Can't help but laugh. They make it sound like Jennings will literally take 6 snaps as a UT QB in practice throw the ball 3 times and be moved to defense. IF....IF...he is moved to defense IMO it will be MONTHS down the road after he gets to campus. I doubt he would even be moved till after his 1st year at UT is over, IF he is moved at all.

Doubtful.

CBJ can learn quick whether or not one, both, or none of them have a future at QB along with Dormady.

This isn't a Ferg/Dobbs situation. Both JJ and/or TG have other positions at which they can contribute. They won't waste a year of an elite athlete at a position he won't ever play.

And I like to think that CBJ is a reputable man and would not take a kid at a position unless he felt he could play said position. Jennings has said he wants to be a QB in college. He would only consider schools recruiting him as a QB. I'll roll with CBJ likes him at QB vs CBJ is telling him what he wants to hear and will move him to S a week after he gets to campus. JMO

I do understand. You apparently don't. We are in it for a top 15 player we have been recruiting all year and is at the top of our board. No way we don't take him.

So you know better than Butch who is still recruiting qbs? He is still after qbs but can't afford to take one?

Dormady never said Butch told him that. He said he BELIEVES he will be the only qb. Also if you understand recruiting, coaches mislead and lie all the time. He didn't say QD would be the only one. Even if he did he could say whatever to get the commit.

If we get Gibson and it means Dormady decommits I'm sure Butch will still be happy seeing as Gibson is his number 1 target. Dormady was signed in case we don't get any other qb commits or JJ and TG don't work out at qb. All the articles on him signing mention us being desperate for a qb so we couldn't pass him up. None say he is the only qb and we shut qb recruiting down. Not one source has said we are recruiting TG at wr. Every single one says qb.

So you know better than Butch and every single person who covers recruiting? They should have hired you as recruiting coordinator or something.
I do not know what Butch is always thinking, but I do know recruiting from a players and coaching perspective and how I explained it is how it generally works, no matter what players ranking is.

2002 - James Banks
2003 - Bo Hardegree
2004 - Erik Ainge, Brent Schaeffer, Sinclair Cannon (ATH w/ 1774 passing sabans, 20 TD/6 INT, 1634 rushing sabans, 20 TDs as a Sr)
2005 - Jonathan Crompton, Lucas Taylor
2006 - Nick Stephens
2007 - BJ Coleman, Eric Berry (ATH w/ 1000+ passing & 1500+ rushing yds as a Sr)
2008 - Casey Kelly
2009 - Marsalis Teague (ATH Rushed for 1,270 yards and 18 touchdowns while passing for 1,055 yards with 15 scores as senior)
2010 - Tyler Bray, Nash Nance, Matt Simms
2011 - Justin Worley
2012 - Nathan Peterman
2013 - Dobbs, Ferguson, Malik Foreman (ATH w/ 500+ yards & 9 tds passing, 1270 yds & 17 tds rushing), Lemond Johnson (ATH played QB as JR & SR), Jalen Reeves-Maybin (ATH played QB)

I think there can be a case made that Butch Jones may take a kid that plays QB, give them a shot to play the position, then put them where they can excel on the next level (maybe not QB).

I think CBJ makes a spot for TG if he wants to come here.

What's with all the speculation?? If this guys does this then this guy will be moved here and made a DE but if the other guy moves to WR then the other guy may play here and then Urban Meyer might call him and convince him to play CB but only if the starting TE at Michigan moves back to H-Back....blah blah blah blah

I really hope these kids don't come on this site and read this crap, I would run from some of this fan base as quickly as possible.

Coaches who don't tell recruits what they want to hear aren't coaches for very long.

I'm sure JJ will start with the QB's. But again, it won't take too long to figure out if JJ (or any of the QB/Athlete types) are going to be long term QB's.

And don't forget, these kids have hangers on that are convincing them that they're the next Cam Newton. A few fall practices is all it takes to convince these kids that just maybe, they're the next Eric Berry instead.

