'15 IN LB Darrin Kirkland Jr (UT Commit 12/15/14)

The days of run stopping almost seems unwarranted anymore. The game is moving to speed and passing offenses, trickling down from the NFL. We as UT fans see first hand nickel as essentially base defense with one or two linebackers. I'm not saying dump Cherry. I love Cherry. I just think the conversation about the games evolution is an interesting one. What will defenses look like in 5-10 years?

A player like Cecil Cherry may not be as covetedin the future as he is now. Think about a defense with no linebackers on the field. Just a ton of hybrid guys running around.

Thought?

The most valuable player on our D the last three years is our MLB. We play in the SEC not the PAC 12. Stopping the run will always be necessary for success.

What % would you think Tn has of getting Kirkland out of curiosity?

If you can take both you do, but I guess that number depends on this staffs recruitment of Cherry and gauging his interests in other schools. I personally thought Cherry shut it down, but that doesn't appear to be so. Both are excellent impact players, I just think Kirkland is a little more ready to play with the speed needed to play early in the SEC.

Both will be great players regardless.

Maybe I should have asked, where does Kirkland have Tn on his board in your opinion. Basically would he jump on board if Cherry was to go. You follow recruiting real close, so I thought you might have a pretty good gauge of were we stand with him.

If I had to guess I'd say UT is probably no higher than 3rd or 4th and Kirkland's list. Could be as low as 6th or 7th. He has set up 4 OV's and UT is not one of them. IMO that would point to him ending up at Tennessee very unlikely at least at this point. We'll see who gets that last OV.

I get the feeling that Kirkland, Newsome, and Richmond all end up at Ole Miss.

remember objective rational observations that don't say "he's all vol" will not be accepted on this forum.

Objective rational observations doesn't include guessing where 2 uncommitted players are going while they are still taking visits. Especially if you factor in past recruiting cycles where kids' minds continuously change as to which school they will attend leading up to NSD.

Besides, it's a message board. So everyone is allowed to voice their opinion.

Not one of his 4 OV's
Not much of a chance here
Highly doubtful we get last OV

Well darn...

It will be sold out/electric regardless of Kentucky result. If we lose this weekend we still have a mediocre and a bad team that stands between us and a bowl game.

Let the record show that I'll accept a Kirkland for Cherry trade. Let him go to his "dream school" lol and play for the coach that even Texas fans don't like.

I'm not that emotional about it, I just want one to sign as a mlb. Really don't wanna be left high and dry there.
