in our offense we don't have to have a drop back passer.Every person here would be happy with an offense and QB like nick Marshall.

Torrance Gibson is good enough at QB and athletic enough to be a dominant collegiate QB as he continues to learn. Let him come in and give him a shot at QB, period.

Some of yall think that only a pro-style prototypical will work here and that is asinine.

There is the problem. We have recruited some of the best WR's in the country and now we are looking for an athletic QB? We need a pro style QB who can read secondaries and put the ball in the hands of the playmakers. Very few mobile QB's have a long career in the SEC. Marshall and Johnny Football are exceptions. With the offensive talent we have coming in give me a true field general with a rocket arm.

They also tend to have more success in a read option offense hoping to pound the rock.

I agree there are times when a mobile/running QB can be an asset. When I look at our RBs, I'd like to see them get about 35-40 carries a game spread out between them. When I look at our WR's, I'd like to see about 30 passes a game going their way. Those new TE's, I'd like to see 8-10 balls a game find them running open over the middle. If the QB wants to keep it 4 times a game, alright. Just pick up a 1st down on 3rd and 2. Do I think we need a 1000 yard a season rushing QB who runs a 4.5 40 to win with this team? Nope.

So a pro style QB can hand the ball off better than a DT guy?

We're not recruiting athletes at QB to be cute and fun. We're recruiting athletes at QB because we need athletes at QB. Straw that stirs the offense's drink and allows the playmakers to eat. Terrifying for defenses when we're playing at the pace Butch wants us to.

Sometimes. DT guy does like to keep it a bit more often obviously.

The pro style guy IMO is more likely to come in ready to use the WR/TE weapons around him more than a DT guy. You will note it's been widely discussed that both Jennings and Gibson have some accuracy concerns.

If it was a player that I wasn't hopeful of getting I would have no problem ignoring this thread, I do it all the time with some others.. Not sure why the TG haters like to hang out in here so much though.

I tend to think it's because it makes for quality discussion.

The pro style guys hand off because they have to.. If the DT guy isn't having luck running, he can hand it off to the same RBs that the pro style guys would. It's about having options.. Like how everyone was going nuts when worley wouldn't keep any of those reads because his side of the field was wide open.. Options.

Long as they can find the corner and the checkerboards my man.

In seriousness, you said yourself they wouldn't be playing for a few years. Plenty of time to learn how to sling the rock. For both of them.

That is kind of my point. Why take guys your going to have to teach to throw the football? Unless the staff is pretty sure they will strikeout on top caliber PASSING QBs again in 2016, IMO the 2015 guys will be quickly recruited over anyway IMO.

Kind of like the Dylan Jackson to OT talk. If I were him, I would fight that till my last heartbeat. Sign a kid with plans to add 50LBS to him then take another year so he can get up to speed at the position. Meanwhile UT is signing 2-3 top caliber kids at the position a year while he is getting ready to compete. He's recruited over before he even gets a chance. Just makes no sense to me.

Why is it when someone makes an astute observation they are labeled a hater? Just because I do not agree with your opinion?

If we had an accurate passer this last year we probably would have gone to a bowl game. They did not trust Dobbs to throw the long ball down field and for good reason.

We will have an even better receiving corp the next couple of years and we need someone who can make the best of it, not just another athlete. Gibson's value as a passer is now being questioned and his value as an athlete is on the rise. We have plenty of athletes in both of Butch's classes. We need a QB. All I am saying is if you are going to bring in talent like Wolf, North, Malone, and Pearson put a smart QB on the field with a rocket arm to take advantage of your weapons.

And my next question is how many times did our QB's run last year in Butch's offense? Very few attempts is the answer.

Fair chance that Gibson is a rare athlete, and is a take from that standpoint regardless if position. Butch has brought in athletes. Doesn't mean they are this type of athlete.

Because they have skills you cannot teach.

We have a lot of WR/RB types on the roster with the same skills. They can catch the ball and or run with it. They can make people miss. Given the chance to take some snaps as a QB, a lot of them may look like athletes playing QB. Should the staff teach them how to sling the rock? :)

I realize this is tongue in cheek but... Did those guys have success throwing the rock as high school QBs?

This thread has shifted from "he's a great athlete who needs some polish at QB" to now he apparently doesn't know how to even throw a football...
