Let the record show that I'll accept a Kirkland for Cherry trade. Let him go to his "dream school" lol and play for the coach that even Texas fans don't like.
I'm ok with taking either, just can't miss on both. As for TX and Strong, that is what we call real racism. Those boosters really didn't want Strong, and to be honest I'm surprised he's there. I like Strong, but he stated on ESPN like a dummy that a few months ago when they lost a game he asked his players what guys watched film during the week and he said 3-4 raised their hands. I wouldn't have mentioned that considering its a given that most coaches require film study from players. Reminded me of when Ja'wuan James said Dooley made his players sign in to prove they worked out. 19 year olds for the most part aren't going to do extra work unless required to. Drinking beer/video games vs film study/working out...
Kirkland has already taken official visits to Oklahoma and Ole Miss and has one set up for Texas in December. The Vols and Kirkland have had ongoing conversations for a few weeks now and the former Michigan commitment is listening.
We had a chance to talk to Kirkland on Thursday night and one thing is very clear, the Vols are very much in play as he told us, 'Tennessee is a place that's very high on my list.'
Kirkland told us he and his family will make the drive to Knoxville next Friday and are all looking forward to the visit. Remember, the Vols finished runner up to Michigan when he originally committed.
Also, Kirkland noted that he first approached Tennessee more than a month ago and that the Vols weren't sure they would be able to fit him in. But it's telling that Tennessee has aggressively started to pursue him and let him know they want him to be a Vol as soon as Cherry took his official visit.
Kirkland is an early enrollee and will announce his decision at the Army All-American game on Jan 3 and it's not a reach to say if the Vols hit it out of the park on the visit next weekend they could be very tough to beat in San Antonio.
Wow! Those are very telling comments from Hubbs. If we hit it out of the park? An OV on Rocky Top for a game day always hits it out of the park, but especially Senior day and in the hunt to become bowl eligible. I'm still wondering which came first...Cherry looking around and the coaches tell Kirkland that his spot may have just opened; or Kirkland calling and the coaches encouraging Cherry to take visits? Either way, I think we will sign a great Mike in 1 of these 2 for the 2015 class.
I also think Kirkland is a slight upgrade over Cherry.
I have also heard that Kirkland is very likable with a great personality and other recruits have really taken to him so that may help as well. As OG mentioned, he is tight with Newsome and Richmond.
