'15 LB FL Cecil Cherry (former Vol commit)

I asked Cecil if he had officially decommitted from Tennessee and he said not yet. When asked if it will happen soon he answered, 'Yes.'

Texas and several other schools are getting involved and he said he didn't know when he would part ways with Tennessee, but it will be soon.

Obviously, nothing earth shattering here, but just wanted to post what we've talked about since we have said this was likely coming since the Texas visit.

Pretty sure this convo with Paul shows he is DE committed, whether he wants to continue to play both sides or not....not sure he understands that.

He was solid, coaches told Kirkland no room, Cherry flirts with Texas, Vols coaches now have room for Kirkland. Cherry made his bed, and now he can lay in it and always know that if it weren't for Tennessee Volunteers his dream school would be in a state called "Texico."

Kids are 100% or they are uncommitted, and Cherry isn't so special that you make special exceptions for him. I'll take a guy with less talent over a wavering guy any day, who knows what kind of bull he could pull on Feb 4th?

I wanted Kirkland until he signed with UM, but I'd be all over him now of I weee Butch, and I'd say we're pushing pretty hard. We were in fact his number two so I don't see any problems wrapping him up if we want.

Why can't everyone wait for the decommitment before posting all the hate? In the last day, I've read countless times that we shouldn't rush to conclusions regarding the AJ/Williams situation. Why doesn't that same logic apply here?

I agree with your general sentiment but Cherry has really been pouring it on thick with the Texas love - calling them his dream school and really licking their nuts. This doesn't take any reading between the lines.

I find it hypocritical to say vol fans are showing true colors when he is the one that flirted his way out of a spot and calling another school his dream school. Wth does he expect? Oh Cecil it's ok that you love someone else but we still love you come back? Heck no this is TN. This is the SEC. Butch Jones says it best you can either watch us or join us. He decided to hook em with Charlie Strong playing second fiddle to Sumlin and AM in their own state

I wanted to post this but wasn't sure how to word it. My brain is in freeze mode due to the polar vortex. Good post.:good!:

I think it's obvious that this staff doesn't consider you committed if you're taking visits. No matter what you tell the services, they don't consider you committed and will fill the spot with an equal or better player as soon as one becomes available. It's simple Cecil, if you wanted to be a Vol all you had to do is be truly committed. Best of luck in Tejas. Brush up on your Spanish.

dont even really care to be honest. This kid is turning into a drama queen. dude, just decommit and you can move on. Butch and the staff already have.

Because we have to get in our shots before he leaves us for a Texas board, obviously.

To be fair the kid is just acting like a kid. He has a lot less drama than several on our board. Just wish the kid the best of luck and move on.

I think we will see this play out a bit more now. Fans think that if a kids * rating is high enough he can pretty much do as he wants and his commitment does not keep him from taking visits like it does kids with fewer *'s. I think it needs to be the same for everyone. I get that a kid could take a visit and still keep his spot IF the coaches don't have a quality back up option or the kid reaffirms his commitment quickly. A kid opens the door, I don't mind the coaches allowing another recruit to walk through it.

We have a point of agreement here. Yeah, a 5* would have a bit more leverage and latitude because he is more irreplaceable, but if the coaches decided to question his loyalty and replace him, I'd be okay with it.

I think if Cecil didn't take that Texas visit the Vols wouldn't be bringing in Kirkland. But, once that happened, they have turned up the heat on Kirkland. I don't know that I'd exactly call it a mutual parting of ways.

And now I read that he has told VQ that he will decommit. You all have my blessing to bring down a world of hate.

With Kirkland saying things changed with UT and them having room for him, told me UT was not going to just drop Cherry for Kirkland. His TX trip cost him that spot. Other recruits need to be paying attention.

Dylan Jackson, Kyle Oliver, Darrell Taylor, and others should be on notice.

Kirkland is a huge need now. The coaches must feel good enough about him to let things with Cherry go this far.

Reading through CC twitter he was all vol and from what I can tell just wanted to take some visits saying he just wanted to enjoy what he had earned. Guessing the coaches didnt take to well and he got mad they decided to move on.
