Why not? We probably don't have to sign a large number of dline, rb's, wr's, or lbs this season, so we can sign 2 qbs. Especially with both being labeled athletes. Let the loser move to safety or wr. Win win.

Ok, if the class does end up at 20. Humor me for a moment.

At 20 I don't even have us taking a 2nd RB.

WR- Do you pass on Williams or Woods/whoever would take Woods spot in the slot?

LBs- Do you tell Cherry, Sapp, or Dews no? Wait, what if DeBerry tries to commit? OHH Crap!

Keep in mind 20 leaves spots for (2) DTs. Do you tell Jones or Settle no?

Maybe you only take (2) DEs? Tell Jackson, Butcher to walk or tell Phillips no room at the inn?

It is what it is....

It's simple math. We only have maybe 20-25 spots. Half will probably go to lineman as we still really need them.
We can't risk on too many projects yet. Maybe next year.

Qb-2
RB-2
Wr-3
Ol-4

DL-5
Lb-2
Db-4
St-1

That works. We will take two qbs.

LV, why do you think we are recruiting qb so hard if there isn't a 100% chance we are taking another qb?

It seems clear to me the staff coaches every position very hard throughout the entire recruiting year. Much as they should as a lot can change between now and NSD.

Whoever said we were taking twenty?

Even if 20 is the number, 2 qbs is only 10% of the class. Seems reasonable for a school that hasn't had an all conference qb emerge.

CBJ said 18-22. I am being realistic and going in the middle of his prediction. 20. Pretty simple really. To get to even 20, about 6 more kids need to leave to program. Your # is 23 I see. Maybe it plays out that way. If so, 9 kids will be walking. IMO that is a pretty big number.

Does not what?

Maybe CBJ does not see TG as worth a spot? That is what I was saying. He's not a commitment so anyone talking like the staff would take him w/out a doubt is speculating. Harrell and Johnson were sure takes as well, or so I was told by those in the know.:dunno:

If he's a backup plan to a bunch of other things hinging on the numbers and exit of certain players, then okay. No way to know that. Could be the case. But it's tough to expect (most) fans to just back down from excitement over a well-rated, athletic guy that we're battling elite schools and staffs for.

I said before the only way I saw TG ending up a Vol was IF osu passed on him, and closer to NSD a spot was available for the "best available" on UTs board. Say the staff sells out to get McKenzie and Settle. McKenzie commits and Settle decides to go elsewhere the night before NSD. The staff could fill the 2nd DT spot with a last minute guy OR if there was not a reasonable option, maybe they take Gibson as "best available". IMO, a lot would have to go wrong before I'd take 2 major project QBs in 1 class and risk hurting my chances in 2016 of getting a top guy.

Ok. If they are "going another direction" it's because they know he's going elsewhere.

Or they just like someone else better? Or they are not wanting to wait him out? Or they did not care for his recent "issues"? I be surprised if osu or au was scared of recruiting and taking their chances VS UT at this point. I may be a Vol fan but I try to be realistic in thinking like one.

Rather take just 1 project QB, still have no assurance that we can score a top guy, and have no reliable qb depth?

See what you mean though.

QB(2) - Jennings and Gibson
RB (1)- Reid
WR (2) - Williams and Woods/other
TE (0)
OL (4) - Richmond, Stewart, Jones, Jackson
DT (3) - McKenzie, Settle, Jones/Tuttle/other
DE (3) - Butcher, Phillips, Sweat
LB (2) - Cherry and DeBerry
DB (3) - Griffin, Ordway, Brazil/Martin
LS (1) - Lovingood

That's 21 with 2 QBs LV, and I think everyone would be happy with that.

THIS!!! If CBJ is sold on Jennings actually being our quarterback then he wouldn't be wasting a spot on Gibson. Sign them both. If neither make a QB, we have 2 tremendous athletes and we can sign a top QB next year.

Butch has been telling Gibson since 2013 that he's the #1 QB on our board and that he didn't take a QB because he's waiting for TG. But yeah, Butch may not take Gibson's commitment right now

Where do you come up with this nonsense? Seriously. You're not a dumb poster by any means but you sure know how to make up some BS in between your ears imo.

2015

Ferguson
Dobbs
Peterman
Jennings
Smith
Ashford
Page
Williams(maybe)

There may be a couple other WO's I'm forgetting. As I said earlier, if you get to your #3 or #4 during a season, it's usually a lost cause anyway. Play the kids ya got and look forward to next year. If one decides to transfer, maybe the staff then takes another QB. Right now, I would not.

I could also see us taking no TEs and maybe one less DB to get down to 21.

But I can't us only signing 20.
