would have about the same level of success that Jacques Smith did.

EDIT: If I missed your sarcasm then I apologize!:salute:

Darth,
That AJ comment must have been hurting you.
The way you pulled it right out of your butt.
I never said anything about AJ.
I also wouldn't say that LB skills do not translate to DE.
I realize if he were to play DE his footwork and cover skills would be wasted.
However, his ability to side step a blocker and his speed would translate to DE nicely.
Even Zo can see this kid has the Haaaaands to play DE if he wanted to train there.
It would cost him a year to redshirt and build on it, but its possible.
I just wonder if anyone thinks it plausible.
No need to be a jerk, a simple response would have sufficed.
I will mark that down as a no, he will never be anything but a MLB from the peanut gallery.

I meant no offense, I was just joking around about VN's obsession with converting all of our LBs who don't run a 4.5 to DE.

Sorry if it sounded harsh. I wasn't trying to insult you personally or anything.

I see what your saying, and no hard feelings.
I know everyone likes to throw out the LB to DE.
Nothing against any of our LB, but Cherry is really the only one that lays the thump to really warrant tinking about trying there.
AJ would get man handled @ DE.
The problem with moving LB to DE is that they get trapped inside by the long arms of the OTs. Cherry just seems to get his arms there first.
The way he slips under his blockers kinda reminds me of someone.
Who was that Reggie guy, lolz.
He doesn't quite stack up to Reggie, but the way he moves is similar.
Cherry does the swim move with his arm, but he also turns his body for leverage.
Its just an interesting combo.

I'm just not sure he has the size for it unless he grows a few inches.

You are correct.
I think that is why he turns his body for leverage on some plays.
It would probably work against him in SEC as a DE.
Giving up half a body to a beast OT is normally not a good thing.
Him putting on some good weight, and his footwork could be enough to compensate.
That's why I was wondering what Volnation thought.
Not a serious thought, more of an amusement really.

Haha, isn't that why God invited the new paragraph?

Indeed, and I use those too.
I just think it helps people read the post faster.
Same principle as double spacing for type and printed material.
If y'all don't like it I could do it properly.
It just seemed appropriate to me to do it that way.
I do use proper punctuation, and grammer.
I just provide it in a format that I find easier to read.
I guess its the programmer in me.
Anyway, hope that helps.

It's cool bro. I was mostly busting your chops. :hi:

Been following his Twitter for a few weeks now, and as far as I can tell, Cecil Cherry loves nothing more than hog hunting, Coach Jones, and violently hitting people.