Cannon, Taylor, Teague, Berry, Foreman, Johnson, Maybin never played QB at UT though. Alot of "ATHs" played it in HS, but did not in college. Now Taylor did throw it a couple times on WR screen/passes, and Berry lined up in the wildcat a little bit. They were not "QBs" for Tennessee. Your Nash Nance example would be the only one considered a "3rd QB" and that is debatable. Most even on this board knew the kid was never going to see a meaningful snap in a UT football game. He was taken to get Da'Rick and would leave UT or go to walk-on status at some point. He ended up leaving.

I forgot C. Kelly never played at UT either. I think he went the baseball route.

I'm not privy to what recruits were told or not told. Neiko Creamer made it clear he wanted to play on offense, but it didn't take long for him to be moved to D. I don't ultimately care one bit about whether we get player #1 or player #2, I just think it is funny that you, Leb, stated that you didn't like the idea of TG being the QB here, and you have made that painfully obvious. Personally, I was just curious why you were arguing that UT would never take 3 QBs and thought I'd do some research. Now people saying I am in love w/ this kid (sexual references, etc.)... please... get outta my face.

Highly recruited quarterback says Tennessee is tops of his list

Click link above for video.

Knoxville, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Tennessee is back on top for one of the top players in the 2015 recruiting class. South Florida dual threat quarterback Torrance Gibson is calling the Vols his leader once again after a five day visit to Rocky Top.

"I'm just comfortable with everything," Gibson said. "The campus, the coaches, the players. I'm just comfortable with everything. And that's why Tennessee is at the top. Just sitting down with the coaches, talking with them. Getting to know them a little bit better. Getting a good feel for them, it just helped a lot. And that's why it's Tennessee on the top."

Gibson originally named the Vols his top choice, before changing things and placing the Auburn Tigers his leader following a trip to the Plains a couple of weeks ago.

Tennessee has one commitment from a quarterback in the 2015 class with Texas signal-caller Quinten Dormady committing to Butch Jones and company earlier this week. Gibson doesn't plan on committing anytime soon with his decision likely coming after he takes his five official visits.

IMO any discussion of love/hate a recruit is silly. None of us know these recruits at all. We all can have an opinion as to where they play or where we think they end up. Yes, there are a lot of "ATHs" who played QB in HS, yet never lined up a down at QB in college. Marquez North would be another one. Elliot berry would be another one. Emmanuel Moseley would be another one. Of course you can't count these guys as a "3rd QB" as they have not and will not play QB at Tennessee.

Do you know if any of them desired to play QB in college? Do you know if any of them got to work with the QBs for a period of time? Not saying "played QB" but just got a shot?

Of the ones I mentioned, I don't recall any of them actually taking practice reps at QB. Now as I said several guys have got wildcat reps, but in no way do I consider that into the QB equation. I think Cannon was always going to be a S and was taken as one. Teague was going to be a WR, then a CB, then a WR, then a CB. I could be wrong, but Nance would be the only "QB" IMO on the list.

Or the coach lies to them, tells them what they want to hear and then they transfer.

That's not necessarily a bad thing.

If they lose a QB competition, and then get mad and refuse to play another position and want to transfer - good. That frees up a 'ship that would have been wasted on a kid that would sit the bench.

The objective is to find the best players, not just to keep 'ships filled up.

I have no idea who would win a 3-way QB competition between JJ, TG, and QD, but if any of them lose it and want to transfer away - go right ahead.

Do you agree that Creamer is a good example of someone adamant about getting his shot at a position? How long did it take him to get moved? I'm making ZERO statements about JJ or TG or anyone else, I'm just saying that I think Butch will give them legitimate shots, but the competition might not take very long to see a clear winner. Maybe the loser of that competition is TG; then you get a speed freak/play maker on the field with JJ or QD. If JJ loses, then same thing; a potential NFL safety?

My argument is not that they will see playing time, or even that they should or should not be moved to different positions. My argument is that there is evidence that Butch will gladly take top athletes and use them to win...

Same people saying the same opinions back and forth in this thread.

Does anyone think we've honestly offered Gibson at WR and that it hasn't came out in an interview with him?

You take Jennings and Gibson along with Dormady and let the best guy win the job. Gibson and Jennings have tremendous upside at other positions but want a shot at QB.

I can't believe we're even debating passing on these guys.
